- Looking back, things could have been better. I mean they could have been worse,
- but they could have been better as well. I'll just dive right in shall I?

- I was born in a small secluded town, blocked off on three sides by forests. It
- was beautiful, or at least what I can remember of it was beautiful, as I didn't
- get to stay there very long. My father died shortly after my third birthday,
- and I only vaguely remember his heart shaped face and Wide silvery eyes. After
- his death, we didn't really have income coming in... I mean yea my Ma was a
- seamstress and midwife, but her fingers ached and she was pregnant with my
- brother at the time, so the going was rough - but rougher having to worry about
- an adventurous three year old Nymphling. A drought hit the village, and the
- traders came through round' the same time, bringing sacks of grain and casks of
- nectar and mead, which they charged an arm and a leg for, or rather, two arms
- two legs and a torso. Yea, Ma sold me off. Killed two birds with two stones,
- and "keep your chin up," she said, pocketing the few silvers she got in
- addition to her rice and medicines.

- Life was.... fast after that. City to city, place to place - there were
- auctions, there were grasping hands, fingertips and heat sometimes. It was
- harsh and I grew cold to the world at far too young an age, having to numb all
- the soft parts of me that were squeezed or prodded too hard. Passion was an
- art, and I was just it's instrument - a paintbrush for any heavy purse to
- wield, and more oft' than not poorly so. In the desolation that was those few
- hours after waking, when they'd let us lie there in the hay next to the horses,
- before the subjugation came again, I felt a flicker. I felt a spark, a hateful
- shiver that bit at the shadows, stealing into my fingertips like pins and
- needles - those first few tries. Turns out I had some small magic - nothing
- major and nothing impressive, but it kept the rats from biting at us, and it
- even helped spook a bear once. Being born a nymph allowed me the ability to
- cast a single simple thing, but that spell was everything, and solidified the
- truth in my heart, that there are two types of people and only two - those who
- have power, and those too weak to grasp it. I would be the former.

- Under the cover of night one day, I shattered the locks on our Pen, and dashed
- off into the forest, finding aid in a passing centaur who offered me passage
- for payment to be determined years down the road. He said he'd find me, but I
- didnt' have the luxury of bargaining. Wind licked his heels, and off I rode,
- towards anywhere but there. Years bled out like drain-water, and I found myself
- finally on the precipice of my dreams, or at least the beginning of the path to
- them. I would become the greatest Mage of this era, or I would die trying.
