However, the sight of carrying the unconscious or dead must not be too uncommon as nobody stops your group as Meadow is hurried through town sprawl across Ryla's back. Upon arriving at the GS estate, Meadow is deposited s [6:01:38 PM CST] <[Cy]> omewhere to recover and Ryla looks for a place to check on the healing of her wounds.] [6:17:28 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne , after resting for a few minutes, departs headquarters and heads back into town; hoping to replenish her supplies at the local markets. She sits up, gingerly feeling the throbbing lump on her head, and looks about the room. [6:35:45 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Hanne can't seem to find a dagger for below 1318 Ris in the shady pit of ware vendors. It seems that anybody who is out for quality would be getting their materials from some merc company's supply chain. Bandages are about 60 Ris for a wound's-worth, so the weaver claims.] [6:36:30 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow's room is a tent. Sounds of construction waft in from outside. Some Green Shield imagery reminds her of where she is.] [6:38:45 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow gets to her feet and steps outside to see what the state of things in the camp is. [6:40:27 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The Green Shield estate is coming together nicely. The walls of the main building are up and the two floors are largely laid out, leaving the roof to be worked on this morn. Most everyone visible is involved with the construction effort.] [6:41:57 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne mulls over her need for a dagger before deciding against a purchase. She buys 5 wound's-worth of bandages before returning back to headquarters. [6:43:35 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow checks for the presence of the figures that have taken charge of Green Shield's general operations. [6:45:20 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Wandering around, Meadow finds the leader team discussing something beside the main building-to-be.] [6:49:33 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow listens to the conversation while she watches the construction. [6:51:01 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The discussion is currently about the finishing materials to be installed on the walls when complete.] [6:54:17 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow waits for a pause or a lull in the conversation before trying to bring up a subject of her own interest. [6:58:46 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The leadership group settles for a earthen-based outer coating for tactical purposes before Meadow finds her break.] [7:01:33 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Excuse me. [7:02:16 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: Oh, you're back. Did you complete the contract? [7:03:43 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Yes, we did. [7:07:04 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: Where is it? [7:08:19 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Due to some clerical difficulties at the office, we weren't able to collect the reward immediately. We'll have to visit the office later in order to do so. [7:09:01 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: Hm, I expected as much. Are you going to take care of that yourself, or do you want someone else to claim it? [7:10:45 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> If you'd rather someone else claim it, I wouldn't be upset. The reward would have found its way back to Green Shield one way or another. [7:11:53 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: I asked in case you would be busy. *She regards you sternly.* If you have the time then you should be the one to see your job through. [7:12:14 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Of course. It shouldn't be a problem to collect the reward myself. [7:13:28 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne arrives back at headquarters to see Meadow speaking with the other leaders. She approaches them and addresses Meadow directly: [7:13:43 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Ah, you're awake. Have you returned to your senses? [7:14:14 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> At least in part. To what extent is doubtless a matter of opinion. [7:14:46 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Hmph. [7:14:54 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne crosses her arms. [7:15:11 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I'm guessing you're reporting what happened at the office then? [7:15:51 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I was just coming around to that, actually. [7:16:39 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Well then. [7:16:47 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne looks around. [7:17:02 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I don't suppose you've seen Ryla around? [7:17:52 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Not since I came to. [7:18:38 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Figures. [7:18:46 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne looks to the other leaders then back to Meadow. [7:18:59 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Well? [7:19:49 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow looks to the assembled Green Shield members. [7:19:57 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Are you familiar with Glanari Ibnat Mahud Al Kirib? [7:20:40 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The other GS people exchange glances.] [7:20:52 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: No, should we be? [7:23:34 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> She's a powerful mage, with the ability to move most anything at her whim. The Confederacy would very much like to contain her, but all restraints known to them have proven to be ineffective. As a result, she's at large, constantly waging a battle against her boredom at being able to do whatever she pleases. [7:25:45 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I mention her only because she's taken an interest in Hanne's armor, here, and offered to buy her from me in order to et at it. I'm worried that her interest will drive her to interfere in whatever we do until she's able to secure some deal in that results in her possession of this magic-nullifying armor. I wanted to, at the very least, make this issue known, and ask for whatever advice you might be willing to provide in dealing with it. [7:28:15 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: I don't suppose you were told how to undo the transmutation. [7:28:35 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow looks to Hanne. [7:28:48 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne shakes her head. [7:30:17 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: Does this mage intend to take it by force? As I understand it, that's one of the few illegal actions in the Confederacy. [7:31:31 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> When she hade her offer, she respected my reply that she wasn't for sale. [7:32:27 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm unsure to what extent she's barred from attempting to pressure me into a sale, though. And even so, by all accounts, the law is unable to hold Glanari accountable to it. [7:33:20 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: How much is she offering for the armour? [7:35:30 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> She asked me to quote her a price, actually; I declined to give her one. [7:39:42 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: We'll see if we can find anything about the State's transmutation magic to avoid giving away artifacts. If this mage is cordial, maybe you can haggle and occupy her time each time she asks. [7:42:08 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne looks over to Meadow. [7:44:19 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> What, you're not going to mention she'd gone and incapacitated everyone at the Khashwahg Office; the reason why we couldn't collect on our reward? I suppose you wouldn't know this, but she returned afterwards and kidnapped the receptionist as well. [7:50:01 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> She did? ...Which one? [7:50:37 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Uhg. [7:50:46 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne makes a face at Meadow before turning to the leaders. [7:53:22 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Right. We returned to the office upon completion of our task when we came up upon Glanari in the main lobby; the unconscious bodies of the office staff around her. Due to her ability, an attempt to recover them failed; followed by the haggling that Meadow had just described. Glanari left promptly afterwards. [7:53:27 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne shifts her weight. [7:55:04 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> We attempted to treat the unconscious staff members, but before we could, Meadow's mind was attacked by an unknown entity that suddenly appeared in our midst; an entity that was wearing the face the unconscious office receptionist. [7:55:40 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne looks sternly at Meadow as she speaks. [7:56:52 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow lowers her head slightly, looking steadily back. [7:59:07 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I won't pretend to fully understand what occurred next, but Meadow began to behave strangely, becoming oddly amicable to this entity's suggestions. When I attempted to intervene, a scuffle broke out and Meadow was knocked unconscious. I managed to destroy the entity, but no sooner afterwards Glanari appeared again; claiming the body as well as the still unconscious receptionist before again disappearing swiftly. Ryla and I then [7:59:08 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> returned to HQ with the injured Meadow. [7:59:45 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne lowers her arms at her sides. [7:59:49 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> This concludes my report. [8:01:10 PM CST] <[Cy]> M: Is this accurate, Meadow? [8:04:14 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> It is. I witnessed these events, just as she has reported them. The exact nature of the receptionist's duplicate is unknown to both of us. Hanne's theory that it be some sort of demon cannot be discounted, but I don't know of any evidence to confirm it, either. [8:06:06 PM CST] <[Cy]> M: You couldn't even tell that your mind was attacked? Our expedition profile listed that you had been trained in these things when under the tutelage of the State. [8:07:22 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I witnessed Meadow collapse in visible pain the moment the entity appeared. [8:12:21 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> If it was an attack, it was unlike any attack I've been educated to resist. My fall was the direct result of the vision of the future I was experiencing at the time. As I said, that the receptionist's duplicate be the product of an external force is only one possibe explanation among many; it may also well be that she was the product of some facet of my ability that I, and perhaps no one besides, was previously aware of. [8:14:31 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The leadership group turn to each other and mutter some things.] [8:19:33 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: Your group will stay here for this week, Meadow. We'll see how the paperwork turns out regarding the contract, and what became of the mage and staff. Next time, don't get involved in a Khashi dispute when it doesn't serve our ends. [8:23:18 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Understood. [8:24:31 PM CST] <[Cy]> W: In the meantime, try to figure out your magic. [8:24:58 PM CST] <[Cy]> [The leadership group walk off into the partially complete HQ building to oversee some other things.] [8:25:59 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Will you be there to dispose of any other figures I might accidentally will into being as I "figure out my magic?" [8:27:10 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne gives Meadow an irritated look. [8:28:56 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> You mean you want me to babysit you whilst you perform some unsafe magics? If you're going to casually summon demons without a care in the world, I might just find it easier to run you through instead. [8:31:31 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I cannot perform magic safely unless I understand what to avoid. If I am to "figure out my magic," I must attempt to duplicate the effect we witnessed earlier. [8:33:02 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne groans. [8:34:41 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> If another Meadow appears I'm killing her immediately. One's is more than enough trouble. [8:35:27 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> And if you met a copy of yourself? Do you think you could best her in single combat? [8:36:41 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Of course I could. [8:36:49 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne lowers her visor. [8:37:40 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Now. Are you just going to start magicking out here, or would you rather move somewhere less in the middle of headquarters? [8:38:23 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> For safety's and propriety's sake, we should seek out a bit of privacy. [8:41:13 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne motions her to lead the way. [8:41:49 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow begins to walk towards the outskirts of the camp. [8:44:22 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> It would be nice if we didn't have to terrify anyone else with the sudden appearance of a familiar face, but I don't know if there's a tent or other shelter we might purpose for our use... [8:45:14 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Just find an empty one. [8:48:55 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow checks the tent in which she came to. She sees it is still empty, and so motions for Hanne to come in after her. [8:50:55 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne enters the tent and stands a short pace's distance from her. Drawing her sword slowly, Hanne steadies her grip; holding the blade above her shoulders. [8:51:03 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Right, let's get this over with. [8:52:12 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> We'll need someone to attempt to duplicate. Ryla? [8:53:41 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Why not yourself? Why not that maid you're obsessed with? [8:55:02 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow takes a seat on the bed and thinks, staring at the ground in front of Hanne's feet. [8:55:12 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I'm not sure either of those is a viable option. [8:57:55 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne continues to stand at the ready. [8:59:08 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> As I remember the circumstances that led to the appearance of that receptionist's double, I've noticed some particular properties of that vision that set it apart from others I've had. One is that it was a vision I had from my own perspective. Another is that the person that was duplicated was in the same place in my vision as my phisical body was as I was having the vision. If I can only duplicate people I interact with in my vision while they're [8:59:08 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> in the same place that I—and the duplicated person, now that I think of it—physically inhabit, it may be impossible for me to duplicate myself. [9:00:20 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> If we wish to duplicate the exact set of circumstances that led to the appearance of a duplicate, then that means we'd need to have someone here who will appear in my vision in the same environment that we both are in the present. [9:03:13 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> You're saying we ought to find Ryla. [9:04:06 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> She'd seem to me a good candidate, but any willing volunteer would fill the role. [9:07:14 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne relaxes out of her stance and raises her visor. [9:07:25 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> What a pain. [9:07:28 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne sighs. [9:10:43 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Maybe we could try with an animal? A stray dog or cat? [9:12:03 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I'd rather not pull someone off construction, so perhaps that'll do for now. If things do end up awry then killing one or two dogs won't be much. [9:13:28 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Then I suppose that finding one is the first step. [9:13:55 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow steps out of the tent to try to locate a stray domestic animal. [9:15:46 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d6 + 1d8 + 1 [LCK WLL] Find and animal [9:15:48 PM CST] [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {4}=> 4 + {6}=> 6 + 1 = 11 "[LCK WLL] Find and animal" [9:17:32 PM CST] <[Cy]> [It takes some roaming around in the woods, but Meadow eventually happens across a doe.] [9:19:06 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> It's not exactly what I was hoping for, but this should do fine. [9:22:59 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow takes a breath and focuses her inner sight on seeing the doe walking through the same area in the future. [9:23:01 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 1 [CHA WLL] Future sight [9:23:03 PM CST] [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {7}=> 7 + {6}=> 6 + 1 = 14 "[CHA WLL] Future sight" [9:23:47 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne locks her visor into place and readies herself. [9:28:05 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow looks up from a wobby leaf to see the animal, looming large, stride past and nibble upon some berries growing on an adjacent bush.] [9:29:18 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow twists around to look at herself. [9:31:26 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow twists and sees herself from her own eyes, standing in the woods where she started her vision, Hanne beside her.] [9:36:25 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow looks at Hanne a moment, then refocuses her inner sight on the animal in front of her, but in the future. [9:38:19 PM CST] <[Cy]> [With no way to tell the time from this perch on the rough bark of a nearby tree, Meadow can't tell how far in the future she's seeing, but the deer is still feasting on berries as the last time she looked forward.] [9:39:11 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow attempts to disengage from the bark, spread her wings, and fly to a nearby tree. [9:40:21 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow only manages to disengage from her vision, returning her sight to her own head.] [9:41:26 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow sighs. [9:41:53 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow tries again, putting partiular effort into staying in her own body in the vision. [9:45:40 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow watches her own body stand idly by as she grazes on berries, absentmindedly swishing her short tail. You get a vague feeling that the berries taste rather good, though you can't taste them yourself.] [9:47:07 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow sputters into laughter. [9:47:29 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne grips her sword tightly. [9:49:25 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> You don't see another one of me standing around here, do you? [9:50:58 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne scans her surroundings. [9:51:19 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I do not. [9:52:47 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't think you have anything to worry about. I haven't managed to stay in my own body during my visions. [9:58:16 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> And they've all been very short; only a glimpse, and then the least disturbance returns me to myself. [9:59:13 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> Perhaps your encounter in the office has crippled your ability. [10:00:54 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> I don't think that's the case; I've always had visions like this. The one in the office was of exceptional length and clarity. [10:02:05 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> There was another like it, actually, in that respect, when we first arrived here in Basha's Pass. When I looked into the past to witness the battle people had described, I retained my body, and even took part in it myself. [10:08:00 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> It may be that the potency of the vision I had in the office was one of the key factors in externalizing a part of it. [10:13:26 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow breathes deeply again, and makes another attempt. [10:17:01 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow feels like she's watching a scene, but whenever she attempts to identify what she's actually seeing, she realizes she sees nothing. Nonetheless, Meadow recognizes that the deer has just eaten a cluster of berries adjacent to herself, the force of which causes her to bobble upon her branch.] [10:19:25 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow is shocked by the realization that her turn may be next. [10:21:05 PM CST] <[Cy]> [Meadow tumbles into her own body as her future sight goes dark.] [10:21:35 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow shakes her head, then opens her eyes. [10:21:50 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> It's not working. [10:23:57 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> That's a surprise. [10:25:28 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> !roll 1d20 + 1d8 + 4 [CHA INT] Detect Sarcasm [10:25:30 PM CST] [Multi]_Meadow rolled: {3}=> 3 + {4}=> 4 + 4 = 11 "[CHA INT] Detect Sarcasm" [10:27:06 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> Your confidence in my ability is heartwarming. [10:28:03 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I'm sure it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Will you insist on continuing to stand there failing, or should we return and think of something else? [10:29:41 PM CST] <[Multi]_Meadow> We should go back. We'll have to try again later, when I might be able to manage a stronger vision. [10:30:49 PM CST] <[110]_Hanne> I'm sure you'll do wonderfully. [10:31:25 PM CST] * [110]_Hanne turns to walk back to headquarters. [10:31:41 PM CST] * [Multi]_Meadow turns with her. [10:32:41 PM CST] <[Cy]> ======---ACT VI---======
