  1. T1: Winter 229
  2. We assumed power in Ferrohead after the death of Sector Governor Davis. Broadsheets reported she had died from heart failure, but the unofficial investigation found traces of an unidentified substance in her food. Someone wanted her gone. It could have been Merillo; their so-called President responded to her death by pressing border claims and strengthening their presence on the frontier with Ferrohead. There's also been whispers of an independence movement on the south shore. The timing is suspicious. In any case, she's gone, and it's time to start undoing the damage her decades of isolationist policies have done.
  3.
  4. Our first act was to review the state of the militia and security forces. They're disgraceful. Unit discipline is low, forces are ill-equipped, and even the activated portions of the Civil Guard and police forces are using decades-old rifles. We've ordered a general mobilization and institution of a draft; the reserve elements of the Guard are even more poorly provisioned than the regulars, but they'll let us re-assert our presence in the border towns.
  5.
  6. Director Ironhall, still stinging from the Justice Knights' failure to form a majority in the Nominal Assembly and name the new Governor, protested the martial measures and sought to use his position at the head of the Council to prevent it. We were quick to quash that, but his protestations were echoed throughout the administration. As a result, we asserted our prerogatives and demanded his resignation. As the Sector Governor had not intervened in planetary administration to this degree throughout her entire tenure, there were formal protests and a small wave of resignations from Justice Knights administrators within the bureaucracy. However, the party leadership does not seem pleased with his failures and he might not survive this fall from power.
  7.
  8. We have launched a reform project to decentralize the government and begin to re-assert our control over the planet. We cannot sit in Ferrohead and act like the Republic has been reduced to two districts and a lake. We owe it to the people of this sector to bring back peace and stability, and the first step of that is to reinforce administrative services in Efario. This will also help legitimatize Governor Robinnight's authority, which has not been wildly accepted in the outlying towns.
  9.
  10. Finally, as the month rounded to a close, we dispatched surveyors to several sites identified as possible mineral and oil deposits. If we are going to bring peace to this world, we will need to do it with steel and fire, and for that, we will need resources.
  11.
  12.
  13. T2: Late Winter 229
  14. Director Ironhall has not accepted his fall from grace without a fight. When the Council reconvened to elect his replacement, he first sought to reclaim his position, and while we convinced the Councilors to vote down his measure, the Justice Knights forcefully protested and demanded we appoint his assistant M. Kryptonmore to replace him. While we respect M. Kryptonmore, we cannot allow Justice Knights to dictate our agenda. We instead nominated a compromise candidate in the form of Colonel Chambers, an apolitical career officer in the militia. He agreed to resign his commission from the Civil Guard and join the Council. As he is widely respected and both decorated and apolitical, the Council accepted him and most of the Justice Knights even voted for him. In no small part, this was due to Governor Robinnight of Ferrohead's machinations within that party; it appears M. Ironhall has lost control of it and has been reduced to a backbencher. Governor Robinnight will be a problem for us in the future, but we cannot afford to anger her at the moment, and in fact have reached a tentative agreement to offer M. Ironhall a Civil Guard commission to get him out of both of our ways. Director Chambers agreed in private to the necessity of our reformist agenda, and promised to use the support personnel we seconded him from our personal staff to facilitate our plans.
  15.
  16. The bureaucracy is energized. Both the Economic and Military Directorates of the Technology Bureau have shown a renewed effort to develop new ideas and re-discover technologies lost over the past 200 years since the Fall. We're somewhat concerned about the leadership of the Military Directorate, as Director Silimoon was appointed by SG Davis for what were widely seen as political reasons, and is showing resistance to restructuring and expanding research programs. He insists our current forces have kept us safe for the last century, and that there are no new threats to cause such radical, expensive reforms. We are considering replacing him, but after the blowback from forcing out M. Ironhall, we will need to move slowly. In the mean time, we will consider dispatching an Inspector General to audit the Directorate.
  17.
  18. A representative from the Pemanis Confederation arrived and demanded that we dispatch another round of "reparations". We have been paying them for over 50y since they bloodily seceded. No more. We told them that Davis was gone, and there would be no more extortion. The envoy threatened us, and was expelled. They promised war as they were thrown out. Let the rebels in the south deal with them; unless they rediscover flight we'll not see them any time soon.
  19.
  20. Governor Orosisong has formally requested we commitment to develop infrastructure in Efario to meet its expanding population and responsibilities, but with the Council still in turmoil we cannot address it at this time. She was disappointed, but accepted our assurance that we would dispatch administrators as soon as they were available. She is a far more useful ally than Robinnight.

  53.
  54.
  55. T6: Fall 229
  56. CPT Hagan, most decorated cadet in our military academy in decades, completes staff training and enters service. We do not want to waste her talents on the front lines and begin to plot to establish a new administrative position for her. The most tempting options are to formalize administrative roles within the staff officers, or to attempt to force out Gov. Robinnight and install CPT Hagan as governor of the capital
  57. First phase of Bureaucratic reforms are complete; accountability audits ensure paper trails throughout

  78. M. Kryptonmore appointed to replace M. Silimoon in the Military Directorate; hopefully this will placate the JK. It certainly placated him.
  79. CPT Hagan accepted our offer of governorship of Ferrohead.
  80. 2nd phase of bureaucratic reform is bearing fruit as more accomplished administrators and envoys are beginning to undertake projects and reforms on their own. We will hopefully be able to promote some to leadership in the near future.
  81. Vofarar is trying to sell us more slaves. JKs are furious we're letting them continue to enslave Republic citizens even though we haven't had control of those territorys in decades. We will refuse even though the slavers will probably use this as an excuse for war. COL Robinnight condemned our actions and demanded we liberate the Republic citizens by force even though several thousand Merillo troops stand b/tw them and us.
  82. --
  83. Heavy losses in Merillo; retaliatory shelling of Verdun commences
  84. AIs still kill us in the EZ at will. 3rd Civil Support BN has arrived at the front with field artillery; hopefully this will prove sufficient to overcome the killing machines.

  207. DP pressures us to appoint CPT Gorgonea to command of Civil Guard; while she is not a competent commander, she is an expert in small-group tactics and has personally commanded units through numerous firefights. Perhaps she will last longer than her predecessors?
  208. --

  234.
  235. T27: Fall 232
  236. DP easily wins senatorial elections, though their support has fallen to 62%
  237. Scouts have pushed out beyond our frontiers. There's a lot of radiation out there. One group found a pre-fall power plant in the eastern Exclusion Zone, but it's unlikely they'll make it out of the zone before succumbing. Rad filter production has been made a state emergency
  238. Field tests of anti-armor tanks generally negative; it appears unlikely they will be practical to field without serious overhauls even if the engine is significantly improved compared to existing armor
  239. --
  240. Sodifortian maneuver elements succeed in outflanking and cutting off the entire Civil Guard. We have re-established a very narrow re-supply corridor, but it will not stay open w/o reinforcements. We have scrambled a Sentinel group plus two hastily-militarized scout troops and a mobile element of Efario's militia to attempt to rescue the 2CG BDE.
  241. 3LS BDE continues to push back Vofaran slavers, but they are now deep into the Vofarar EZ. Rad levels are dangerously high. Protective filters are estimated to be deployed next month, but we will likely see casualties from this campaign for years to come

  262. Scouts in Sun EZ succumbed to rad poisoning; DP and JK expressed extreme disappointment at our failure to safely extract them from the EZ
  263. M. Hamillord appointed into administration in an at-large IG position; while it seems a waste to ignore his long experience in investigation and protocol, we will probably tap him to head a new Applied Sciences Directorate
  264. --
  265. Sentinel units on west front destroyed in combat with Sodifortan regulars
  266. Flanking Yorkies have been encircled, but they responded by digging in and successfully resisted our assaults; as such, supply lines remain tenuous and we have been pushed back from York

  298. Mil Directorate prototypes close-in armor that should make armored vehicles more secure against combined arms
  299. Econ directorate completes a long project to implement water purification systems. Arguably, this was a waste of effort that'd've been better spent finding new areas of study, but the project kept our researchers busy and may open up areas of research in the future. Additionally, scouring the archives now prevented an embarrassing outcome later when we might turn up GR records of this technology
  300. Diplomatic overtures to Asolar, Blackbond, and Highmount prove inconclusive
  301. Another advanced research facility is constructed in Ferrohead
  302. Broad civil service policies ensuring equitable outcomes are implemented; there is discontent about this in the Administration as it is perceived as betraying meritocratic principles
  303. --
  304. Estimated ~2k slavers remain in Vofarar

Beckett needs to be replaced. We announced the launch of a general initiative to expand the size of the administration, and will attempt to use this as a pretense to eliminate him
  429. Nationalized mine in Efario, and began construction of a new one. Blackbond's immanent fall underscores the necessity of developing our industrial base to meet the threat posed by the League
  430. Roadbuild into the heart of rebel-held territory in southern Efario continues, with the ultimate goal of reaching the southern protectorates before the League does
  431. --
  432. Pemani breakout attempts from the developing cordon around Boston are bloody failures; invading forces respond by counterattacking. Counterattack pushes all the way through the city. Pemanis Confederation is no more.

  540.
  541. T61: Late Summer 237
  542. Roadbuild to Wetterholt cut off by bandits; however, Wetterholt and Belgica agree to formalize re-integration regardless of the logistics delay. In Belgica's case, it is over the objections of their nominal ruler, who is deposed by the newly-re-established District Assembly. Both districts mobilize their armies - now district militias - to repulse the marauding bandits and secure the newly-unified borders.
  543. Broad logistics breakdown through GR territory. No single cause can be identified; we suspect rebel sabotage, possibly with League support.

  612. League forces roll out heavier AA batteries and inflict moderate casualties against our unsuccessful sorties
  613.
  614.
  615. T69: Fall 238
  616. Corrupt officials sold off food reserves two months ago; as a result, at least 10000 regulars and militia troops starved to death or deserted to avoid doing so. This is absolutely devastating, and military morale has never been lower. We can only hope we will recover enough that we will be prepared in a few short months to repel League forces that near our borders.

  636. Belgica has made great strides in expanding its administrative capabilities
  637. --
  638. Air forces report heavy losses

  678.
  679.
  680. T76: Fall 239
  681. Zimmer Corp scientists share technology for small, single-person armored hydraulic walkers. If we can roll this out to our forces, we can flip the League's infantry advantage on its head.
  682. --
  683. GR nuke deployed against 44MG, 5iLIN, 2iLArm, 1iMAA resulting in minimal casualties; followup air raid on HQ 9MG, HQ 10MG, and II Corps (IN) also inconclusive, but the flak was disrupted enough that our air assets suffered no losses

  690. Lessons learned in developing armored exoskeletons is backfitted to our current, lighter armor; we hope to have an improved interim infantry model ready next turn to be adopted en masse while we struggle to outfit our frontline units with advanced armor, and that can later be used for militia forces... if there is a later...

  730. A dark time, and probably the beginning of the end; in total, over 12k GR troops died this month. Most were militia, but regulars did little better
  731. Boston falls to 18k League infantry, 360 APCs, and 100 mixed tanks; 3.5k GR infantry die during the defense
  732. HQs and remaining (consolidated) elements of 1MP and 2CG from Boston attempt to break out and move back towards friendly lines; this will likely prove impossible; 1UHIN & 2UHIN BNs remain behind with militia elements to try to delay League forces and give those withdrawing a chance
  733. 3LS BDE upgraded in line with its conceptual TOE; this puts a good deal more anti-tank artillery between League armor and Gapwhite
  734. Combat helicos and CAS bombers destroy heavy armor formations near the Thomper EZ strongpoint; troops withdraw towards redoubt and/or redeploy back across the pass to defend its supply lines
  735.
  736.
  737. T80: Early Summer 240
  738. In what may prove to be a costly mistake, the Operations & Doctrine Directorate convinces the Engineering Directorate to spend a month on a crash program to refit aging prop fighter-bombers with heavy loads of missiles and rockets
  739. M. Cretahall hastily commissioned as a COL and installed in command of 6RSC
  740. 7LS BDE raised to secure the pinch point between Gapwhite and Ferrohead
  741. All fixed-wing air assets rebased to Ferrohead
  742. MilDir projects prototype of laser rifles to be available next month; an emergency rollout plan will follow, with the decision between light and heavy infantry being made depending on manning at the time
  743. 4FB Squadron folded into 3FB Wing; 8FB Wing constituted as a short-range defense force in case the lines push closer to Ferrohead
  744. Recruitment stepped up in Gapwhite, as well as refugee evacuation
  745. --
  746. 10k GR infantry, 100 guns, and 70 tanks fell (including the just-promoted COL Wallcrest), taking 3.6k League infantry and 20 tanks with them during their latest offensive
  747. Skirmishes and clearing operations continue in the south and west
  748.
  749.
  750. T81: Late Summer 240
  751. Laser rifle prototypes are complete; the process revealed possibilities for both optimizing them and developing larger versions of them. EngDir will begin work on the former, and MilDir on the latter
  752. Superior versions of unpropelled anti-tank guns have been developed and coupled with defensive doctrine better exploiting their operators' use of powered armor
  753. A recruitment push among reserve and militia elements identified 3 junior officers with strong command potential. CPT Hydrus, CPT Ursus, and LNT Etherland are frocked COL pending the raising and deployment of new formations for them using the modernization doctrines currently being developed
  754. Zimmer Corp unsurprisingly reveals they have worked out the basics of nuclear power and share their research with us
  755. --
  756. What hell have we wrought? Zimmer's infernal devices have brought us some degree of parity with the League, but at what cost? We lost 9k infantry, 80 guns, and 130 tanks to kill 8k League infantry and 200 tanks. Gapwhite is cut off from Ferrohead, and will likely not be able to survive the coming siege
