  5. My personal experience with geography.
  6. Besides the fact that it was a GE requirement, I chose to take a geography course rather than another subject because…
  7.
  8. Honestly I wanted to take geography since I felt it was the more logical choice, especially since I may have been unable to name all of the continents if you asked me to before this class. I also felt that having such a lacking knowledge on geography would hinder me at some point in the future. I mean it is bad enough that I do not know the number of continents there are in this blue world. My other choices in the area that geography fulfills were more socially related which felt out of place to me. Also when other people talk about other places overseas, I can't help but feel bothered that I have no idea where in the world they visited.

  12. Geography education in my country of origin Indonesia was this...
  13.
  14. One of the main reasons for my abysmal knowledge in geography was due to the my school not providing a geography teacher for my entire high-school life. My school did have a teacher for geography for one semester though he was quickly fired due to a scandal with the students. However, the class was boring and I did not learn much from it. It did not help that our school decided not to bother with geography until after I graduated. Thus, I never had proper education on the subject so getting a chance to learn geography now was perfect. However, I do believe that other schools provided at least one geography class and that my school was more of the exception rather than the rule. As my country can be considered a third-world country, I am not too surprised that my school did not bother introducing geography into our curriculum as it was not detrimental to our education though I do feel that my geography may need to be stronger.

  17. My personal experience with geography before taking this course was this…
  18.
  19. I did not have much experience with geography in the classroom, as I said before, my previous school did not include geography in their curriculum. Due to this lack of education I did not have much exposure to geography in my previous school. However, my parents loved to travel and will occasionally take me with them on their journeys. As a result, I do have a rather impressive memory bank of the places I visited such as Africa, Japan, Italy and many more. However, while I will recognise these names I honestly have no idea where they are located in the world with only a vague idea of the distance to get to that place I am visiting. In fact, my home country Indonesia is basically a gigantic cluster of islands and of those thousands of islands the amount of islands I can remember I can count on only one hand.

  23. I would like to learn more about this geography-related topic…
  24.
  25. A geography topic that I would like to learn about would be Oceanography as I am incredibly curious about the ocean with its diversity of fauna and geography. The ocean’s geography seems incredibly mysterious due to the lack of air and replaced with water as this allows for different rules for the ocean’s geography to form under. This leads to many interesting and diverse landscapes underwater. I am also a licensed PADI - Scuba diver and I am in awe of how beautiful the ocean can be. Luckily, Indonesia has many beautiful islands I can visit and take a dip in the ocean to see the diverse nature under the sea.
