- Hey there, I'm having an issue with an octominer motherboard that I recently had delivered. I attempted to
- resolve it through the online chat, but they advised me to try tech support via email instead. Here is my issue
- and everything we've tried so far (referenced video is attached):

- seems like half the time I boot it the
- NIC works, half the time it doesnt

- I took this video of the boot on
- ubuntu to show you

- note the kernel panic messages
- before the desktop loads, and the
- network icon in the top right that
- spins and never stops

- likewise the lights on the NIC itself
- are lit at the beginning, but right
- before ubuntu loads they go out and
- never come back on

- Hmm. Could you please tell me the
- types of GPUs you are using on the
- rig, and whether the voltage was
- different between the outlets?

- use two but I wasnt sure which two

- adapters but let me make sure Im
- using the three closest to the CPU

- I was using the three furthest from
- the CPU, so I moved them to the
- closer slots

- attempted to boot three times...one
- time worked, two times failed
- Hmm. Doesn't appear to be a power
- issue either. Could you please reset
- the CMOS? There is a blue jumper
- between the CPU and adjacent GPU
- slot. Power off the rig, switch the
- jumper, boot for 20 seconds, power
- off, switch back.

- I switched the jumper and powered
- on...the psu switched on but the
- board did not appear to do anything.
- I waited 20 seconds, powered off,
- switched the jumper back, and then
- the machine boot looped twice with
- nothing on the monitor. It boot
- looped again, showing the American
- Megatrends logo, then fully booted
- the next time through. The problem
- still persists.
- I'm sorry, but there are no further
- solutions I can offer and I am
- completely unfamiliar with this issue.

- Do you have any other ram sticks to try? What does the current one look like? Kernel panic can sometimes arise from
- either bad ram or ram that is not fitted well.
- Could you try a usb ethernet adapter as well?

- Afraid not, I only have the one I ordered. I did reseat it several times, however.
- I sometimes get 5 beeps on POST as well, if that means anything.

- 5 beeps on boot means it should boot ok.
- I'm guessing it's a ram issue. Would you be ok ordering another ram if we refunded you for this one?

- Still just the original problem with the network port...the vast majority of the time it seems to deactivate when the OS
- starts. Occasionally it stays on and works, but not often.
