Hypothesis

While there are numerous studies on uptalk, including causes, impact, and perceptions, and numerous studies on language development and children’s behaviors, little research has been conducted on the impact of uptalk on young children’s behavior. If a parent or caregiver decreases the use of uptalk and increases the use of directives stated with authority and clarity, then the instance of a child’s resistance and negative behavior will decrease.
