  1. >Susie and Kris get a used car
  2. >It's a horrid, truly horrid piece of shit car, but it's what they could afford with what shit jobs they could find in Hometown
  3. >Doors you gotta slam afew times to shut right, roof upholstery held up by thumb tacks, they jiggle the keys before trying to starting her up for good luck
  4. >Huge holes at the base of each seat but that was something they did themselves to accommodate Susie's stumpy tail
  5. >Cherished all the same by the two of them, an escape out from suffocating smallness of Hometown
  6. >They left it at Susie's place, didn't want Toriel to knowjust how badly the brakes squeal
  7. >They keep each other in the loop when they're taking it out for a spin, friendly reminders becoming invitations to come along for a ride as night fell
  8. >Susie was a fan of late night joyrides when Hometown's streets were empty, and the few times they got caught speeding Undyne let them off the hook
  9. >Susie was the only one who ever took Undyne's "extreme" drivers lessons, her prize student
  10. >Susie was probably the only one in town who couldve passed her lessons too
  11. >Kris though, prefers more pensive drives at night.
  12. >Long hauls to weird little places two or three towns over, or just big trips that never really goes anywhere
  13. >It was already pretty late when Kris called Susie to let her know he was going on a drive
  14. >Like, actually called her. Not just a text.
  15. >Just about to sleep but wondering what was chewing at Kris, Susie decides to accompany the freak, throwing on a pair of jeans over her sweatpants pajamas and grabbing a heavy coat many sizes too big for her.
  16. >They found the coat at a thrift store one day and mystified that it was too big for Susie, and seemed like it would even be big on Kris' dad, they bought it.
  17. >It was a warm ass coat and considering that the AC was just as busted as the rest of the car, deeply needed on the cold midwinter night
  18. >So thats what she wore as she waited on her porch, hands deep in coat pockets trying to keep warm
  19.
  20. >Doesn't take Kris long, must've already been walking over already when he called
  21. >He's also significantly less dressed for the weather despite having walked over here.
  22. >"Trying to get in character for your Pizza job freak?"
  23. >"Just had to be over here quick, I guess"
  24. >They get in without saying much else, Kris rubbing his arms and shuddering alittle, trying to get warm.
  25. >Ever his mother's son, he turns to Susie and tells her to buckle up, fishing around for something in the door compartment
  26. >She snorts a laugh out at him as he fumbles with a bobby pin, trying to keep his bangs out of his face.
  27. >"I dont think Ive ever worn one, why should I start now?"
  28. >He stops, red eyes looking up at nothing as he tries to remember
  29. >"You're right, I think. As far as I've seen anyway." He goes back to getting situated, adjusting the rear view mirror a tad, shifting the seat forward from where Susie had it.
  30. >He reaches his final step, holding his breath as he jiggles the key a tad and turns it in the ignition, waiting hopeful for...
  31. >A satisfied sigh as the car growls to life, accompanied by Susie yawning as she reclined her seat as far back as she could
  32. >"Lemme know when we get wherever your nerd head wants to get to"
  33. >Kris mutters an "alright" at her as they pull out of the driveway, turning the radio on low and tuned to a local station
  34. >She dozed off pretty quick, staring at trees while quiet music plays is pretty condusive to that.
  35. >Wouldn't stay asleep for long though, and Kris was still at the wheel when she woke.
  36. >She peered around and took note of afew things
  37. >He seemed more relaxed at the wheel by now, glancing at the clock let her see that she had been asleep for maybe half an hour.
  38. >She also noticed a small cup of coffee in his cup holder, did he stop somewhere for it.
  39. >There's also a slim jim in her cupholder
  40. >Nice
  41. >Squinting, she also sees that he put some gas in.
  42. >Bastard. It was her turn.
  43. >Granted it was also her turn the last three times he filled it.
  44.
  45. >Susie shifting about and craning her neck didn't go unnoticed.
  46. >Kris turned his head towards her just a tad, turning down the radio alittle
  47. >"Sorry I woke you"
  48. >"I got you a snack though"
  49. >Susie groaned a tad as she sat up just abit.
  50. >"I noticed. It's not even the good stuff, but I'll take it as forgiveness for waking me"
  51. >She peeled back the wrapper and shoved the whole stick in her mouth, then stretched out as much as the dragongirl could in her seat.
  52. >It was a slim chance that anything Kris was doing actually woke her up, she didn't even think he had turned up the music.
  53. >She chuckled about 'Slim chance' for a moment
  54. >Swallowing his peace offering she sat back alittle and looked at Kris, trying and failing to get a look at his eyes, and then broke the silence.
  55. >"Know where we're going yet pinhead?"
  56. >"What? Oh. Uh..."
  57. >He was paused, staring ahead. Then he coughed
  58. >"No. I keep figuring it'll come to me. It uh, hasn't yet."
  59. >Susie was less than thrilled at that
  60. >"Do you want to talk about whats eating you?"
  61. >He stayed silent, so she poked it again
  62. >"If you've got some weird human parasite thing you gotta tell me freak. I'm not gonna die of mad human disease for you."
  63. >Her goading worked, enough to get a chuckle, atleast
  64. >"I think I'm at greater risk of getting some wierd parasite from you, but uh"
  65. >Kris stiffened abit
  66. >"I'll tell you about it when we get wherever. I'm still thinking on it myself"
  67. >Susie scoffed and laid back again
  68. >"Well turn the radio up then, I can barely sleep with how loud the gears in your head are turning."
  69. >Kris laughed alittle more as he turned up the radio abit to accommodate her, sipping from his coffee as she tried to get back to sleep
  70. >"And wake me whenever we get 'wherever', alright?"
  71. >"Alright."
  72.
  73. >When Susie woke up again, the fucker had lied.
  74.
  75. >Susie stumbled out of the car with all the elegance of someone who just slept in a car for the better part of two hours and a stiff neck, looking around wherever Kris decided "wherever" was going to be.
  76. >Which happened to be the lake.
  77. >Susie was abit more than annoyed at this decision, grumbling as she looked around for the little shit.
  78. >It wasnt that the lake wasn't special or meaninful to the two of them, anything but.
  79. >It was the fact that it was a closer walk from Kris' house than it was from his house to hers was the annoyance.
  80. >She spied the freak sitting on their bench at the lake, all hunched over.
  81. >As quietly as she could she crept over to huddled mass, expecting him to be sobbing from what she could see.
  82. >Concern turnt to relief when she got close enough to realize he was just shivering.
  83. >He was enough of a pretentious idiot to actually sit around freezing just so he could be all cool and thinky after all
  84. >"Hey freak, having fun there or is your ass actually froze down to the seat"
  85. >Kris heard the car door shut but still jumped alittle at her voice
  86. >"No, atleast I dont think..."
  87. >Kris made alittle show out of scootching on the bench
  88. >"Not frozen yet, nope."
  89. >They shared a laugh as Susie stepped around to the front of the bench but she didn't sit, just looked out over the half frozen lake with him
  90. >"So you wasted my time driving halfway to Coalsburgh and back to drive five minutes away, huh?"
  91. >Kris laughed away his embarrassment
  92. >"Yeah I guess it did kinda end up like-"
  93. > His sentence cut short by Susie hoisting him up to be eye level with the lizard with a toothy snarl. Not that far, she just barely had a head on him nowadays, but it was still jarring.
  94. >"You know what I do to people who waste my time?"
  95. >Susie let the threat air for a minute.
  96. >Waiting for the quiet kid to say something
  97. >"N-no I d-"
  98. >Exactly what the lizard was waiting for.
  99. >Susie had caught Kris offguard when she lifted him from his seat, and she managed to do it again when did the exact opposite.
  100. >She sat, as fast as she could, and brought Kris with her, engulfing him in the enormous coat, huddled up together.
  101. >Susie reveled in the moment of shock and awe, Kris sat there for a moment before he fully caught up with what she had done
  102. >"Smooth moves there, really had me going"
  103. >The two of them shifted abit, getting comfortable where they sat, Susie stretching her neck abit, still stiff.
  104. >They sat in silence for awhile before Kris started talking, telling Susie about the argument he had with his mom that night
  105. >Susie sat there, nodding along, enjoying the warmth trapped between the two as he spoke.
  106. >When they decided to finally drive back the sun was threatening to rise, neither of them all too willing to be awake when it did.
  107. >Kris was pretty sure she slept on him while they were sitting there too
  108. >By the time they pulled into Susie's driveway, squealing brakes setting off her neighbors pet into a frenzy, neither of them wanted more than a warm bed.
  109. >So responding to his mother's several "Where are you" messages with a heavily delayed "Susie's" and an "I'm sorry", the two fell into bed
