  1. ASUS Laptop – How to Install Linux Mint 18 Mate
  2. This Basic Installation will format/erase the ENTIRE Drive – See the Advanced Install

  7. Password: shannon

  9. I already made these changes in the bios…
  10. I used ESC while powering up to get the boot choices and option for setting up the bios
  11. In the bios go to Security and disable Secure Boot
  12. Find CSM and Enable it, Note, you cant do this before you disable secure boot
  13. Then where you click on save and exit
  14. you can also do a boot to the usb directly from that menu
  15. Or hit escape again on boot and select the USB as the boot device

  17. To Install Linux Mint, Start Here...Using a Live Mint OS
  18. A Live OS is one that does not use the systems hard drive. It simply runs in memory and vanishes when you power down. It will allow you to read a hard drive on a damaged system and save important files to a second flash drive / memory stick. It is also how you will install a fresh copy of Linux Mint. Note: Learn to properly eject or remove the usb drives by using right click.

  20. Insert the Mint flash drive in the USB (Blue) Port, Power up and start tapping ESCAPE
  21. Select the SanDisk USB as the boot device, Not the UEFI SanDisk and hit Enter
  22. This starts the Live Linux Mint Operating System

  24. Begin by Enable Networking
  25. The network icon in down in the bottom right corner of the screen
  26. Click on it and select your home network and enter your password to your home network.
  27. There will be a pop-up thats says online/connected
  28.  
  29. There is an icon on the desktop that says.. Install Linux Mint, Double Click on it.

  31. Welcome:
  32. English is pre-selected – Click on Continue
  33.  
  34. Preparing to Install Linus Mint:
  35. – Put check in box to allow installing third party software
  36. Click on Continue
  37.  
  38. Installation Type:
  39. Install alongside an existing system
  40. * Erase everything and Use the entire Hard Drive – USE THIS OPTION
  41. Encryption
  42. LVM
  43. Something Else
  44.  
  45. Click on Install NOW.
  46.  
  47. Write the changes to the hard drive.
  48. Warning Blah blah blah
  49. Click on Continue
  50.  
  51. Where are You in the World:
  52. Select the location closest to you. Phoenix or ?
  53. Click on Continue
  54.  
  55. Keyboard Layout:
  56. English US is pre-selected
  57. Click on Continue
  58.  
  59. Who are You:
  60. Enter Your Name: Shannon
  61. Enter a name for this Computer: ASUS
  62. Pick a UserName: shannon
  63. Note all lower case-
  64. Pick a Password: shannon
  65. Repeat the password: shannon
  66.  
  67. Put Check in Circle to Log in Automatically
  68. No Check in Circle for Require Password
  69. No Check in Box for Encryption
  70.  
  71. Click on Continue
  72. - The Login can be changed to suit your needs at any time
  73.  
  74. There will be a pop up telling you the installation is done
  75. Click - Restart
  76.  
  77. When instructed to do so - Remove the USB Flash Drive and hit enter.
  78. You are done.
