1. The Deep Space Nine outpost station, formerly known as Terek Nor during the Cardassian occupation, sits in orbit above the planet of Bajor. The station, which operates on a 26 hour day much like the planet itself, would be relatively unremarkable were it not for the presence of the only stable wormhole in the entire Milky Way galaxy, which connects the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant over 70,000 light years away. This makes it a popular stopping point for travelers coming from either side of the wormhole, as well as a lucrative outpost for all manner of merchants and businessmen to work their trade.
2.
3. Despite the structure's large outer portions, most of the main facilities can be found in the central core of the station: the operations and communication at the top, the engineering and support facilities at the bottom, and the Promenade sitting between them.
4.
5. The Promenade is the most trafficked area of the station, as it's where commerce and recreation take place. Comprised of three levels , it is a full 360 degree ring with broad walkways offering all manner of recreation, shopping, and dining experiences from across the galaxy. On the whole, it looks like something between a free port and a flea market, consistently bustling with aliens and humans of all stripes. Notable shops include Garak's Clothiers (for when you feel like resembling a tourist bus from 1986) as well as Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House, and Holosuite Arcade <s>for when you feel like overpaying for just about anything</s> for when you want to enjoy that authentic space cantina experience. There are also a number of species-specific places to eat, including a Klingon restaurant serving fresh Klingon delicacies (and by fresh, we mean 'still crawling'), a Replicator stand or two, and a few carts offering street food scattered around for hungry travelers.
6.
7. The Promenade also houses the station's medical facilities, the security office, and a Bajoran temple, which periodically celebrates the various holidays and festivals of the Bajoran faith.
8.
9. The inner ring of the station, or the Habitat ring, houses most of the semi-permanent and permanent residents on the station, as well as six landing pads used for runabouts and other small craft. It's also the location of the guest quarters, used to house visiting dignitary and ambassadors during their time at the station. While the housing provided was built to accommodate over seven thousand people, it rarely if ever hosts more than five hundred these days, leaving whole wings worth of empty domiciles.
10.
11. The outside ring of the station is the Docking ring, which is used primarily for moving good, storing goods, and for docking starships of all shapes and sizes. Twelve large docking ports are distributed around the perimeter with numerous cargo bays between them. The docking pylons that give the station it's unique shape are used for exceptionally large ships , as well as for the ore processing facilities that were part of the station's original purpose during the Cardassian occupation.
12.
13. For those interested in getting their feet onto steady ground, there is a shuttle that operates on the hour, every hour, which transports passengers down to the surface of Bajor itself. The ride takes about three hours, but most visitors feel that it's certainly worth the wait. While Bajor is a world still somewhat recovering from wartime operation, the Bajoran people have a rich history of art, literature, and religion that is worth exploring within the cities and despite large sections of land still undergoing recovery after the occupation, there are dense forests, windy grasslands, and drier regions suitable for hiking and camping as well.
