  1. Education is a fundamental building block of the society. However, it is often costly. Scholarships are meant to facilitate access to education. But who should get the scholarships? In this essay, I will answer this exact question by highlighting two of the possible social groups.
  2.
  3. Firstly, people with exceptional academic performance could be considered as candidates. The main argument for this opinion is that the high achieving students now will be the capable entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers of the future. I believe that the academic performance is a good metric to predict someone's ability to succeed in life. It is essential that these people become the next leaders. Therefore, members of low-income families should also be eligible for a scholarship. I have seen, on multiple occasions, poor individuals become exceptional students once they have been given the chance to study among the top tier students, in the best universities.
  6.
  7. Deciding which groups of people should receive a scholarship is indeed a difficult choice to make. I do believe, however, that academic performance could be the main criterion.
