  1. (19:29:42) nick: did you see dying man mccain decided not to play politics for once
  2. (19:29:50) Turk: what happened
  3. (19:29:55) Turk: mccain is a good man from what i can garner
  4. (19:30:02) nick: mccain is not a good man
  5. (19:30:21) nick: he is a politician and does all of the things you expect politicians to do
  6. (19:30:30) nick: lying and corruption, etc.
  7. (19:30:56) Turk: but he was nice about obama that one time
  8. (19:31:04) nick: but maybe because he thinks he's dying he did right by the people of america and stuck to his word
  9. (19:31:36) nick: the republicans had been trying to get enough votes to start debate procedures on a bill to repeal obamacare
  10. (19:32:08) nick: mccain flew back from his eye surgery (where he learned he has invariably fatal brain cancer) to push the procedural vote through to allow the debate to begin
  11. (19:32:40) nick: but he made this "impassioned" speech about how none of the ideas put put forth at that time were good enough, and that he wouldn't vote for any of them
  12. (19:33:02) nick: and that the senate needed to stop playing political games and come up with a good bill that would fix problems for the people
  13. (19:33:14) Turk: gg
  14. (19:33:40) nick: but then during the week, there were smybolic votes that needed 60 yes votes to pass (there are only 52 republicans) that mccain voted yes on
  15. (19:33:53) nick: like he voted yes on an outright repeal of obamacare
  16. (19:34:04) nick: so the liberal media were pillorying him for being his standard hypocritical self
  17. (19:34:12) nick: saying one thing, but then toeing the party line and fucking over the common man
  18. (19:34:28) nick: but then when the senate finally got down to the version of the vote that only needed 50 yes votes
  19. (19:35:12) nick: (it needs fewer because it was a bill of more limited scope that could be passed under some procedure called "budget reconciliation", who knows what that is, needless to say it's some bullshit loophole the senate uses to do bullshit that can't be filibustered and only needs a bare majority to pass)
  20. (19:35:38) nick: two female republican senators voted no, as they had promised all along
  21. (19:36:02) nick: it was assumed everyone else would vote yes, they'd get the 50, and the veep (as "president of the senate") would break the tie for 51/101, a bare majority
  22. (19:36:07) nick: but he's only allowed to vote when there are ties
  23. (19:36:21) nick: but mccain shockingly voted no
  24. (19:36:49) nick: and the budget reconciliation loophole bullshit version of the repeal bill (which wouldn't have technically repealed obamacare, but would have fucked it regardless) that only needed 50 votes ... only had 49 votes
  25. (19:37:04) Turk: gg
  26. (19:37:05) nick: game over
  27. (19:39:32) nick: so for once he told the truth, and it kiiiind of even looks like maybe this was his plan all along, and he's sending a big fuck you to trump and the republican leadership in congress
  28. (19:40:00) nick: like, he showed up, voted for debate, voted yes on all the symbolic votes that couldn't pass because they needed 60
  29. (19:40:04) nick: sang his song
  30. (19:40:25) nick: and then stabbed mitch mcconnell, the head republican senator, in the back
  31. (19:40:36) nick: i mean, it sure kind of looks like that
  32. (19:40:38) nick: who knows though
  33. (19:40:50) Turk: (19:29:55) Turk: mccain is a good man from what i can garner
  34. (19:40:55) nick: he's not, though
  35. (19:41:03) nick: but he did a good thing here
  36. (19:41:09) nick: maybe because he's dying
  37. (19:44:13) Turk: his final act equilbrises ita ll
  38. (19:44:20) Turk: maybe he chose palin and dunked to obama on purpose
  39. (19:44:26) nick: lol
