[18:03] <@Doink> Amidst the chaos created by a giant celestial body suddenly appearing where it wasn't a moment before, the pilots are rushed to the Eva cages, momentarily safe deep underground. Mia, who was on alert duty in Unit 01, is curiously absent.
06[18:06] * Dmitriy_Platonov appears at the command deck almost immediately after receiving a call. He buttons up the collar of his uniform. Nothing except slightly red eyes shows how little sleep and how much stress he had at last days. "Someone, give me a report on current situation and a cup of strong coffee. Everyone, stay calm, we finally have work to do."
[18:09] <@Doink> Lt. Jackson sits up at his console. "...I'm still trying to get a handle on it, Sir."
[18:10] <@Doink> Jackson: "About fifteen minutes ago we picked up an Nth-phase response coming from /inside the geofront/. A powerful one, too. But it vanished as soon as it showed up."
[18:11] <@Doink> Jackson: "And then a second later, the avatar that was in orbit... wasn't. It seems to have displaced about four metric tons of soil, I have no idea where it went, but it seems to have stabilized again. It's not moving any deeper, at least not yet."
[18:12] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Right. Any changes in sensors readings, compared to previous situation?"
[18:13] <@Doink> Jackson: "No change yet. The Avatar is emitting all sorts of kinds of radiation, radio waves, microwaves, everything. We can't tell if its scanning for something, or preparing some sort of attack, or if it just... does that."
[18:14] <@Doink> Lt. Franklin: "The Evangelions are ready to launch on your command, Sir, if you wish."
06[18:15] * Ruru_Fields slides herself into Kagemaru an undoes her scarf, tying it around her face like a mask and preparing. "Haru Fields, ready for launch."
06[18:17] * Henri_DEllaine is slowly illuminated by the glow of displays as the entry plug powers up. "Unit 03 ready to embark."

06[18:30] * Dmitriy_Platonov sighs. "Situation is dire, as always. But we have no choice. Prepare for deployment of Evangelions. Scramble VTOLs and order them to carefully recon the avatar. We need to see how close we can approach to it, and how it reacts."
[18:32] <@Doink> Lt. Miles nods. "Scrambling VTOLs."
[18:33] <@Doink> The projection above the bunker lights up, showing multiple viewpoints from the VTOL wing as they take off, streaking towards the glowing disk.
[18:34] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Pilots, listen to me. We're preparing for a deployment. Right after the recon will be over, you will engage the enemy. The enemy is... basically, a huge sphere of energy."
[18:35] <@Doink> Even with protective shades on the cameras, the light emitted by the orb is so bright as to make discerning much about it's form impossible. But, from up close, you can see a multitude of shifting darker shapes upon its "surface," twisting into weird patterns that never seem to cease their eerie dance across its form.
[18:36] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "To the VTOL pilots: try approaching the enemy carefully. Does it react at all?"
[18:37] <@Doink> The lead pilot's voice comes through the speakers. "Roger. Beginning appro—"

[18:44] <@Doink> As they emerge, automatic systems engage to blank out the blinding radiance of the dome-like shape that dominates their vision. Almost, but not quite, obscuring the black shapes which writhe on its surface.
[18:45] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Where is Mia? Someone tell me why isn't her Evangelion online!" - Dmitriy frowns. This fight goes rough from the very beginning.
[18:47] <@Doink> Lt. Franklin spins around in her chair. "Someone from Science came and got her and Unit 01 about two hours ago. Said it needed it for a test."

[18:47] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "No reports since then? Someone call Science and tell them that we need Mia back!"
[18:48] <Ruru_Fields> "Mia, unreliable as ever, being nothing but a drain on this team's resources. Tch."
08[18:48] * Kazimir_Prochazka whistles at the orb. "Killer disco ball?"
08[18:48] * Kazimir_Prochazka lets out a laugh at Ruru's statement: "Oh Ruru. Sometimes we get along so well."

[18:49] <John_Kilanger> "I don't know about the disco ball part, but it certainly is a killer."

[18:51] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Pilots, the recon wasn't very informative. But avoid direct approach seems like a best way, so the plan is to start from ranged attacks. Supress it's AT Field, fire, and be careful. We don't exactly know what this thing is capable of."

08[19:07] * Kazimir_Prochazka takes his time to create an AT field around himself and paces the perimeter a bit before rejoining the conversation.

[19:08] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "The confirmation on the core? What exactly have you seen?"

06[19:12] * Ruru_Fields takes a deep breath and stretches her hands towards the sphere ina finger weaving, concentrating her mind through the useless and rather fake getstures, but her AT field does spring to life and begin to erode the sphere... it just didn't require the retarded fanfare.
06[19:14] * Henri_DEllaine grips the controls of his console, focusing his mind. Unit 03 shifts it's footing, pointing the tip of it's spear towards the sphere. As his AT field expands, it smashes against the elder thing.

06[19:19] * John_Kilanger puts in a firing sequance for his missile launcher, and after making sure the corrdinates are correct, fires away.
[19:19] <@Doink> The rockets streak towards the swirling flames... before they vanish.
[19:20] <@Doink> Not the missiles. They impact the ground with a nice explosion.
[19:20] <@Doink> The sphere of fire just... isn't, for a moment. Then it is again.

[19:25] <@Doink> The black shapes on the surface of the creature start to shift more quickly, whirling together in strange patterns and symbols—

[19:25] <@Doink> Then a solid column of light emerges from their nexus point and streaks towards the Evangelions, missing them by a fraction to the left before vanishing abruptly.

[19:28] <@Doink> Lt: Jackson: "We're getting more info from the Magi! The emissions coming from the sphere are definitely scanning for something. There's still some weird AT field activity down inside it too. It looks like... it's directed towards the Evangelions!"
[19:29] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "It could have been expected from a ball fire to launch prominences.... Damn it! Pilots, prepare to repel mental assaults... It can be only that!"

08[19:36] * Kazimir_Prochazka then drops into a marksmans kneel and takes aim at the sphere, trying his best to manipulate his AT field to 'push' into the creature. After feeling like he exerted enough force, he fires into the sphere and awaits a counter-attack.
08[19:36] <Kazimir_Prochazka> "If I turn into a vegitable, give Henri my cigarettes."

[19:37] <Henri_DEllaine> "But Kaz, who in the hell will we smoke them with?"
[19:38] <@Doink> The bullets streak towards the flames, leaving whispy trails in the curling light as they enter.
[19:38] <@Doink> Its light flickers a bit, but other than that it doesn't seem to respond.
08[19:39] <Kazimir_Prochazka> "...guess that's a moot point."
[19:39] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Did the avatar displace this time, Lieutenant?" - Dmitriy asks with anticipation.
[19:40] <@Doink> Lt. Jackson: "No, Sir. It took that one. Although I don't know what happened to the bullets when they entered its space..."
[19:42] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Well, it's something at least... Ruru, use this targeting data and proceed with firing. Henri, John... try to approach it. Melee combat haven't failed us yet."
06[19:48] * Ruru_Fields lines up her shot, focusing, ready, little red dot lined up with her internal reticle, all systems working as one with her rifle, firing that single shot to the center of that great mass of flames.
[19:49] <@Doink> The shot flies clean and true into its center of mass. For a moment, there's no response.
[19:50] <@Doink> Then the number of dark spots on the sphere increase exponentially, writhing and changing and flowing across over half of its glowing surface.
[19:50] <Ruru_Fields> "Well... that did something..."
[19:51] <@Doink> Lt. Jackson: "It did... I'm not sure what, but it seems like its structure is... solidifying somehow."
[19:52] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "I hope it will help us hurting it. If it follows our logic, it should be that way."
[20:00] <Henri_DEllaine> "Well, no sense in just sitting here!" Unit 03 lurches forward, all pistons flairing, and just as the tip of his spear makes contact with the surface of the target, breaks off and begins to circle the beast.
[20:01] <@Doink> As the spear leaves the swirling form, trailing wisps of flame,
[20:02] <@Doink> The winding bits of fire, rather than sputtering out, cling to the Evangelion, traveling down its haft to its arms and burning with greater and greater radiance.
[20:04] <@Doink> It burns at its armor, and even the spear starts to glow and droop with the heat.
[20:07] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "Henri! Report your state! Someone, give me the damage report, I need to know how bad is that!"
[20:08] <@Doink> The flames vanish, after a moment, but not before the spear and most of the armor is a puddle at Unit 03's feet

[20:10] <Ruru_Fields> "Looks like we need more bullets."
[20:11] <Henri_DEllaine> "It's... the spear and all my arm's armor are just... gone... "

[20:29] <@Doink> Unit 05 dodges spectacularly, but a bolt of light still clips its shoulder.
06[20:30] * Ruru_Fields dances and dodges out of the stream of fire, flinging herself into a one handed cartwheel, spinning past and through five of the shots but the last impacts her sending out a scream of pain as it lances into her psyche.
06[20:33] * Ruru_Fields finds herself in a forest with an arrow sticking out of her arm, she tears it out and looks for her assailent for a momment. She can't see it... then she's back in her EVA... huh? Oh... She's...
08[20:47] * Kazimir_Prochazka watches as his allies get burnt and scorched up and down as they constantly try to engage the monster. As he sees the tiny inner sphere show itself, Kaz begins prepping his armaments. Once Ruru had been hit he was ready: still in his kneeling position he flicks his rifle into full auto, readies his shoulder launcher and lights up as much of the creature as he can.

[20:50] <@Doink> The black shapes now cover the entirety of the sphere, extinguishing its light.

His eyes dilate. His hands nearly crush his controls. He will hunt this monster. A deafening sound rocks the area as Unit 03 lifts off, it's electric arc thrusters catapult the eva into the air. They slam into the escaping core,

[21:20] <@Doink> The core buckles a bit in the air before becoming stationary again, some 30dm off the ground.

[21:24] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "John, there's a spear coming through a lift- I mean, it's already behind you! Grab it and throw it! Henri, amazing work!" - Dmitriy sweeps some sweat from his brow. Good thing he thought about it before.
[21:36] <John_Kilanger> "Got it!" John grabs the newly revealed spear, and then quickly floats up to where Henri and the core are, using his AT field to keep him aloft. "Keep it steady, Henri!" Once John get's close enough, he thrusts the spear into the core with as much might as his evangelion will allow him.
[21:37] <@Doink> The sphere cracks, lines of light beginning to shine out through its fragmented black shell.

[22:02] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "What did just happened? Ruru, what the hell did you just do?!"
[22:02] <@Doink> At least one shot, it seems, strikes home, causing what's left of the fragmented core to shatter completely. Bits and pieces fly outwards in every direction, phasing through Unit 03 as they travel on indefinitely into the distance.

06[22:04] * Ruru_Fields raises both her and her Eva's head with a self-satisfied 'hmph!' "Returning to base." and starts moving herself quickly towards the launch elevator.

[22:05] <Dmitriy_Platonov> "I am seriously thinking about doing something disciplinary for the first time. But except for that... incident... great teamwork, great job, you all. Henri, you saved the day. Ruru... just don't do that again. We'll talk about it later. Everyone return to base."

06[22:06] * Henri_DEllaine uses a few quick burts of his thrusters to slowly decend. He suddenly feels a rush of fatigue and hindsight. Why in the world did he do that? As Unit 03 shuffles to the elevator, Henri sends a message to John. "Thanks for the save up there, comrade."

08[22:07] * Kazimir_Prochazka picks up his rifle and begins a slow walk back to the elevators.
06[22:07] * John_Kilanger sends a message back. "That was all you, man. If it wasn't for your quick thinking, it would have ran away."
