- 3. Essay
- 3.1 Tell us some things about yourself (150 words min): My name is Elizabeth Cartwright, I was born in Chicago in 1967. I enjoy outdoor activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, swimming (which I became 5th in the National Swimming Championship) as well as reading, doing creative writing and other things. I used to be a mechanic after learning it from school but glaring underneath an engine for so long, I wish to go out and become a Sheriff's Department Officer. There's so many people that are applying for this job and I wish to become one of them.
- I grew up in uptown Chicago and lived with my grandmother after my parents died in a car accident when I was 3. I'd always been interested in vehicles and the law enforcement, which was quite fun. I went to college when I was 16 and learned Automotive Repair Maintenance Level 3 and gained a diploma to fix vehicles.
- 3.2 Why should we pick you instead of the other applicants (150 words min): I think you should pick me because there's hardly any officers around from what I've seen and I wish to fill that role and patrol daily. It seems that I'm just beaming with confidence, dedication and interest in the role. I wish to be a dog handler or something else after I've gained enough experience here, and I'm wondering if the people of this department can grant me that wish. I wish to become a stellar member of the group, in which, I will work as hard as I can until I get the job done. I'm rather fit, I've won swimming championships in my local area of Chicago, Illinois and running and doing outdoor activities are very easy for me.
- I wish to do some good in this county. I've always loved the county setting and I used to go on ridealongs with my uncle back in Chicago.
- 3.3 How do you imagine yourself after one year in the department (100 words min):
- I imagine myself making a Junior Detective rank or becoming something that's higher than a Cadet after so long. I wish to be a good officer who abides by her duty at all times as well as being a vital part of our workforce. I see myself at least as a Corporal or a rank that's higher than that because I'm such a hard, dedicated worker. I imagine that I've made plenty of friends and relationships, and I'd have gained life skills to set me further on when I get a lot older. I wish to still be at the department in a year's time, maybe somewhere up the rank chain.
