Once upon a time, he was fourth. A terrible accident at a summer keep near the town of Ironclaw tragically ended the life of his older brother, Galmund. While Aland was back then only 5 years of age, he saw Galmund's fiery death with his own eyes. This trauma weights on him even today, and he freezes at the sight of big open fires, be they natural, artificial or magical in origin. But still, he has grown into a fine young man and excellent duelist, and his mentors noted that while his administrative and ministerial skills are lacking, he will make a great commander and soldier one day. Aland is fine with this; his eldest brother Cymon is by himself a capable administrator, while the second in the line, Seleth, is a great warrior and shrewd politician. Only a disaster or some other cruelty of fate could propel Aland to inherit the throne, but of course, the chances for that are slim, and Aland does not worry.
