14.
My tumblr is almost exclusively dedicated to the three girls of Kalafina and everything related to them (text posts, pictures, gifs, art, etc). I am trying my best to keep this site as updated as possible so you'll always find the latest Kalafina news here. On top of that, I like to indulge in some occasional detective work so be on the lookout for a couple of interesting finds here and there ^_^

 16.
I regularly translate Kalafina's blog posts. Feel free to check them out! From time to time, I'll also translate random interviews that catch my interest (usually stuff that reveals some personal information about the girls). I am open to requests so if you ever feel like you want some quick translations of Kalafina-related stuff, feel free to ask me ^_^

 40.
Introducing Kalafina

 41.
Ōtaki Wakana/大滝若菜
1984/12/10 (Fukuoka)
I like comparing Wakana’s voice to a violin. If you listen closely, it resonates in a similar fashion. There’s a saying that the violin is the most human of all instruments, it can imitate certain accents of the human voice such as crying or wailing. If someone were to ask me which human voice serves as a perfect model for the violin, I’d have to say that it is without a doubt Wakana’s. Her violin-like voice conveys so much tragedy, pain and nostalgia but also brightness and hope. Hearing all this tragedy in her voice was the first thing that attracted me to FJ/Kalafina and up to this day I treasure this unique quality. I don’t know many vocalists who manage to turn even the most cheerful tune into something sad and tragic, some may not like this but I can’t get enough of this particular sound. It's not often that a singer can make me cry, Wakana is one of the very few exceptions, there's just something in her voice and in the way she conveys her lines, it makes me incredibly emotional, yet at the same time her voice provides comfort and reassurance. Knowing her sensitive nature, her backstory and all the troubles she went through, it makes listening to her an even more special and healing experience. As Hikaru has once put it so adequately, "her voice has the quality of something clear and bright fallen from the sky. Like something that will quieten an unruly heart, like a prayer that will heal your wounds."

 42.
"Wakana is in charge of the high range with her pure and silky voice. When singing melodies as smooth as water, her voice can ring with benevolent affection the same way a prayer does."
- Spring pamphlet

 43.
 44.

 45.
 46.
Kubota Keiko/窪田啓子
1985/12/05 (Tokyo)
If Wakana's voice resembles a violin, then Keiko's voice is clearly the equivalent of a cello. In my opinion, the cello produces the most beautiful sounds out of all instruments, be it calm and solemn tones in the lower registers or passionate and vibrant ones in the upper registers. The exact same can be said about Keiko's voice. She often provides the harmonies with her dark and mysterious singing, she is the one that ties everything together. She will make Wakana sound even more tragic and she will makes Hikaru sound even more powerful. And then we have her astonishing solo parts which are so epic, I can hardly find words to describe them. Suffice to say, they give me goosebumps each and every single time. On top of that, the delivery of her lines is technically flawless. You'll be hard pressed to find a singer who is working as hard as Keiko to achieve her goals. For all these reasons and many more, she is my favourite, there's just so much I admire about her. I am forever grateful to Yuki Kajiura for discovering the potential in Keiko all these years ago. It's rare to find female singers that have such a distinct quality to their voice.

 47.
"Keiko holds together Kalafina's chorus work with her deep tone. Her singing voice is bold, impressionable and rich, which can echo as grand as a vast field, or with a soft and warm connotation."
- Spring pamphlet

 48.
 49.

 50.
 51.
Masai Hikaru/政井光
1987/07/02 (Toyama)
Yuki Kajiura once said that Hikaru's voice has a unique reverberation and she was certainly right about that. At its most natural state, her voice produces sounds similar to many woodwinds, take a flute for example. Hikaru's singing is so many things at once, it's airy, soft , bright and clear but also rich and penetrating. Unlike Keiko and Wakana, Hikaru is much more versatile when it comes to range and style and she is not afraid to try new things. Her vocal strength is amazing. She really stands out in powerful and dark songs, no one can do rough and edgy like "fierce!karu", she literally slays. Her voice delivery may not always be 100% perfect but she makes up for it with passion and intensity. Among Kalafina, she is without a doubt the most expressive singer, she literally becomes one with the song she is singing or as Hikaru herself has put it frequently, she creates entire worlds while performing. I love that they have incorporated many of her interpreations into the stage productions, they add so much to Kalafina's performances.

 52.
"Hikaru has a wide register, and sings in keys between the mid and high range. Her solid high notes feel like they have an unstoppable momentum that will pierce through anything."
- Spring pamphlet

 53.

 54.
Now, generally speaking, I am first and foremost WaKei trash

 55.
The harmonies between Wakana and Keiko are simply astounding! It's that lovely combination that first attracted me to Kalafina.

 56.
However, please don't get me wrong, Hikaru is my precious little baby and she deserves all the love in the world! A fierce sinnamonroll disguised as an innocent cinnamonroll, that's what she is XD No one is more badass than her, she can literally ROCK the stage!

 60.
Aside from Kalafina/FJ, you won't find much else on this site. I love doing memes though so you'll probably see a few of those.

 61.
Of course I have many other things I am obsessed with and sometimes I'll feel an overwhelming need to reblog a certain post that's completely unrelated to Kalafina, I am sorry about that. I do tag those posts with "non-kalafina" in case you wanna blacklist them. I am really into all kinds of pink/cute/gay/fashion/Asian stuff so expect to see some posts about that.
