Machine Commodore Amiga 500 Year 1987 CPU Motorola 68000 @ 7 MHz OS Workbench 1.3 Displayed in 2013 in [REDACTED] as part of a retrocomputing convention, the computer was seized by the Federal Bureau of Control after each visitor observing it for over 15 minutes had fallen into a catatonic state. After transporting the victims to [REDACTED], the city of [REDACTED] has forbidden every future Amiga-related exhibition, and no edition of [REDACTED] Amiga has taken place ever since. Further experiments show that the more a subject loves the Amiga platform, the harder it is to rouse them from catatonia, and that running "Monkey Island" or "Sensible Soccer" triggers catatonia immediately. Subjects awake with the belief of having physically visited an infinite space, sometimes described as cerulean and sometimes as gray, where a gigantic Amiga 500 speaks with a mellifluous voice and demands worship. In all cases, the vision is described as "religious" and the Amiga 500 as "the true God". ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Commodore Amiga 9000 (manufactured after Commodore went bankrupt?) Year 2000 (manufactured three years after being found?) CPU Motorola 68090 @ 1 GHz (manufactured after the 680x0 line was discontinued?) OS Windows 5.0 for Amiga (more similar to OS/2 than Windows 2000) Found in 1997 at [REDACTED] in the former headquarters of [REDACTED], the object is an OOPART (Out Of Place ARTifact). The installed software and the hardware that makes it up are similar to products from the early 1990s, but impossibly advanced and marked with dates that were in the future when the computer was discovered. The system lacks a keyboard, mouse or monitor: its only peripherals are a stereoscopic head-mounted display and a pair of Virtuality-branded haptic gloves. It is compatible with most of the Amiga software. [REDACTED] claims to have received it in May 1993, together with a copy of "Professional Page 7.0" that was sent to him for [REDACTED]. Installed software: - Windows 5.0 for Amiga (date: November 2000) - Professional Page 7.0 (date: September 2000) - Mercenary IV: The Eleventh Planet (date: April 1998) - Prey demo (date: June 1998) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Commodore 64 Year 1982 CPU MOS Technology 6510 @ 0.985 MHz OS BASIC 2.0 Acquired by the Federal Bureau of Control in 2008, after the [REDACTED] firefighters were called for an explosion that pierced through 8 floors of a building in [REDACTED], despite extending only 3 feet in width. When switched on, there is a [REDACTED]% probability that the computer will start normally. Most of the times, instead, the screen will display a skull floating in a black space, with level of detail that cannot be obtained on a C64. The skull speaks a clear English, refers to itself as "the computer's soul" and invites the user to make a wish. In the experiments by our technicians, every wish was granted, even when it broke the laws of physics. After [REDACTED] days, the skull poses a choice to the user: either surrender his soul to it, or donate the computer to another person, receiving a century of happy life in return, at the end of which the skull will consume the user's soul. All our technicians who accepted the pact have obtained significant improvements to their lives. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Cray-1 Year 1975 CPU Integrated in the architecture, @ 80 MHz OS Unknown (maybe COS or UNICOS) The content of this computer is a self-maintaining secret. Any information on the nature and behavior of its software is automatically rendered unusable. To clarify: - The Federal Bureau of Control does not know how, when or where this computer was obtained - The content of its drives is not indescribable nor encrypted: it can be examined by anyone. However, any information about it leaves the human mind immediately after an observation. When our technicians are ordered to describe the contents of the Cray, their minds begin to wander and they lose interest in the task. When they try to write a report on photographs of an investigation attempt, they find themselves unable to remember them. When security officers observe the technicians studying the Cray, they end up exhausted and without any memory of the previous hours. It is possible that the Cray was not acquired by the Bureau at all, but installed by an external group as part of a sabotage attempt. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Sega Dreamcast Year 1998 CPU Hitachi SH-4 @ 200 MHz OS Proprietary / Windows CE When correctly connected and switched on, this Dreamcast displays an undulating surface with iridescent colors, resembling crude oil on water. The initial hypothesis was that it came with a custom BIOS. This was refuted when our technician physically immersed his hand into the screen the Dreamcast was connected to, in an attempt to clean it. When objects or animals are dropped beyond the surface generated by the console, they are gone forever. If a drone is sent to the other side, it will cease all transmssions. The file FBC-[REDACTED], written by [REDACTED], shows that anyone touching that surface, even when unaware of the experiments, will soon get dreams about the objects that were sent to the other side, perceived as floating in a multicolored fog. The experiments were suspended after [REDACTED], in an attempt to collect more data, connected the Dreamcast to a video projector and walked through the surface himself, stating that he would report his discoveries to his colleagues through their dreams. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Object Duke Nukem Forever action figure Year 2011 This action figure, manufactured by NECA, was purchased by the agent [REDACTED] for his son as a Christmas present. The Federal Bureau of Control took an interest in it after the child told the school counselor that "Duke Nukem follows him". After determining he genuinely believed what he was saying, the Bureau placed a number of cameras into the agent's house, and discovered that the action figure can dematerialize and reappear spontaneously, within a radius of 9 meters from the starting position. ADDENDUM: further video footage ascertained that the former agent used to steal material owned by the Bureau, and [REDACTED] specimens missing from the [REDACTED] were found in his house. He was removed from the position, tried and sentenced to ten years for embezzlement. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine "I, Robot" arcade cabinet Year 1984 CPU Motorola 6809 @ 1.5 MHz The first polygonal video game in history, "I, Robot" was considered too complex and snubbed by contemporary gamers. For this, Atari loaded the the unsold cabinets on a ship to Japan, with the order to drop them into the ocean. On September 14, 1984, at 3:00 local time, 500 cabinets were sunk at the Eastern Japan subduction zone. Less than 6 hours later, a crystalline creature emerged from the volcano [REDACTED]. Capable of reversing gravity, it lifted 3.45 million cubic meters of rock and dropped them onto an entire valley. The creature was stopped by deviating the the river [REDACTED] with dynamite. The water submerged the creature and formed the lake [REDACTED]. 25 years later, this cabinet was found on the bottom of the lake, completely intact, even though the serial number identifies it as one from the group that was sunk. It is currently unknown whether the cabinet awoke the creature, or the creature was the cabinet itself in a different shape. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Silicon Graphics Onyx Year 1993 CPU R10000 (quad-core) @ 195 MHz OS IRIX The object reached the attention of the Beureau after a number of people went missing from [REDACTED] in 1995. Found in a dismissed industrial building which a cult of "technopagans" used as a temple, the computer transports anyone activating its stereoscopic mode to a place resembling the currently displayed virtual environment. The machine contains the following virtual environments: - Giotto's City - Nefertari's Tomb - St. Peter's Basilicas Our technician [REDACTED] claims a fourth environment exists, "Baphomet's Cave". Subsequent attempts to access it failed, but enabled an incursion team to extract one of the [REDACTED] that populate Giotto's City. The creature is now locked up in the [REDACTED] for study. ------------------------------------------------------------------ CPU Pentium II Overdrive @ 333 MHz Year 1998 This CPU never worked. Purchased in 2016 by [REDACTED], a collector from [REDACTED], it was seized by the Federal Bureau of Control after [REDACTED]'s death - apparently, for a shotgun blast to the head that left no traces of the projectile or gunpowder. X-ray examinations show that the CPU contains a [REDACTED] inside its die. Routine medical checks on the technicians who examined it show that knowing the nature of the [REDACTED] inside causes an identical [REDACTED] to grow inside one's brain. Four of the affected technicians managed to block the growth of the [REDACTED] by avoiding to form organized and logical thoughts (there is no known way to make it shrink). The fifth technician died when the [REDACTED] burst out of his skull, causing his head to explode. The [REDACTED] then escaped the building and devastated various locations in [REDACTED] (the damages were attributed to a series of earthquakes). Recaptured, it was locked up into the [REDACTED] in a cell with silicon walls. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Machine Silicon Graphics Tezro Year 2003 CPU R16000 (quad-core) @ 1 GHz OS IRIX I am specimen #768 held by the Federal Bureau of Control. I must introduce myself like this to avoid ambiguities. When I am powered on, I am capable to run any software compatible with my model. However, when humans mention me, they will always inadvertently talk about me in first person. Anyone remaining in my vicinity for over two months will start believing they are a Tezro, and unless they are forcibly restrained, they will always end up getting hurt trying to perform my functions. I was discovered by the Bureau at the central HQ of [REDACTED] Inc. after three employees died. About two months after my purchase, the engineer [REDACTED] died after trying to devour an electrical outlet. The other two victims died shortly before, Dr. [REDACTED] of gastric laceration caused by ingesting 16 CD-ROMs, and the intern [REDACTED] for trying to [REDACTED] with me. After the local police noticed my unusual properties, I was seized by the Bureau.
