  17. 06[15:18] * Christina_Northop sighs and figures she's about to get chewed out for skipping tests yesterday. She decides to push the door open and walk in without a word, closing the door quietly behind her.
  18. 06[15:19] * Karla_Ortega looks down from the ceiling, ending her stretch prematurely and looking at the girl.

  20. 06[15:21] * Karla_Ortega is in her early forties, though she looks very good for that. The first thing that stands out is that she is huge. Six feet six inches. The second thing that stands out is that she is in a low to the ground rugby-grade wheelchair. Her black hair ends right at the shoulder, and she levels grey eyes at the girl. She's in a black tanktop, still adjusting to the local climate, which shows off that the woman is quite fit. Must

  22. [15:23] <Karla_Ortega> Must be from using her upperbody alot.
  23. 06[15:27] * Christina_Northop Is short even for her age, and especially in comparison to Karla. She's wearing a white blouse and khaki shorts, but despite the well dressed apearence she still looks like trouble. Her hair is shoulder length but tied back in a pony tail and a pair of pale green eyes regard Karla with boredom. She's slightly tan having lived on the island. "Yeah. Chris is fine."

  25. [15:28] <Karla_Ortega> "Chris then," she nods.
  26. [15:29] <Karla_Ortega> "Have a seat" she motions to the girl. There is a comofortable chair on the opposite side of the desk. Must have belonged to the room's previous occupant.

  28. [15:31] <Karla_Ortega> "Chris, tell me, how have you liked working for NERV thus far?"
  29. 06[15:32] * Christina_Northop she smirks somewhat. "My honest opinion?"

  31. 06[15:34] * Christina_Northop "Well..." she sits back and crosses her legs. "It sucks. All they do is run tests. All day, just tets, nothing different, just the same shit. I'm suprised those NERV guys didn't try sneaking out too..."
  32. 06[15:38] * Karla_Ortega shrugs "Understandable. I'll get to the point then," Karla says, "I am no longer here to simply do research. I, my Evangelions and my Subjects, are now going to be involved in the defense of Ryan's Island from extremely dangerous foes. Elizabeth Weston, one of my subjects, has been trained for personal combat for nearly a decade, and her unit was critically wounded"

  34. [15:39] <Karla_Ortega> "So you are here to decide whether you wish to stay in the program or not."
  35. 06[15:40] * Christina_Northop seems suprised by the choice, her first choice arriving at NERV. "...what would staying in mean? More tests?"
  36. [15:42] <Karla_Ortega> "Definately more tests," Karla doesn't bother to varnish it, "Also, physical conditioning, combat training, VR exercises, and of course, fighting giant monsters who want to kill you."
  37. 06[15:48] * Christina_Northop she falls silent for a few moments, considering what Karla just said. Combat training? Giant Monsters? That sounds pretty sweet. But more tests? Hm. I could always just sneak out again when I wanted to. Not much outside those walls for me anyway. Alright. "I'm in. But exactly how many more tets are we talking about here..."
  38. 06[15:49] * Karla_Ortega gives her a look of amused suspician, "Only the bare minimum neccessary to ensure your survival."
  39. 01[15:50] <Christina_Northop> "Alright then. Bare minimum sounds... standable."

  41. [15:52] <Karla_Ortega> "Last chance. I'd rather you back out now than change your mind later. We might not be able to afford to get another pilot up to speed."
  42. 06[15:54] * Christina_Northop she smiled. "From what I gathered on those tests, you're rather me be here regardless. Besides, if I change my mind later, it'll only be for a little bit. You probably know there's not much left for me back at home."
  43. 06[15:55] * Karla_Ortega nods and pats a manila folder on her desk. "I've been made aware of your situation. Where are you housed currently?"
  44. 01[15:56] <Christina_Northop> "With my parents. You're gonna change that right?"
  45. [15:57] <Karla_Ortega> "I can arrange that," she nods, "If you wish."
  46. 01[15:58] <Christina_Northop> "Thanks."
  47. [15:59] <Karla_Ortega> "You have two options. I can place you in a personal housing unit, or I can put you with someone else on the project."
  48. 01[16:02] <Christina_Northop> "I'll house with someone else. I could use the company."

  110. [17:09] <Karla_Ortega> I'll dress in a black ribbed turtleneck and long black pants. Leg braces on. I'm going to be walking for this one.

  113. [17:10] <LawfulNice> Christina, just a bit after dinner, there's a knock on your front door.
  114. 06[17:11] * Christina_Northop knowing who it is she gets up from reading her book and opens the door. "Hey."
  115. 06[17:12] * Karla_Ortega is there, standing at full height, cane in hand. The cane is actually braced to her forearm to give her the stability she needs.
  116. [17:12] <Karla_Ortega> "Hello Chris. I'm here as promised."
  117. 06[17:13] * Christina_Northop "I thought... nevermind, come in." she yells into the house. "Sara! It's the doctor!"
  118. 06[17:14] * Karla_Ortega smirks. She calls her parents by their first names?
  119. [17:15] <LawfulNice> Sara: "Just one second!" Christina'a mother walks to the front of the house. She's dressed a skirt and a layered top. "Hello. You must be Doctor Ortega. I'm Sara Northop."
  120. [17:16] <LawfulNice> A man follows behind her, in a golf shirt and slacks. "Hi there. I'm Christina's father, Jack."
  121. 06[17:16] * Karla_Ortega inclines her head in recognition. "Yes, we spoke earlier."
  122. 06[17:18] * Karla_Ortega gives him simmilar recognition, "Hello, Mr. Northop."
  123. [17:19] <LawfulNice> Sara: "Come in, Doctor. Would you like a cup of coffee, or maybe some tea?"
  124. 06[17:19] * Karla_Ortega waits patiently in the doorway, waiting to be let in.
  125. [17:20] <Karla_Ortega> "Coffee would be fine, thank you." Karla enters, looking for a place to sit down. Walkings a bitch, regardless of its dramatic effect.
  126. [17:20] <LawfulNice> There's a sitting room just inside, with a couch and two chairs.
  127. 06[17:21] * Christina_Northop sits down on the couch
  128. 06[17:21] * Karla_Ortega takes one of the chairs.
  129. [17:21] <LawfulNice> Jack sits down in the other chair. "So, what did you want to talk to us about?"
  130. [17:22] <LawfulNice> Sara returns with a cup of coffee for you, Karla. She then sits down on the couch, away from Christina.
  131. [17:22] <Karla_Ortega> "I would like to discuss Chris' work with NERV."
  132. [17:23] <Karla_Ortega> "I'm the project head who selected her based on her exemplary scores."

  135. [17:28] <Karla_Ortega> "Very well, in short the tenor of the project has changed due from one of pure research to one of military defense of Ryan's Island. I wanted to inform you of this change, and what it means for your daughter."
  136. [17:29] <LawfulNice> Sara: "Military defense? But she's only a child!"
  137. 01[17:29] <Christina_Northop> "Mom. Let her finish..."
  138. [17:31] <Karla_Ortega> "Yes. I am aware. As I said, she was chosen for her exemplary scores. She has not only the ability, but exceptional capacity to man one of the only weapons capable of actual defense of the Island."
  139. [17:32] <LawfulNice> Sara: "Is this about that trouble yesterday, with the navy training accident?"
  140. [17:33] <Karla_Ortega> "Yes."
  141. [17:35] <Karla_Ortega> "Less than a quarter of a ten-thousanth of a percent of children world wide are positive for the marker that makes the use of this weapon system possible. The children of Ryan's Island are an anomoly, with 2% of their population being positive. Your child is literally one in 100 million."
  142. [17:37] <Karla_Ortega> "I say this," Karla leans back, "To impress upon you about the importance of her actions. I have no excuses as to her age. The fact is, the oldest candidate we have is seventeen. The next oldest is going to be turning fifteen this year."
  143. [17:37] <LawfulNice> Jack: "And you want her to defend against... what?"
  144. [17:39] <Karla_Ortega> "Strictly speaking, that's classified," she lets it hang, "However, in short it is an enemy who requires specialized technology to even face it. NERV exists specifically for this purpose."
