- [18:43] Tezkat Moar channels!
- [18:44] Railock okay. glitch will join when he's home. Ghost is out. Ganti is unkown. but looks like we still have 4
- [18:46] Tezkat Ganti was never super into it...
- [18:46] Railock yeah
- [18:46] RAM Ghost is out?
- [18:46] RAM He seemed super into it, though...
- [18:47] Tezkat He was apparently getting pissed off about the worldbuilding direction and decided the timekeeping kerfluffle was the last straw...
- [18:47] Tezkat Or something.
- [18:48] RAM That's silly...
- [18:50] RAM I knew about him getting pissed about the timekeeping thing, which was really silly.
- [18:50] RAM But I didn't notice him having any problems with anything else...
- [18:51] Railock I confirmed with him today that he's out
- [18:51] Railock since he's out, vae may join. talking with him
- [18:51] -->| VAE_work (~VAE@158.195.19.39) has joined #ShatteredRing
- [18:52] Railock hey vae
- [18:52] VAE_work hey
- [18:52] Tezkat We're still looking at a Saturday PM timeslot?
- [18:52] Railock yeah. saturday. time discussed when were closer
- [18:53] RAM sits on VAE.
- [18:54] -->| Railphone (~Railock@ma25636d0.tmodns.net) has joined #ShatteredRing
- [18:55] Railock So Vae. currently, we have Ram as a dhampire alchemist/Shotgunner. Tezkat as a Warpkitty Striker character, Meany as a...Dwarf possibly Monk. Glitch as a Monk
- [18:55] Railock Ganti is iffy on joining.
- [18:55] Railock do you have anything you were interested in playing?
- [18:56] Railock and with that, disconnecting here gonna be on my phone while I grab food be back when I can
- [18:56] |<-- Railock has left llearch.net (Remote host closed the connection)
- [18:56] VAE_work k
- [18:56] Tezkat Did you wanna be a dorf?
- [18:57] VAE_work well, what does the setting look like?
- [18:57] Railphone Miron as a real dwarf!
- [18:57] VAE_work i remember some of the initial talks
- [18:57] VAE_work ehh
- [18:57] Tezkat Well...
- [18:57] VAE_work if I'm gonna do Miron it'll be in Ink's game
- [18:57] Railphone Heh
- [18:58] Tezkat The "world" is a kinda asteroid belt held in place by ley lines around a pair of suns... one emits light, the other emits darkness. Their orbiting each other is responsible for the day/night cycles as one eclipses the other.
- [18:58] RAM You can travel between islands, if you have an airship.
- [18:59] RAM The lower you go, the darker it gets.
- [18:59] Railphone You start on a dwarf dominated island
- [18:59] RAM Since you're further from the suns.
- [18:59] Railphone Kinda dark/low
- [18:59] VAE_work auto-iffy on emitting darkness
- [18:59] Tezkat Well... not necessarily darker, come to think of it.
- [18:59] RAM Also poor.
- [18:59] Tezkat It would have less pure light... but also less pure darkness.
- [18:59] Meany I live, with burritos.
- [18:59] VAE_work it's like having two arses, one farting and the other emitting negative stench
- [18:59] RAM The suns are basically gods.
- [19:00] Tezkat So the deeper you go, the less of everything you get, but the more stable the climate perhaps?
- [19:00] Meany I'm probably not going monk.
- [19:00] Tezkat We have two other greater gods established...
- [19:00] RAM Darkness is still the absence of light, Tezkat.
- [19:00] Meany I'm probably going Cleric arguing the dangers of magic left uncontrolled.
- [19:01] VAE_work yeah, RAM got the issue right
- [19:01] RAM You're getting further from the sun that emits darkness, yes. But that doesn't remove the darkness caused by getting further from the regular sun.
- [19:02] Tezkat True. So "darker" in that sense. The upper realms are like the desert... super hot and bright in the day, super cold and dark at night.
- [19:02] Meany The closer you come to the light, the longer your shadow becomes.
- [19:02] Tezkat Basically, one sun emits positive energy, which visibly manifests as light. The other emits negative energy, which visibly manifests as darkness.
- [19:03] VAE_work i.e. some sort of destructive interference between the two
- [19:03] Tezkat Last round of worldbuilding, we were discussing what kinda non-undead lifeforms would thrive on negative energy.
- [19:03] Tezkat Yeah. That gives us twilight. Heh.
- [19:03] VAE_work hopes not
- [19:04] VAE_work fends off sparkly vampires
- [19:04] RAM Well...
- [19:04] RAM My character technically thrives on negative energy.
- [19:04] Tezkat And you can get necrotic "sunburns" from being out in the dark sun unprotected, just like too much of the light sun is potentially bad for you.
- [19:05] RAM So, Dhampirs.
- [19:05] RAM Their energy polarity is flipped.
- [19:05] RAM So healed by negative energy, harmed by positive energy.
- [19:05] Railphone But they don't sparkle
- [19:06] Tezkat It's not that kinda twilight! Heh.
- [19:06] Railphone Things only sparkle when glitterdust is cast!
- [19:06] Meany Is Sataareth in the twilight?
- [19:06] Meany Dawn on one side, dusk on another?
- [19:06] Tezkat It doesn't work that way... the top is always facing the suns.
- [19:07] Railphone Suns are close
- [19:07] Tezkat But the deeper you go (away from the suns), the thicker the atmosphere and cloud/particulate cover... so the light/dark gets filtered/weakened but it also maintains more stable temperatures.
- [19:07] Meany But we have structures on the sides and bottom of the island.
- [19:07] Tezkat That's just efficient use of space.
- [19:08] Railphone And for stuff like vampires that can fly
- [19:08] Tezkat Oh yeah... the world "started" 500 years ago.
- [19:09] Tezkat Everyone's memories from the time before that were wiped.
- [19:09] Tezkat By divine power or whatever.
- [19:09] Railphone The shattering
- [19:09] Tezkat Well... how do folks know the world wasn't always like that?
- [19:09] Tezkat I mean... they don't remember...
- [19:10] Railphone True
- [19:10] VAE_work well, yeah
- [19:10] VAE_work most haven't even lived for that long
- [19:10] Tezkat Well... dorfs/elves... they've got some senile old folks who've been around since the start.
- [19:10] RAM Some elves prolly have.
- [19:10] Railphone The island you start on is dwarf controlled. ATM, only other race is warpkitties that live in top
- [19:11] RAM Dhampirs.
- [19:11] Railphone May change if needed
- [19:11] Railphone Dhampire are warpkitty base not human
- [19:11] RAM I mean Dhampirs can live long enough to remember pre-shattering.
- [19:11] Tezkat Well, they could be both. The vampires control a good chunk of the underground network.
- [19:12] Railphone Warpkitty and dwarf base then.
- [19:12] Railphone If your interested in another race say so
- [19:12] Railphone But nothing underdark
- [19:12] Tezkat And the dorfs are dealing with a persistant undead problem that threatens to undermine their culture/belief system.
- [19:13] Tezkat Traditionalists believe that their dead require a proper burial in family crypts with full honours and stuff...
- [19:13] Tezkat But that's just been providing raw mats for the undead.
- [19:13] Tezkat Reformists want to cremate them instead. Among other things...
- [19:14] Tezkat Meany's the one leading the reformist movement, I think.
- [19:14] Railphone Wait. What side was ghost supposed to be?
- [19:14] Tezkat He was the traditionalists...
- [19:14] Meany Traditionalists.
- [19:14] Tezkat We lost our old guard. O.o;;;
- [19:15] Railphone Does vae want to be a traditional dwarf lead that clan?
- [19:15] Tezkat Glitch was just gonna do "whatever".
- [19:15] Railphone Hey
- [19:15] Railphone Heh*
- [19:16] -->| Railock (~Railock@ma25636d0.tmodns.net) has joined #ShatteredRing
- [19:16] Railock okay back
- [19:17] Tezkat The vampires are actually a special type... vetala.
- [19:17] Tezkat Instead of drinking blood, they drink memories.
- [19:17] Tezkat And they possess corpses and stuff.
- [19:17] Tezkat Vulnerable to holy sites. Not so much to sunlight.
- [19:19] Tezkat Unless you decide to inject a new race into the mix, the bulk of the island is dwarf controlled.
- [19:19] Tezkat The "wild" portions of the island are controlled by a race of shapeshifting feline fey.
- [19:19] VAE_work fuck a duck in a sack, my throat is legit starting up.
- [19:19] Railock throat starting up? getting sick?
- [19:20] VAE_work yeah
- [19:20] VAE_work feels like it
- [19:20] Railock that sucks
- [19:20] VAE_work been having the cruds all evening and hey, it explains why I was so tired this week
- [19:20] Tezkat Chicken soup! Vitamin C!
- [19:20] Tezkat Bedrests!
- [19:21] VAE_work i'll probably take tea with rum once i'm done with some things tomorrow
- [19:22] Tezkat The cats live in small packs. Civilization is more of a hobby than a full time thing for them. They don't build shelters, since they sleep up trees or in extradimensional hideyholes. But they do construct impressive living and megalithic temples around ley line nexi.
- [19:22] Tezkat For parties.
- [19:22] VAE_work heh
- [19:22] VAE_work reminds me of the cat people in Albion a little
- [19:22] VAE_work did anyoen but me play it here?
- [19:22] VAE_work an old DOS RPG
- [19:22] VAE_work basically Avatar, done earlier and better
- [19:23] VAE_work because the plot made actual sense
- [19:23] Tezkat And they're shapeshifters. So they like to visit the dwarves in disguise for fun and profit.
- [19:24] Railock so vae. any musing?
- [19:25] Railock also meany. you said cleric. sphere caster or regular?
- [19:25] Tezkat The island itself is pretty isolated...
- [19:25] Tezkat The upper realms are more sophisticated and technologically advanced.
- [19:25] Tezkat But down here we don't have much of use to trade with the rich folks and lack the tech to make anything more than a small skyboat--not large/powerful enough to survive a trip between islands.
- [19:25] Meany The actual fuck is a sphere caster
- [19:26] Tezkat So... if you want to inject a new race into the mix, now's your chance.
- [19:26] Railock using spheres of power for casting over normal spells
- [19:27] Tezkat Spheres of Power magic system. A lot more frontloading of the power curve at the cost of some flexibility.
- [19:27] Tezkat You learn spheres and talents instead of spells. And you rarely get more than one per level.
- [19:27] Railock but you also dont really ever really run out of magic
- [19:27] Railock even a lvl 1 cleric could cure all day long
- [19:27] Tezkat So... if you want to learn fireball... that's Destruction sphere + the fire element talent + the big boom blastshape.
- [19:28] Tezkat Well... that's temporary hp... it only lasts an hour.
- [19:28] Tezkat If they want to cure real damage, they gotta spend spell points.
- [19:28] Tezkat And those are quite limited.
- [19:29] Tezkat One of the main design conceits is that you can get away without spending spell points for most effects... but you have to spend actions to concentrate instead to maintain it.
- [19:29] Meany Do spheres clerics lose the power to channel?
- [19:29] Railock nope
- [19:29] Tezkat No.
- [19:30] Railock nope tez they get unlimited cure
- [19:30] Railock not temp
- [19:30] Railock looking at it right now. base cure effect. 1d8 cure, positive energy and harms undead
- [19:30] Tezkat Costs a spell point.
- [19:30] Tezkat Invigorate is their only free power.
- [19:31] Tezkat There's an archetype conversion for standard clerics over to the new system that keeps most of the old class abilities.
- [19:31] Tezkat And there are a couple of native sphere caster classes that get channel.
- [19:32] Meany I think I'll stick with the old system.
- [19:33] Railock Ah. it gibves you a fuckton of free life talents to replace spontaneous
- [19:33] Railock could have mass healing as soon as lvl 1 if you wanted
- [19:33] Tezkat SOP is amazing for specialists. You can get a lot of powers many many levels before traditional spellcasters... but you become a bit of a one trick pony.
- [19:34] Tezkat Unlimited teleport at level 1. Greater invisiblity at level 1. Mass healing at level 1...
- [19:34] Railock also allows non tradioinal spells. like healing wizards. and fireballing clerics
- [19:34] Tezkat Assuming you don't limit spheres to certain traditions and whatnot.
- [19:35] Tezkat Which surprisingly is something that wasn't even mentioned as an optional rule.
- [19:36] Railock more blasty fun for all!
- [19:37] Tezkat SOP casters are like... a halfway point between 3.5 warlocks and regular casters.
- [19:38] Railock any questions about world from anyone?
- [19:38] Tezkat Also a lot like pathfinder wordcasters.
- [19:38] Tezkat Mix and match powers to make custom spell effectts.
- [19:41] VAE_work question, what do RP work like?
- [19:41] VAE_work doesn't the fuck understand that system
- [19:42] Tezkat Can you please rephrase the question?
- [19:42] Railock rp? like race rp?
- [19:42] VAE_work yeah
- [19:43] Railock ah. basically pathfinder put out a book for making/editing races and broke most stuff up into costing rp. so races between certain ranges are considered similar powered
- [19:43] Tezkat Oh. That's just something from the Advanced Race Guide to build/customize playable races.
- [19:43] Railock humans are at 10 rp.
- [19:43] Railock I generally allow most 19 or less rp races
- [19:43] VAE_work yeah, but like, how does it translate to LA
- [19:43] Tezkat LA doesn't exist in path.
- [19:43] RAM ^
- [19:44] Tezkat Basically, what it does is let you create whatever the fuck you want. And if the party average RP is high enough, it recommends boosting encounter CR.
- [19:44] Railock pretty much 19 or less has no adjustment.
- [19:44] Railock 20+ theres some adjustment you can do in rthe race book but I...usullly dont allow or if I do it's for rp reasons and ignore it
- [19:45] Tezkat 2 RP is roughly equal to a feat's worth of abilities/buffs.
- [19:45] Tezkat +2 bonus to something. Darkvision. A spell like ability you can use a couple of times per day. Etc.
- [19:46] VAE_work also, starting level?
- [19:46] Tezkat Execptionally powerful abilities, like flight or being able to climb ceilings, cost extra.
- [19:46] Tezkat 1
- [19:46] Railock probably 2
- [19:46] Tezkat orly?
- [19:46] Railock yeah. little bit of experiance under your belt. and have you all know each other
- [19:47] Tezkat It's a tiny island filled with races that live for centuries... Everyone knows everyone...
- [19:48] VAE_work how tiny? Like, population ~5000 ?
- [19:48] Tezkat More like 50k.
- [19:48] VAE_work right
- [19:48] Tezkat Not counting the undead I guess.
- [19:48] Railock 50k vae's!
- [19:49] Tezkat Mostly dorfs... perhaps a couple thousand kitties. Random magical beasts. Undead lurking in the depths.
- [19:51] Tezkat What we did for the dorf worldbuilding is give each player a clan to create.
- [19:52] Tezkat Whatever it is that you decide to make, you get to define how your people fit into the island culture.
- [19:54] Tezkat Active chats going on in like 4 different channels... >.>;;;
- [19:54] VAE_work more for me x3
- [19:54] Railock hah
- [19:54] Tezkat Oh, I just meant here... Heh.
- [19:55] Railock so vae interested in a clan of vae dwarfs, or a different race?
- [19:55] VAE_work thinking
- [19:56] VAE_work you guys know i'm not great at coming up with concepts quickly
- [19:56] VAE_work exception was Saph's dragon filler faire i guess
- [19:56] VAE_work because "one remotely intelligent white dragon" was an automatic winner
- [19:57] Railock heh
- [19:57] Railock any worldbuilding questions then vae?
- [19:59] Tezkat is distracted building a SOP-native setting that steals stuff from here. Heh...
- [19:59] Meany The only gripe about the setting so far is the lack of playable drow. But that's just because I loves me some drow.
- [19:59] Tezkat Why are you making dorfs instead of drow then?
- [20:00] Tezkat You could have made anything you wanted!
- [20:00] Meany Because dwarves are a close second to drow.
- [20:00] Tezkat Also, the founding dorf left the game...
- [20:00] Railock drow and underdark races was no
- [20:00] RAM And Drow are underdark, which are not allowed yet.
- [20:00] VAE_work not so much not allowed as full of undead and shit
- [20:00] Tezkat Just make them dark elves!
- [20:00] Meany Dusk elves was an option.
- [20:01] Tezkat Take elves. Paint them black. Add stuff for flavour!
- [20:01] Meany But by the time I found dusk elves the dwarf thing had spun on.
- [20:01] Meany And it was too late. ^^;
- [20:01] Tezkat I mean half the group is doing custom races...
- [20:02] Railock vae. If you have a real good rp reason. and we can work with the party as to how/why your with them...I MIGHT consider a proposal
- [20:03] Meany I wonder if, then, each of the five houses should be a different race? Joined for mutual survival?
- [20:03] Meany Elves, humans, cats, dwarfs, undead?
- [20:03] Tezkat That seems way too cooperative.
- [20:04] Railock was actually thinking itd be fun with no humans around
- [20:04] Tezkat There's also the quesiton... if the dorf foundation is crumbling... will glitch still wanna do dorfs?
- [20:04] Meany We need his input.
- [20:04] Tezkat Death to all hyoomans!
- [20:04] Tezkat Personally... gotta say... I'd kinda prefer if my alternate form didn't have to be a dwarf.
- [20:05] Meany For cooperative, it doesn't have to be. It can be teeth clenched. :V
- [20:05] VAE_work yeah
- [20:05] VAE_work see Yoriver
- [20:05] VAE_work coalition of the willing , if I ever seen one
- [20:05] Meany That could be the major reason for the sudden tone shift when the ruling house changes.
- [20:07] Railock I doubt the kitties would be interested in a house/government so not gonna be a house
- [20:07] Railock but we can add anther humanoid race tez
- [20:07] Tezkat Well, they'd do it for fun every now and then.
- [20:08] Railock other races wouldn't really accept somethign that half assed hah
- [20:08] Tezkat Though I'm now curious as to what kinda governing bodies the fey might have.
- [20:09] Tezkat Perhaps Light and Dark aligned versions of the Seelie and Unseelie courts?
- [20:11] Railock maybe more formal fey. but warpkitties seem pretty primal/wild
- [20:11] Railock so maybe just a local matriarch to decide things. oldest mama cat in the forest
- [20:11] Tezkat Well... organizing fey is already like herding cats.
- [20:11] Tezkat This is just a bit more literal.
- [20:11] Railock if two kitties can't decide shit on their own, go to oldest mama cat in the area
- [20:13] Tezkat Kitties have a pack based organization that gather for festivals/mating/important events... so I guess the overall leadership would be something resembling a council of pack alphas.
- [20:23] Tezkat RAM... wanna develop the local vampire culture a bit more? Do they interact with each other? Or mostly lone wolves that carve out little private crypt domains?
- [20:24] Railock might add another race to work the top. farmers..maybe halflings
- [20:24] RAM Hmm...
- [20:24] RAM There's prolly not enough room for them to all have their own domains.
- [20:25] Tezkat Well... do they fight amongst themselves then? Or cooperate?
- [20:25] Tezkat Hmm... if you add hobbitz... I'd be super tempted to make kittehs Small size.
- [20:26] RAM If they're as big a problem as has been said, I don't thiunk they'd be fighting amongst themselves.
- [20:26] VAE_work so what exactly is the reason there's a party getting together in the first place?
- [20:27] VAE_work like, what's happened that's causing so much trouble?
- [20:27] VAE_work uncontrolled undead spill-out from below?
- [20:27] Tezkat Sometime in the near future... we're gonna have an airship crash on our island.
- [20:27] VAE_work heh. Arcanum started that way
- [20:27] Tezkat We play out the prologue... but the real adventure starts when we get our ship to the outside world.
- [20:28] Railock your island will work together to fix said airship. your party will be in charge of..going forth and exploring. meany and others have decided that one goal will be to basically work on turnign the island into the heart of an empire
- [20:28] VAE_work fine, but even prologue needs some motive
- [20:28] Railock So. I'm still workign on the prologue, but main thing is for it to basically be your party gaining at least some fame on the island
- [20:28] VAE_work and hmm. I suppose there si the reasoning that "an airship crashed here, there's civillization beyond these islands"
- [20:29] Tezkat The undead thing was the main local problem originally.
- [20:29] Tezkat But there are lots of flying monsters to deal with when they come to our island looking for noms.
- [20:31] Railock a lot of people disapear form the surface if they are out at night
- [20:31] Tezkat The local monsters/magical beasts are more of a maintained "hunting for kitties", but some of them could be rather strong.
- [20:32] Tezkat Was actually thinking kitties would be into hunting for sport... catch and release if they don't need the meat/parts.
- [20:33] Tezkat Or maybe excessively toying with food even if they do...
- [20:33] =-= RAM is now known as DreamingFox
- [20:33] DreamingFox Bedtime for me. Nini!
- [20:33] Meany ta
- [20:33] VAE_work night
- [20:33] Railock night
- [20:35] Railock So. probably gonna go with at least some qust of a local monster being troublesome and needing to be dealt with
- [20:38] VAE_work heh, quest
- [20:38] VAE_work more like the result of alcohol-fueled pub talk
- [20:38] Railock hah
- [20:38] VAE_work "I can totally take that beast out with one hand up my arse"
- [20:38] Tezkat At the risk of asploding timekeeping issues again... is there any particular reason we need months to be 30ish days long?
- [20:38] Railock go take out the giant ogre that's been terrorizing the farmers fields and eating hobbit daughters!
- [20:39] Tezkat If the month planet represents the fertility deity, I think it'd be interesting if its orbit actually coincided with a growing season.
- [20:39] Tezkat So it'd be a season marker rather than a month marker.
- [20:40] Tezkat When it's close, stuff grows better/blooms?
- [20:40] Railock since glitch was big on the time, gonna wait on him to tlak about that
- [20:41] Tezkat I like the idea that the orbits of cosmic bodies have significant impact on the world below.
- [20:41] Tezkat When the Light star is close, it's day. When the Nature planet is close, stuff blooms. And so on.
- [20:42] Railock when the war planet is close, people fight more?
- [20:42] Tezkat If there's a war planet...
- [20:44] Railock heh. have a death planet orbiting opposite life one...
- [20:44] Railock bad growing when it's close
- [20:44] Tezkat ...don't the suns already do that?
- [20:44] Tezkat The aztecs used to have a war season and a farming season...
- [20:45] Tezkat They didn't have domesticated pack or riding animals, so when the rains came you couldn't march off to invade enemies anyway. And you gotta plant to feed the troops.
- [20:45] Tezkat When it dried up, off to war!
- [20:45] Tezkat So they were farmers half the year and soldiers the other half.
- [20:47] Tezkat Could have similar excuses here. Though they could lean more magical too...
- [20:48] Tezkat e.g. when the war planet is close, war magic and destruction spells get a buff. So that's the best time to blow shit up.
- [20:48] Tezkat Have an entire calendar of cyclic magical events that folks have to work around.
- [20:51] Railock heh. could even keep 30 day months..have enough planets that each has a 30 day ascendance
- [20:52] Tezkat You mean they all share an orbit and take turns? That's weird...
- [20:52] Railock their gods as much as planets
- [20:52] Railock the whole cosmology is wierd! why not? could even be the "month" gods are smaller ones and not big like say fertility/war
- [20:53] Tezkat It wasn't so much the orbital mechanics I was calling weird...
- [20:54] Tezkat Though I suppose it could be thematic to set them up in pairs like the suns.
- [20:54] Railock if in pairs, could always signify one is on each gods side
- [20:54] Railock the light and dark pantheon
- [20:55] Tezkat I know I mentioned the possibility of cyclic CLs for certain light or dark aligned caster traditions/races... but could that work as a general mechanic for everyone?
- [20:55] Tezkat Like... light and healing magic literally work better during the day.
- [20:55] Tezkat But if you want to make a zombie, wait for nightime.
- [20:55] Railock why not. each god's portfolio works best when ascendant, worst when opposite in other pantheon is in ascendant
- [20:56] Meany The fuck does ascendant mean in this context
- [20:56] Railock closest to you guys.
- [20:56] Tezkat I think rail is using it as "on your side of the suns".
- [20:57] Railock oh for vae. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YQcXE4FTDIjkvWeMqVXNpCWBhVSv5t5FugifOLGOLkE/edit
- [20:58] Railock the notes glitch has been keeping
- [21:01] Railock okayu gotta put comp up. will be on phone a bit more. and will definaltly be on for plotting saturday
- [21:01] Meany seeya.
- [21:01] Tezkat Some of which are not necessarily set in stone...
- [21:01] Tezkat By the way... do we actually want the suns/planets to be active deities? Would it be best to keep them as primal forces of nature and leave the active machinations to outsiders lower on the food chain?
- [21:01] |<-- Railock has left llearch.net (Quit: Leaving.)
- [21:06] Railphone The sun gods rule the planet gods which rule smaller deities that show up and be really active
- [21:07] Tezkat The spacetime/magic goddess is presumably neutral... did we want her to the suns' mother or their daughter?
- [21:08] Railphone So light and dark and the neutral fate are major deities. They ignore mortals. Planets are minor deity. They send occasional messages minor influence on mortals. They have demigods as servants who appear in person to mortals
- [21:08] Tezkat Do we have a formal name for outsiders as a group?
- [21:08] Railphone No
- [21:09] Tezkat So they're sufficiently distinct from one god's service to the next that they're each considered their own group?
- [21:10] Tezkat Heh. Do the planets have moons?
- [21:10] Railphone Thinking that each god planet will have its own outsider type. Like war might have demons, nature eladrin
- [21:10] Railphone They might... Might be the demigods
- [21:12] Meany Black Hole gods as divine jailors?
- [21:12] Tezkat Hmm... is the distinction significant enough that we could justify bringing back aligned DR/smiting/protection?
- [21:12] Tezkat Like... DR/War or DR/Nature? O.o;;;
- [21:12] Tezkat Well, DR/Light and DR/Dark are already potential groups...
- [21:13] Tezkat Which could make for kinda cool weapon effects.
- [21:13] Railphone Possible will consider after I wish on which ideas make up the minor gods
- [21:13] Tezkat At least visually.
- [21:13] Railphone Looking to aim for ten planet gods
- [21:14] Tezkat Light and dark already form convenient groups for deciding how a cleric's channeling works.
- [21:14] Railphone Nature, war as definite so far
- [21:14] Tezkat Since they're inherently positive and negative energy.
- [21:14] Tezkat Do they have natural opposites?
- [21:14] Railphone Planning that all have an opposing if not opposite
- [21:15] Tezkat Like... if we're thinking SOP spheres... is protection part of war or the opposite of war?
- [21:15] Railphone Bit of both
- [21:15] Tezkat As opposites... That could make for really weird seasonal warfare...
- [21:16] Tezkat You can have buffed attack and debuffed defence... or vice versa.
- [21:16] Tezkat Depending on the season. Heh.
- [21:16] Railphone Would make everyone only attack during war
- [21:17] Railphone Probably go part of in that one
- [21:17] Tezkat Well... more like it would make it so that folks did their damnest to gain a tactical advantage just before War is ascendant.
- [21:17] Tezkat Because pure offence favours whoever starts with the advantage.
- [21:18] Tezkat Likewise folks could probably hold a siege forever if Protection is high in the sky.
- [21:19] Tezkat Hmm... are the individual elements primals or minor gods?
- [21:19] Railphone Might v also be multiple gods affect same domain of not opposite. So might be times you have +2 war, +1 protection
- [21:20] Railphone Primals
- [21:21] Tezkat Are they represented as planets? Or more like the magic goddess where their bodies are the world?
- [21:21] Railphone Part of world
- [21:21] Railphone Though may reconsider
- [21:21] Railphone Would work well as minor god for magic
- [21:22] Tezkat How many primal elements do we want? Standard 4?
- [21:23] Railphone There's 8 in path. Ice ooze magma smoke s other four
- [21:23] Tezkat Those aren't called paraelementals?
- [21:23] Tezkat The new occult book adds aether (telekinesis) and void (gravity, sorta) too...
- [21:25] Railphone Eh might as well be four
- [21:25] Tezkat Mind you... this is also something you might want to work backwards from mechanics.
- [21:25] Tezkat Since ideally you want there to be a link between elements and damage types.
- [21:26] Railphone Yeah. I will be looking at a lot of mechanics when I set the gods
- [21:27] Tezkat It's probably a given that Light (radiant?) and Dark (necrotic?) will be more common energy types in this setting.
- [21:27] Railphone Yeah
- [21:28] Tezkat You know...
- [21:28] Tezkat Remember what the older editions of D&D did with quasielementals?
- [21:28] Railphone Lightning and time?
- [21:28] Tezkat Uh...
- [21:28] Tezkat Okay... in 1e D&D...
- [21:29] Tezkat The elemental planes were sorta like a cube.
- [21:29] Tezkat air fire earth water on the sides, positive and negative energy on top and bottom
- [21:30] Tezkat Where the standard planes joined, you had the paraelemental planes.
- [21:30] Tezkat e.g. fire + earth = magma
- [21:30] Tezkat But on the top and bottom, you got what were basically positive and negative versions of traditional elements
- [21:31] Tezkat So Air + Positive = Lightning, Air + Negative = Vacuum.
- [21:31] Tezkat Fire + Positive = Radiance, Fire + Negative = Ash. And so on.
- [21:32] Tezkat We could rework that a bit into our light and dark structure.
- [21:32] Railphone What were the other four?
- [21:32] Tezkat https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_Plane
- [21:33] Tezkat So like... instead of Ice being Air + Water, it could be Water + Dark.
- [21:34] Tezkat Likewise, Smoke could be Fire + Dark.
- [21:34] Railphone Mama earth+light
- [21:34] Tezkat Something like that.
- [21:34] Tezkat Air + Dark could be pure cold.
- [21:35] Railphone That's only using right of the sixteen
- [21:35] Railphone Eight
- [21:35] Tezkat Do you reaaaaaaally need dust and salt elementals?
- [21:35] Railphone There are mephits!
- [21:36] Railphone J/k
- [21:37] Tezkat Could also do some fun things with partial energy resistances...
- [21:37] Railphone Don't want to get too complicated
- [21:37] Railphone Also. One thing I do want
- [21:38] Tezkat Like... each resistance gives you partial resistance to the neighbouring energy type.
- [21:38] Railphone Character theme songs! A song you think embodies the char or the story you want the char to have!
- [21:38] Tezkat is bad at that.
- [21:40] Railphone Got time to find something! Heh
- [21:41] Tezkat Do the suns have genders?
- [21:42] Railphone Not decided yet
- [21:46] Railphone Gonna crash. Night. Tezkat, can you get glitch a lot of this when he gets on?
- [21:47] Tezkat If he's back before I crash...
- [21:47] Tezkat Night.
- [21:50] Railphone Thanks. If not maybe vae or meany can
- [21:50] Meany Night
- [21:51] VAE_work i'm gonna nap soon myself
- [21:51] VAE_work I should long ago have
- [22:13] =-= VAE_work is now known as sleepylynx
