No one wants that to happen to ETQW. It's better to have it functional than not at all. And no, converting demo version to full version via conventional means is not possible.

It is more interesting to me why they did not submit the project or moved it, to people who wanted to spit at EA.   28. BF2/2142 is digitally unavailable, master server is dead, game servers are dead. Revival project could have just revive master server and game server, perhaps they could also get away with distributing game itself. But they got greedy, publicly let people to bypass the CD Key which caught the attention of EA, thus the cease and desist letter was issued.

  30. ETQW is digitally unavailable, master server is alive, game servers are alive (unranked), update server is alive; as you see the game is technically alive. We do let people to download the game easily but people still require license code to play the game. This is the border that we technically and also willing do not pass. SDK explicitly doesn't let you to expand "demo version" to another content, it's locked. And, by directing people to legally purchase the game, we remain under the radar of the publishers.

  32. There is no point of endangering the current functional status of ETQW. Existing community enjoys the game as it is and if the game somehow killed by the publisher by the potential piracy, that would be a disaster.
  33. Why don't you just get the game to join us? As you're in Ukraine, I presume you could order Russian or Polish versions from those countries for a cheap price. Don't worry about the language, we can let you play in any supported localization.

  50. Bethesda does not support ETQW servers, ranked servers were shut down years ago. All existing servers (unranked) are set by third parties like TAW, BBA, etc. What is important is the master server and authentication server which are still alive. Let me tell you, as ZeniMax acquired id Software and all id's IP were transferred to ZeniMax, it is unclear who maintains ETQW's authenticatin + master server. Because, authentication server is still using services of Demonware which is a subsidiary of Activision. So, it is entirely possible that it is Activision who runs authentication and/or masterserver willingly or unconsciously. That is why we should not take the attention of big publishers as they could just "fix" the legal complications by simply shutting down the authentication and/or master server.

  52. The game isn't dead. Pretty much every evening, there's a full server for EU and a populated server for NA. Not to mention biweekly TAW events for EU and NA.

  54. I am aware of those license codes; ETQW license codes can be used by only 1 user at a time, so if another user happens to use the license code that you have, you simply cannot login. And I guarantee you that those keys are always used. :smiley:

  59. Wrong about license codes, i do some experiments before, and at the same time on server can be even, a few players with same cd key, u can be kicked only if players with same CD keys was in server browser.

  61. No one even thought that GameSpy servers will be closed, but time has been come and they stopped working. Same will happen with ETQW master server. I can be wrong but even if master server will die we will be able use direct connect, correct me if I'm wrong.

  63. It is risky use a public license code at peak times, there's always danger of being kicked. Those keys are being extensively used by East European and Latin players, so I don't recommend.

  65. Yes and no. Same would happen ETQW but it's technically different than GameSpy. ETQW depends on 2 type of server to play online; authentication server AND master server. Authentication server checks you license code/online account so you can get in online server listing, master server lists online servers. So, if authentication server is dead, you cannot even play the game online. Direct connection via connect IP:Port still checks your online account. So, no go. If only master server is dead, then direct connect should work.

  96. Look, I understand you, I understand your concerns. But ETQW isn't an EA game, you might be burned by EA, Ubisoft etc due to their tendency to shut down games but ETQW won't die that way soon. The game is being played by 50+ people, they enjoy it, that's fine. If you want more people to play it, they tell them to get the license code for 5 bucks for earth's sake.

  98. Not to mention Revival Project replaced GameSpy master server which isn't unheard of. There are literally 100s of games that had their GameSpy master server requirement replaced by simple config edit: ie Rune. ETQW isn't like that. Unlike majority of GameSpy games, authentication server is hardcoded.

  100. What you're suggesting is technically not possible. If you're willing to decrypt the entire game as well as the mod, good luck. Cause we couldn't. Game assets aren't cyripted, game engine is.

  109. Maybe possible make a launcher with implemented VPN client what we can use for connecting ppl. For allow players play for free as lan game, and that will allow us bypass master server and login server. Yea thats will affect on ping, but we can minimize this problem by bandwidth of the server on which this VPN will be located.

  116. Honestly, I do not know how much people such application can attract. Cause the existing community will keep playing their online game while new users are locked to LAN. Existing users will never accept compromise their connection.

  118. Honestly, they best way to increase the number of players is to mass advertise it. I am doing my best to advertise it in English sites but there are many localized sites that I cannot reach. East Europe has a massive potential for such games but majority of people doesn't speak English. Half of EU battalion of my clan is East Europeans and given the fact those "public" license codes are mostly posted in Russian sites, I can safely say that regions offers a lot. I would love to have Russian, Ukrainian and Polish adverts about the game and its community. If the games current population is doubled into 100+, than it would be a great success. And getting license code via physical copies isn't that hard. A guy that I met on Discord got his copy for 3 bucks 2 weeks ago. Come on, 3 bucks.

BTW, the game had its lowest player number couple years ago, now the community can sustain a full server in the evening in EU as well as biweekly TAW event thanks to persistent advertisements of people like me. So, yes, adverts do work. We just need advertise more.

  146. So you're basically interested in playing the game with a currently not existed, an anticipated "new" community. There are tons or free or f2p games that cannot sustain a healthy playerbase. Just like you say, "it's not about money." Yes, ETQW is great and should have a bigger playerbase. But making it F2P (as it ever happens) doesn't magically open the floodgates for 1000s of players. Yes, it would quadruple its concurrent player number but in mere weeks, it'll go down to 90+ at best. Players usually don't stick with something they don'T pay. And as weird as it sounds, securing a license code assures players to stick with the game. I have been communicating with players for a long time; people I offered those public license codes played the game once or twice and never came back again. Player who purchased the game played it many sessions until get used to it and some of them are regulars now.

Yea that's was also happen with battlefield revive project, its hyped at beginning and then community going down, if take as example 2142, even at best days that game wasn't so popular, but after revive its got new players and they stay and continue play in that game. Until retarded EA forced enthusiasts close their project.
