  1. In Webchester, public holidays are days on which most businesses and non-essential services are closed. Many retail businesses (especially the larger ones) do open on some of the public holidays. There are restrictions on trading on Christmas Day and on New Year's Day. Public holidays defined by statute are called bank holidays, but this term can also be used to include common law holidays, which are held by convention. The term "public holidays" can refer exclusively to common law holidays.

  3. There is no automatic right to time off on these days, but banks close and the majority of the working population is granted time off work or extra pay for working on these days, depending on their contracts.

  7. 2 January New Year Holiday (Although it is a bank holiday, banks are not required to close and employers are not required to give their employees the day off as a holiday.)

  10. 17 March Saint Patrick's Day
  11. Friday before Easter Sunday Good Friday
  12. Sunday in Spring (movable) Easter Sunday
  13. Monday following Easter Sunday Easter Monday
  14. First Monday in May Labour Day Bank Holiday
  15. Last Monday in May Spring Bank Holiday or Summer Half-Term Monday
  16. Monday after Pentecost (50 days after Easter) Whit Monday (observed only in some businesses)
  17. 1 July Independence Day
  18. Last Monday in August Late Summer Bank Holiday
  19. 1 November All Saints' Day
  20. 11 November Armistice Day
  21. 25 December Christmas Day
  22. 26 December Boxing Day
  23. 27 December/None (Only in a year in which 25 December is either on a Saturday or Sunday. This has the effect of adding an extra holiday when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday.)
  24. 28 December/None (This is an extra holiday added when either Christmas Day or Boxing Day falls on a Saturday.)
