  1. HOW DO I FIGHT HORSE ??:
  2. 1: Gather the necessary files, you're going to need Tribute Edition and the most recent version of Telepone. Links below.
  3.
  4. Tribute Edition: http://tinyurl.com/TributeEdtion-Version-1
  5. Telepone: http://www.gamearchaeology.com/Telepone.html
  6.
  7. 2: Extract the Tribute Edition and extract Telepone.
  8.
  9. 3: For ease of directory making, move the Tribute Edition extracted folder into the Telepone folder. Your Telepone folder should look like this now:
  10.

  12.
  13. 4: Run Telepone (It's not a virus, I promise). It should look something like this:
  14.
  15. http://i.imgur.com/DRZ87CN.png
  16.
  17. 5: Input the server name or address in the server field and set your radio button to Client if you are simply connecting to an existing server. As a default, we are going to connect to Squirrelnet. If you are connecting to a server with a site name (e.g. squirrelnet.dyndns.org) and not a string of numbers, please check the DNS box. Startup should now look like this:
  18.

  20.
  21. 6: Set your username by going to the User Profile tab. Here is where you set your Name, Region, and Extra Info. An example is shown here:

  24.
  25. If you want to display a message after every match, there is the GG message field, which does exactly that. Minimum seconds is the minimum amount of time that a match has to be active before the GG message appears.
  26.

  28.
  29. You only need to worry about welcome message and IP change if you're going to be hosting a server, which will be covered later (probably). You should now be clear to click OK and connect to the server.
  30.
  31.
  32. 7: If this is the first time you've ever used Telepone, this message box should pop up:
  33.
  34. http://i.imgur.com/UlQfV4u.png
  35.
  36. Which leads us to settings! Here, we need to set the file path to the executable of the game. This file, wherever you have it located:

  40.
  41. 8: You don't need to worry about anything else in the General, Performance, or Sounds tab for now, so onto Games where settings that matter need to get set. The title bar checkboxes are mostly self-explanatory, with Match count giving you the current set score since the match started. Next, set Max Stage # to 1, Random Stage to 1, Rounds to 3, and Match Timer to 99. It should look mostly similar to the settings listed here, though I put my preferences in on top of what I'm listing here.:
  42.

  44.
  45. [As a note, Battle Stage and Random Stage are the same setting, just re-named.]
  46.
  47. 9: Moving onto the colors tab, here's an key as to what all the different colors Telepone uses for its UI are:
  48.
  49. http://i.imgur.com/wkjwXbb.png
  50.
  51. Name is a colored key for usernames to indicate who is currently connected as what. There will only ever be one green Server user, because they are the server host. Messages are the different types of system output Telepone can have to the chat window. System is going to be server related things (Pony has joined. Pony has quit. etc), Error will be messaged sent that are related to something going with the server or the game (Pony's connection was interrupted, etc.). Game errors will also appear in this color. Debug is related to things like match desyncs or errors with the game's connection another player. A match desync is when the player's settings either don't match exactly or when lag becomes enough of an issue to stop a match, which cause the game to run "as normal", but the inputs from both people aren't lined up any more. Status is related to the current state of an individual player. If they have any of these 3 colored status backgrounds, they cannot accept a match. If they have a Resting colored background, then they do not accept matches of any kind, Fighting colored background means the player is in the middle of a match, and Specatating colored background means they are watching a fight in progress. If you put in a comment earlier, Comment background is the color of the background for that statement type in the server, while Notification Background is the colored background for server announcements, which have a significantly larger font than the rest of the chatroom.
  52.
  53. 10: Under the volume slider, there are only two settings, Music and Sound effects. Pretty self-explanatory.
  54.
  55. http://i.imgur.com/YTrRSHa.png
  56.
  57. 11: Finally, we have the FiM tab. Here, you can set your Icon (the pony you play or like the most, usually) to any of the mane 6 or not have one at all. Normal Icons is a set of small 8-bit ponies that display next to a username, while Alternate Icons are small 8-bit cutie marks of the pony instead. The color coded chat checkbox sets it so that if another server user has an icon set, their name in chat is colored to match the scheme of their pony.

  60.
  61. Now you should be set to connect to the server! Hit that OK button. The client should look something like this now:
  62.
  63. http://i.imgur.com/crm2pXB.png
  64.
  65. The first user on the userlist will always be you, followed by the person running the server. After that, the userlist is sorted by order of connection to the server, earliest at the top. There's also a set of buttons along the bottom that have different functions.
  66.
  67. First one on the far left "Refresh List" renews the userlist if you want to make sure the server didn't leave you behind. The button with the two arrows on it next to that one disconnects you from the server and takes you back to the Startup window. RD taking a nap to the right of that is the rest button, which toggles that resting state I mentioned earlier. To the right of that, we have AB in her karate outfit, which opens up a single player instance of the game if you want to practice against a training dummy. To the right, we have the favorite replay button, which you don't really need to worry about. And finally we have the Pinkamena button, which is basically a random match finder that uses the Max ping setting next to it to find you a match. Good for when you don't know who to play. The autoscroll button is self-explanatory and Silent Mode stops displaying any messages you receive until you uncheck it.
  68.
  69. 12: "THIS IS BORING I WANT TO FIGHT ALREADY." Calm down scrub, you're almost done setting up. Open up a single player game using the Apple Bloom button.Your game should be up and running by now, like this:
  70.
  71. http://i.imgur.com/BMj4sWC.png
  72.
  73. However, button mapping may be an issue. If it is, go to Option -> Keyboard (or Option -> Joystick if you've got a fightstick or sommat).
  74.
  75. http://i.imgur.com/rwkLBQB.png
  76.
  77. This should pop up:
  78.
  79. http://i.imgur.com/xsAATMy.png
  80.
  81. Here's where something important happens. Set your buttons to something comfortable for yourself. As an example, I like to use QWEASD for my buttons and the arrow keys to move. Remember to make sure none of the P1 inputs overlap with the P2 inputs, otherwise things might weird out when you're playing. Here's an example setup of buttons:
  82.

  84.
  85. Now you should finally be ready to get in there and beat some ponies up. I'm going to train, so let's go into Versus mode.
  86.

  88.
  89. Character select! Pick someone you like. I'll take Rarity against AJ. Different buttons/button combos have different palettes, as listed above the character splash art.
  90.

  92.
  93. Stage select should popup after, where the first player chooses where to go for the very first stage and then the loser chooses after that. If you're going to go online and play, I would highly recommend going into the pause menu and turning Lofi on to cut down on multiplayer lag.
  94.
  95. Here we have the pause menu (A to confirm, B to back out of a menu). If you're looking for what moves you can do, go to command list and take a quick look at specials. If you want to turn this into a training mode (like I do), go to Training Options.
  96.
  97. Debug button is whatever you set your F key to (E, in my case), which restores both players to full health and maximum meter. Auto teching gives the training dummy a chance to break out of combos if something's not working. A good option for making sure your sick combo works against people who know what they're doing, bro. Auto healing refills both health bars back to full after a combo ends.
  98.
  99. Here we have Stage Settings, and that LoFi option we were looking for. Turn that on. The other two options are pretty self-explanatory. Unpause and you should be good to fight!
  100.
  101. Yep, looks like we're good to go. By now, you should be good to go on the basic setup. Enjoy Horse Fightan!
