>I feel like writing this with Anon as a young adolescent displaced in the world. --- >"Anon! Come on, you're gonna be late for school!" >You hear the door swing open as Twilight walks in and levitates your bag. >"Get out of bed! We are NOT doing this again!" >Her hooves grab the sheets and yank them off, leaving you in your pajamas. >You grumble and slowly sit up. "I don't feel good." >Twilight cocked a brow, rolling her eyes. >"It didn't work yesterday, and it won't work today, mister! Get changed! Cheerilee has only so much patience for obnoxious colts!" "But I'm not a colt, Mom!" >You curl up your knees and rest your head on them. >Twilight softens her attitude at your remark. >"Were the other foals teasing you again?" "...Yes." >She looks a bit upset. >"Who was it?" "Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon." >"Those fillies are nothing but trouble! I told you don't worry about them." >You sigh and slowly get out of bed, moving into your small closet to change into your school clothes. >Twilight is waiting at your door to lift your bag over your shoulder. "Mom, why am I different?" >Twilight freezes, looking at you. >"Well, you're just special." "But, I'm not a pony." >"Is that why they were teasing you?" >You nod. >Twilight gives a sigh, moving her head to push you toward your bed. >You move and sit with her. >"I think we should talk about this..." >Twilight brings a hoof around you and pulls you against her gently. >You curl against her for comfort. >"Anon, you're clever... You know-" "Y-You're not my real mom." >Twilight looks like she's been wounded by the truth of the statement. >"Yes, hon. I'm not your biological mother. But I'm still your mother!" >You hug around her and squeeze, burying your face against her neck. >"I wasn't sure when Princess Celestia first told me to raise you as if you were my own foal... She said since I was doing well with Spike a human should be like graduating to the next level..." >You look up to her as her hoof comes down to rub your hair. >"We found you when you were just a baby. I had read books, talked to other mares, I thought I was prepared to be a good mother, for you." >Twilight looks sad. >"It was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I had no idea how it could seem so simple but be so complex." >You lower your head and pull in against her. >Her foreleg tugs you tightly. >"But I did my best to raise you like any other pony. Like Spike, it doesn't matter if you're not a pony. You're still my little colt." "You're a great mom..." >Twilight smiles as a tear runs down her cheek. >"And you're a good son, Anon. Don't think for a second I don't love you any different." >You feel a tug in your chest as you both begin leaking tears. >"And don't let anypony think that I won't protect my foal if they try any funny business." "They called me a 'biped' and say I'll never have a cutie mark." >Twilight rubs your cheek. >"Hey, buck up. Don't be ashamed of who or what you are. Bipedal organisms are amazing! And you might not get a mark, but that doesn't mean you're not naturally really good at something." >You turn your head up to look at her again, sniffling a bit. >"Princess Celestia gave me some books about humans. Things they've done, amazing accomplishments. All without magic! That's what's the most fascinating!" "Like what?" >Twilight shifts off your bed, trotting over to a bookcase. You never did read through some of the odd looking books, but the Daring Do spines that lined the shelves were worn to shreds. >She brings a large encyclopedia over, flipping open to a few marked pages. "What's that?" >"That's the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander. Your people went to the moon in a big ship, all the way up in the sky!" >You recall the legends and old made tales she used to tell you when you were younger. "Did they find Nightmare Moon up there?" >Twilight shook her head. >"No, but they were the first humans to ever leave Earth and bring back something from space. We ponies haven't even done that yet!" >You get a welling up of self esteem as you continue talking with your mom about things humans have accomplished. "Earth... That's where I'm from?" >Twilight winces. >"It's... Where most humans come from. To be honest, sweetie, we don't know how you came to be in Equestria." >You frown. >"But it was one of the best things to ever happen to me." >You feel tears welling up again as she gives you a firm hug. >"Hey now, don't want you going to school all puffy eyes and sniffling." >You wrap your arms around her neck and squeeze. "I love you, Mom." >"I love you too, son." >Twilight teleports you to school after making sure you look good. >You wonder why she makes you walk like everypony else when she can just poof here and there. >You pass Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon on the way inside, keeping your eyes forward with your chin up. >Cheerilee moved your desk up to the front, so she can keep a watchful eye and shush any bullying. >It didn't exactly help, but it was definitely nice to have a bit of support away from Twilight. >DT and SS still manage to be little twats to you despite the move. >You do your best to just sit there and not feed it. >Later at recess, you sit at the bench reading one of the books Twilight had given you. >It was a little difficult muddling through some of the words, but then again what fucking ten year old tries to 'read' an encyclopedia? >Twi's little colt, that's who, mother fucker. >You're sure you've got a bunch of new words to ask Twilight about when you get home. >Suddenly, fillies. >You look up to see Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo hop up on the bench opposite you. >AB "Hey, Anon, we were wonderin'." >SB "Since you don't have a cutie mark either, do you wanna join our club?" "But I'm not a pony." >SL "So?" "I won't ever have one." >AB "But you must have somethin' yer good at that you don't know about, yet!" >SL "Yeah, you haven't even tried stuff! You might have some secret powers or something, even!" >You get a little warm fuzzy feeling inside as the trio start bickering over what you might be good at. "Okay!" >The three fillies freeze. >SL "Okay what?" >They forgot already. Cute. "I'll join your group. It sounds like fun!" >Resume fillies cheering and making a ruckus talking at a mile a minute about all the fun things they're gonna do together. >Cheerilee calls you all back in for class. >You find a note stuffed in the corner of your desk. >"Biped Bookworm" >You see DT and SS snickering off to your side a few rows back. >Not this time. "Ms. Cheerilee!" >"Hmm? What is it, Anon?" >You wave the note to her. >She takes it in her hoof, eyes snapping up as DT and SS immediately freeze and sit properly at their desks, trying to look innocent. >Cheerilee puts the note on her desk, then moved to the chalkboard. >The chalk clacked on the board in the corner as an audible gasp filled the room. >She wrote DT and SS on the board under 'PT Conference' >DT "B-B-But Ms. Cheerilee, we didn't write the note!" >SS "Y-Yeah, somepony else did! We'd never call Anon a biped!" >DT threw a hoof at SS to try and shut her up. >"Both of you, stop! I'm very disappointed in you two. I simply have no more patience for your bullying!" >Cheerilee puts two stools in opposite corners and forces the two fillies to sit facing the walls. >"Now then. Where were we? Oh, yes..." >Cheerilee returns to the lesson about proper manners as you glance between the punished pair of fillies. >Justice, at last. --- >Later that day, you were inducted into the Cutie Mark Crusaders. >Sweetie Belle even made you a cape, albeit more like a cowl or a shawl. >AB "Now that we got openin' ceremonies over and done with, we should get started with our next ideas fer Cutie Marks!" >The fillies throw a hoof up with a cheer. >You join in, late, but eager. >The rest of the day is full of bumps, bruises, scrapes, and awkward positions as you try various activities. >You're pretty okay at most of them, but nothing stellar. >At least you're a little more capable than the other fillies thanks to your anatomy. >Evening rolls around and you return home to Twilight's surprise. >"Anon! What happened?" >You smile brightly and hug around her neck tightly. >Twilight takes a moment to hug back, still surprised. "I had a great day with other ponies! And I made some real friends!" >"I heard that you had some trouble too..." >You nod, but give a squeeze around her. "Yeah, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were really mean, but Cheerilee made them sit in the corner." >Times like this made you wish for everything to stop. >Three days of this living hell. >Twilight had a quill writing a log of your bodily occurrences, sneezing, vomiting, any major symptoms. >She also had a stack of books nearby, some medically relevant, others for your amusement. >You were out of school for the second day this week, a high fever and chills keeping you bedridden among your other symptoms. It was some kind of flu, but how you got sick was the true mystery. >Without other humans how could you have caught a virus? >Twilight's research was mixed between bringing your small trays of food throughout the day, some warm soup and bread with cool ginger ale. >He bedside manner was less than maternal, however, fascinated by your illness. >"Do you think you can do a run on the treadmill so I can get a reading on your heart rate? I need to stress your body for data!" "M-Mom please... It hurts to exist." >Twilight gives a frown, setting down the notepad. >She was still having some trouble shifting into mother mode when new things happened with your body. >Getting so sick you could hardly move was new. >Twilight's horn began to glow and you felt yourself lifting, her magic bringing you up enough for her to tuck you in. >"Try to get some rest, Anon." "Thanks, Mom." >You see her horn flicker for a moment as your eyes fall heavy, then nod off to sleep.
