  124. General backstory and character information
  125.
  126. Max is a clean six foot, and 23 years old. He's quite tanned from living in the desert his whole life, and thinks nothing of a little heat. He is fascinated by machines, but robots especially. Like his father and mother, he has brown hair, green eyes, and a little bit of a prominent nose. Like most people of the wastes, but the tribals especially, Maxes arms and legs are covered in scars from nicks or bites, as well as the occasional deeper wound. He has hunted his whole life, and made most of his own tools, and cares little about being stuck alone in a desert wasteland. He's learned on his own, and been taught, that there is always a way to stay alive. He was born into the Gladstone tribe, a group of 40 or so natives living in the ruins of a large town, specifically out of the dilapidated "Gladstone autorepair" building. The Gladstones were isolated for quite some time after the great war, due to poor luck more than anything, and were forced to use bows and arrows, or brute force weapons, rather than the ever useful firearm. The Gladstones finally met a scouting party from a far off civilization, in the time of Maxes grandfather. Soon minor trade was opened, and the Gladstones traded for information and firearms, and most importantly, medical supplies. Despite the new availability of firearms the Gladstones continued to train their children in the ways of the tribesman, and to a large extent they succeeded. Less than a month ago, Max was traveling home from a meet up with a trader in the wastes. He was trading hides and food for medical goods, but negotiations took a while and he was forced to travel back home in late, in the dark. He came over a high ridge, and looked over the wide valley at his home. Something was wrong, he could hear automatic gunfire, and see flashes around the buildings of his home. He was at least an hours walk away, but felt compelled to drop all but his small pistol and rush towards home. He paid no mind to the hazards of the underbrush, and got many cuts and bruises, having very little illumination from the sky during this season. He slowed his pace for a moment, something changed. The sounds were gone, and in the distance he could see the few lighted buildings the tribe had turn off, one by one. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and continued on, angry, fearful, and confused. After some time he entered the village, gasping for air and searching for anyone. He found his cousin Fadi laying face down on the ground. In the low light, Max could make out a large exit wound in his back. As he was getting up to look for more people, he heard sputtering inside a nearby building. He rushed in and found the corpses of 4 of his tribesman. Awful, awful wounds on their bodies. He stepped over them and walked toward the noise. He called out "It's max! Where are you?" to the darkness of the room, and waited. He heard ruffling, and a click. Followed by two more clicks. At the last, a small amount of light drew his eye, in the corner of a room. Maxes heart skipped a beat as he realized it wasn't one of his tribesman. It was a man in raiders garb, examining two large wounds in his stomach. A shotgun was near the man, so Max drew his pistol and pointed at him. "What happened? What happened!" Max caught himself starting to tear, and the raider took the opportunity to grab for his weapon. Max fired blindly, and heard the man scream. He closed his eyes and shot again, and again, and again until his revolver was empty. He threw it at the raider, and looked at him armor. The insignia of a local group of raiders was painted there, partly obscured now by the mans blood. Max left the building and continued his search, until early into the morning. A few of his tribesmen were unaccounted for, but the rest were very much dead. He gathered up the few caps his tribe had, along with his own gear, and his fathers Revolver, and put them aside. As is customary for his people, he needed to burn the fallen to ash, so he moved the bodies into a small building, performed the funeral rite, and set it ablaze. After it was only embers, he collected his belongings and left, out into the desert. His heart was pained, and he wept every day until he made it to the Gladstones main trading partner, a sizable and lively town built in the shadow of a large stoney hill, Budgeford.
