Bio/Backstory (Include power origins if possible):

nneka was born to nigerian parents in queens nyc as the oldest of three siblings. in general, she grew up with a lot of pressure on her shoulders, and generally had the feeling that she had to prove that all the sacrifices that her family made were worth it. this is not to say that she didn’t have loving parents, her parents loved her and they showed that by having high expectations.   

she went to a ‘rich kid’ private school and was generally a smart, quiet kid who avoided harassment and generally used writing as her creative outlet, only showing her friend ha-jun her poems and he encouraged her to do slam poetry and she fell in love with it, she loved being able to use her voice and say what’s on her mind. 

although slam poetry was nnneka’s safe space, it was also the place she discovered her powers when a fellow poet got too handsy with her and needed to see nneka generate hard light spikes to leave her alone.

at eighteen she and ha-jun were “discovered” and due to them having an underground performance and she was offered a record deal.

originally nneka intended to keep this a secret from her parents but they found out and they had a huge argument but it ended up with them deciding that if nneka went to columbia and graduated they would not complain about her career choice.

now nneka recently graduated from columbia and is a poet and a rapper and is enjoying herself though she is estranged from her parents/
