    * between 300 and 500 words: Derek Reese is the brother of Kyle Reese and 
the uncle of John Connor. He is from the future and traveled back in time for a 
mission. This mission went awry and now he is with the Connors instead.

Naturally astute, when Derek first went with the Connors, he was not told his 
relation to John at all. However, he figured it out quite quickly. He had 
occasion to reveal this on John's birthday. He did so to help the boy feel 
better about some factors in his life. This is a good example of how Derek 
works. He plays close to the chest. He is naturally aware of when to reveal 
something and when not to and leads his life in such a way. He is also a firm 
believer in everything having its place.

How did Derek end up with the Connors? By being shot many times. They saved his 
life because of who he is and who he is related to. They literally risked life 
and limb for him, evading FBI arrest. He came back in time, partially, to try to 
find his brother Kyle. He did not manage this wish.

He is fiercely devoted to his brother to the point that he nearly committed 
suicide when he was told there was no chance Kyle was coming back.

In the future, he is a part of the resistance, a cornerstone in the fight of 
mankind against the machines. Judgement Day happened and it was a catastrophe 
that wiped out most of the human race. SkyNet took over all the worlds' computer 
systems, and as it has been put, it 'got smart'. Then it decided that everything 
but it was enemies. So it nuked the enemies.

John Connor will lead the resistance and a part of Derek's job is to make sure 
that happens. But the job becomes more and more personal every day, and he is 
seeing hope in them possibly stopping Judgement Day. Perhaps they will. If they 
don't, then they will die trying.
