So here's the behavior:

I have ampache and mpd running in the background and pulseaudio configured for per-user sessions. when i get the login screen, pulse is running fine, and i can use ampache/mpd remotely without trouble. then when i log in, sound cuts out, to the point where aplay directed at my alsa hw address just hangs.
