  1. > Meanwhile in Falstad Republic.
  2. > The parliament finishes the meeting earlier than usually.
  3. > Senators and deputies quits the Republic Hall keeping influential silence.
  4. > They just voted about the future of their country and maybe the entire world.
  5. > And some of them aren't happy at all.
  6. > But one of them, a human, called Niccolo, is in a rather good mood.
  7. > He leaves the interspecies crowd of noble mammals and goes towards you.
  8. > Your head almost meets a marble floor as you bow.
  9. >"How many times have I beg you to quit the formalities, Falfstark?"
  10. > His laugh echoes in the corridor.
  11. "Dear minister, I will never be able repay my debt to you, let me at least show my respect."
  12. >"Alright, alright. I have a very good informations for you, but we need to find a better place to talk. Follow me."
  13. > Niccolo doesn't wait for you; he takes his energetic walk through the rest of the building, but it's not a problem to keep his pace for an adult dragon.
  14. > Both of you walk out of the building and go to the nearest cafe in the political district.
  15. > As your orders has been taken by a earth pony, Niccolo raises his eyebrow looking straight at you.
  16. "Dear minister," you start but he interrups you with waving of his hand.
  17. >"Falfstark, my dearest friend, I know that you are a bit nervous, but don't you remember not to talk about politics with me unless you have coffee?".
  18. "Yesss... But-"
  19. > He looks deep in your reptile eyes with his steel-like glare.
  20. >"Have I ever dissapointed you?"
  21. > It was said innocently, but you get the message.
  22. > With that you stop pushing him.
  23. "I'm sorry, I'm just very anxious about my little ask."
  24. > A smile returns on his face, and his eyes are warm again.
  25. >"I can see why. Oh, the coffee is here."
  26. > A waiter, earth pony, places two cups of black gold on the table and dissapears as fast as he would never been here.
  27. > He takes a sip, tears in his eyes, but he says nothing.
  28. > You touch your cup and it's clear that it's hot as tartarus's flames.
  29. > He coughes.
  30. >"We can't let that happen," his voice sounds unnatural.
  31. > Does that mean he wasn't able to...
  32. > His eyes meet yours, when he adds, "At least not officially."
  33.
  34. > You forget how to speak in happyness.
  35. > If you hug him, or even shake his hand, your sharp scales would probably turn him into pork chops.
  36. > That's why you only respectfully bow.
  37. >"Don't smile so wide. If that has to work out it has to be done in white gloves. We can't be tracked down."
  38. > Oh, yes.
  39. > Death would be an act of mercy which all of you would not easily receive.
  40. > You nod and he smiles.
  41. >"And I want to remind you that the discretion normally generates some extra costs."
  42. "Uh, about that. As I said earlier, I will pay every-"
  43. >"That is not necessary, my friend. I don't want to see your workshop in hands, er, I mean claws other than yours. And in fact, that action will cost a fortune we don't have. I've spoken with the Great Accountant already and," he pauses and tilts his head, "do I really need to add that he was more than happy to hear about his chance to repay his debt?"
  44. > Sweet Falwing.
  45. > He is talking about an expensive and dangerous try of betraing the state and nation who has chosen him to be one of their rulers, even if he was barely after 35, in a public place like this cafe and, what is odd, you know that no one is bold enough to eavesdrop that.
  46. "I don't know how I have to thank you, Niccolo. That technology will improve my research for a millenium or even more."
  47. >"You don't have to thank me, just remeber that I really want to see that thing before you start your little experiments."
  48. "Of course, you're the one who pays for all this expedition."
  49. >"No," he chuckles, "the state pays."
  50. > After the coffee, before you depart, he places his hand on your spikey arm.
  51. >"One last thing, dear friend. My connections aren't strong in your homeland, my arms don't reach even to Equestria nowadays. You will be stranded there. Even if they catch you, I'll not move a finger, I know you understand why."
  52. "I do. Don't worry, Niccolo. I have a plan."
  53. >"The less I know, the better I sleep, Falfstark, and I have an insomnia already. Don't let them win."
