- He lies in bed and dreams
- Of sleeping and of the night
- Which comes before the sun arises
- So restless and in spite.
- He thinks not of himself; the one whom Iād expect for a boy to care for most. He is the cherished lad, he is the angered child, he is the one upon whom God has smiled and graced with a nail hard life to see the sun rise if he can, to one day understand that he is good and not a fool. He is the boy who knows his place under circumstances wretched yet finds himself humbled and free from that pride that so cruelly destroys the soul and murders the hearts of angels.
- Normal days we would ask for God to smile upon his child; to let him wake and look to the heaven, but I ask God to let him smile upon himself.
- Please let him wander not alone. Let him find a place to call home and return to again and again that he may not feel fear and that he may see through the clouds that assault him like a wave upon all sides, like a mariner who has killed the fabled bird. Please let my prayers for him be heard. Please let him be at peace. Please let him rise above the world that I may find myself at ease. Him who sleeps in the day time, who stirs in the darkness, who sings to the world in a voice that is care, that is love, that is sweeter than all the flowers in the gardens of kings!
