First I updated my apt lists to this:

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-security main restricted universe multiverse

#deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-proposed main restricted universe multiverse

This did not work, 404 errors abound. Then I downloaded the 10.04 cd to try a local update using the CD. This is failing due to the following errors:

"Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/tmp/tmp.IiVtll5337/lucid", line 3, in <module>
    from DistUpgradeMain import main
  File "/tmp/tmp.IiVtll5337/DistUpgradeMain.py", line 25, in <module>
    import apt
ImportError: No module named apt


I think this is related to the python-apk package being missing, but I have been unsuccessful in getting this installed.
