  1. >filename syntax & leading 0
  2. i tagged all of my filenames the way itunes does, so ex. "02 Jeff.flac". in mp3tag this would be tag -> filename "$num(%track%,2) %title%" and for multi-disc tracks it would be "%discnumber%-$num(%track%,2) %title%" **this is formatted so that it will generate a leading 0 even if the track field has a single digit, and yea i think tracks 1-9 should have leading 0s**
  3. (and this would be using title and track numbers that are already tagged for those fields so they can't be blank)
  4.
  5. >disc number w/ one disc
  6. yea i don't b/c itunes doesn't
  7.
  8. >multi-disc folder
  9. i used to but again, itunes just denotes a 1-02, 2-02 etc per disc and i find that easier to deal with. (also please never apend the disc number to the album name, i have no idea why some people do this)
  10.
  11. >album art size
  12. i use 800x800 though lots of what i have is 700x700 because that's what bandcamp uses (also i save jpeg quality at level 85 but maybe use 90 to be safe)
  13.
  14. >features
  15. they usually end up in the artist tag for me, and i've paid less attention to this but if i were to set a rule i'd prefer "feat.", and i tend to see multiple artists either separated with " , " or " / ", not usually " ; ", off the top of my head i would separate multiple artists with " , " and features specifically with " / ", ie. a film score with multiple composers would be separated with " , "
  16. also i use the singular "album artist" tag a lot since itunes likes to split up albums if there are multiple artists.
  17. >one main cover and each track having an individual cover
  18.
  19. so i haven't run into this issue specifically, i know that you can have multiple "pages" for album art being embedded but i have no idea how that would render from player to player. my instinct would be to embed album art for each indivudual track where it's unique and have a "cover.jpg" or "folder.jpg" in the same folder as the album for the overall cover, pretty sure this approach works in foobar2000 but this is something that would be highly dependent on what player you're using (itunes completely ignores art that's not embedded into the file, for example)
  20.
  21. >embedded in FLAC & cover included w/ files
  22. i do this and have a "cover.jpg" file in the album folder, if only for the sake of making sure whatever player i throw my music into will display properly
  23.
  24. >embedded art same as file
  25. i've actually been thinking about changing the way i do this, since currently my cover.jpg is the same exact file as embedded, but going out and finding higher resolution covers for everything would be a major PITA for me (though i do have some albums that are CD rips and i keep full resolution versions of their art & inserts in a "Scans" folder, so you could probably do something like that) & the reason i have the "cover.jpg" file the same is basically completely out of convenience for me b/c i can get all of my album art, resize en masse to 800x800 jpegs (i use a program called faststone image resizer but i think it's windows only) and i can use mp3tag to attach album art to every album at the same time, it has an option called "import cover from file" and if every album has a "cover.jpg" file in its directory that makes it a mostly painless process.
  26.
  27. >bemani, vidya osts
  28. every soundtrack i have's genre is just "Soundtrack", using anything more precise is more of a hassle to me and i don't really use the genre tag anyway. and yeah for video game OSTs i set the album artist to the developer (or whatever team is most closely associated with it) so KONAMI, Sonic Team, etc. and more precise tags can be in the artist field (i dislike lobbing everything into various artists)
  29. also if its available to you i highly suggest using foobar2000s "sanitize tags" feature since it can get rid of weird tertiary tags that lots of sites like to add, you can specify what tag fields you'd like it to keep and it wipes everything else, very handy.
