  1. Three days had passed as the Fallen forces marched further south, no word yet on whether or not the retaken base had been sent a detachment, yet her men had not returned. It troubled her to some extent that the powers in Dis would dillydally in such a way, but not overly so. Three days had been plenty enough time for her troops to rest, the network of sin to recharge, and for them to be on the move and ready for their next encounter.
  2. =
  3. Her nine and a half cohorts moved in three lines of three cohorts, each full cohort containing an equal mix of troops, 165 grunts, dragoons, and zealots as well as 1 officer. At the front, Kali, Abraxas (red eyes) and Anzu (Gideon bearer) In the center of the formation however was the ½ of the tenth cohort, who were escorting a sort of rolling device of their own, splitting the center cohort into a sort of three groups of ½ cohorts.

  5. They had taken one of the trebuchets and secured several of the dead Virtus soldiers to its main pole, putting them on display as a sort of intimidation tactic. The two captured Virtus that were still . . . alive . .ish . . well they appeared alive anyways, were strung by the wrists at the top, along a horizontal wooden beam that had been attached for that very purpose.

  7. The 49 remaining trebuchet and the 30 ballistae rolled along at the back of the formation, protected and pulled by the 50 deamon mechs, marching along in a v shape. The open part of the V flanking out along the sides of the troop formations, and the point directly behind the war machines. The war machines themselves were connected together to roll along in lines of 30 ballistae with 4 deamons to pull, two lines of 20 trebuchets and a line of 10 pulled along by 2 deamons each, with a total of 10 deamons pulling the war machines and 20 each on either side to protect the rear of the formation.

  9. Kali and her officers had discussed tactics and battle plans during the three day march, and so, when the massive glow of the crystal’s holy aura gave away the position of the advancing enemy troops, the Fallen forces were already prepared. When the glow had first become visible, the force had stopped to set up. The war machines were disconnected and the Ballistae were moved to the front of the formation, sitting between the first row of three cohorts and the second. They were quickly loaded with tree trunks carved down into points, and mostly hollowed out. (think, sharpened straw) Inside of these hollowed out trunks were a myriad of ignitable materials, from dried out grasses soaked in oil, to things like Greek fire, or even tar. Now the Fallen were not overly thrilled with the idea of long range combat, but they had learned that their new War Goddess enjoyed creating chaos and carnage, and so they looked forward to seeing her plans come to fruition. As long as they got to fight too. Now the end of each of the bolts was of course plugged with a wooden plug, and the idea was that, whether or not the bolts themselves took out any troops, they would shatter upon impact, raining down flammable and ignitable liquid upon anything and everything within range, and then of course, to be ignited. Not to mention the minor damage of thousands of flying stakes and woodbits from the bolts themselves. KABOOM.

  11. The trebuchets were moved in between the second and third lines and also interspersed between each unit. This way the war machinery was protected and not left vulnerable to enemy attack. All of the war machines had also been fortified, their bases and wheels encased in planks of wood in a sort of box. Clay had been rubbed, and dried, between the planks to make it impossible for enemy troops to climb, and 15 of the Daemon mechs were interspersed throughout the troop formations to protect these assets. It would be incredibly difficult for enemy forces to get near, let alone on top of any of the ballistae or trebuchet to disable them.
  12. =
  13. Once their forces were set, Kali, Abraxas and Anzu moved forward enough so that they could observe the enemy forces of the Virtus. The force was twice the size of the last, and much more prepared for battle. Although, all that did was make Kali smile. She removed herself to the center of the formation, leaving Abraxas and Anzu to lead the assault as she drew upon the power of her network to bring her battle charges to bear. She smiled as her form grew and swelled with 156,600 charges. Her full Sinner aura glowing a dark and ominous purple as she rose to her full height of over 13ft, clearly visible among her troops even from the distance of the Virtus camp.
  14. =
  15. Once Kali had taken her place at the center of the troops, standing on the modified trebuchet, the Fallen would take their cue and fire the 30 hollowed out ballistae bolts through the air, giving no warning of an incoming attack. The bolts would fly through the air, whistling like only airborne missiles could with 17 of them landing and 14 exploding within the lines of the Virtus, unless they had some sort of defense against the massive flying objects. The remainder of the bolts 13, landing in the field between the two opposing forces, 12 of them exploding on impact and drenching the field in ignitable material.
  16. ((please roll 1d100 for percentage of virtus troops affected by oil and/or killed by shrapnel))
  17. =
  18. Now as the assault of the ballistae was taking place, Kali was drawing upon the charges of her network, readying herself for battle. And once the bolts were in the air, the trebuchet were loaded with bales of hay, with large boulders in their centers and ignited. These were then sent on the tail of the ballistae bolts, intended to ignite the oils, tars and other flammable materials of the shattered bolts. Half of the flaming balls of death would make it to the camp, with the other half landing in the field, igniting both areas, again unless some sort of defense had been put in place against the flaming projectiles.
  19. ((please roll 1d100 for percentage of virtus troops affected/killed by fire))
  20. =
  21. The insidious part of this plan was that -some- of the fire was just normal fire, and could be put out with water or water magic, giving hope that the flames could be put out. However, most of the fire was spread with the use of the water, as the material used to start it was tar, Greek fire, and oil, all of which would simply spread with the more water that was thrown down upon it.
  22. =
  23. Now, now it was Kali’s turn. The first thing to do would be pulling on her network for charges to act on for the first two rounds, coming away with 78,300. It was her job to get her troops through the fire, and into range of combat with the Virtus, and in order to do so, several things had to happen. First thing was first, she would activate the abilities of her armor and pull on her natural ability to hasten herself, giving her an additional action for each round for next twenty minutes. (4 actions rather than 3)
  24. =
  25. Now None of the Fallen wanted to walk through fire after all, and that holy aura was definitely going to be a problem. Temporarily at least. Kali pondered for a few seconds before coming up with a bit of a plan for their ‘crystal’, a dark smirk flittering across her lips as she came up with a plan. Her first action then, would be to get rid of the thing. Gathering up her power and concentration, a large black portal of sorts would open below the ‘mobile structure’ which she assumed to be the location of the nasty glow. The spell and portal itself had no alignment, and thus would not be affected by the holy aura of the area, however, the destination very well could be, not that Kali particularly cared where this thing went, as long as it did indeed, go. Now, taking no chances whatsoever that this thing would stay put, she went so far as to cast her spell 20 times. If successful even just once, the mobile structure and anyone touching it at the time, would be shifted to another plane of existence. If it wasn’t successful, or the Virtus had some kind of protection on the thing, the spell would simply fizzle out and nothing would happen.
  26. =
  27. ((roll 20d20 for defense against planar shift: you move yourself or some other creature or object to another plane of existence or alternate dimension. 1standard action, Lvl 7, complex requires 3 charges total charges used: 60))
  28. Please roll 20d20 to defend against mobile structure being sent to another plane, in order: Kali Roll: [19, 19, 19, 18, 16, 16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 8, 7, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1] players handbook ))
  29. =
  30. Now as a secondary action Kali wanted to play with nature, just a little. Currently their field of battle had no advantage or disadvantage, so she intended to change that by casting Plant Growth. (players handbook, level 3, simple spell requires 1 charge, casts: 500 total charges used: 500 covering 220,000 square feet, 1 standard action) The spell would cause an normal vegetation, such as grasses, briars, bushes, creeper, thistles, trees or vines to become thick and overgrown. The plants would entwine to become thick and overgrown, forming a thicket or jungle that creatures must hack and force a way through. This spell was placed along the length of the front lines, interspersed with the flaming atmosphere hopefully making it impossible for the Virtus forces to move forward.
  31. =
  32. Next, to make sure that the Fallen forces would not be adversely affected by the holy aura (if the crystal was not shifted to another plane) or any of its lingering / after effects, Kali would again focus on the center of the Virtus troops, where the mobile structure is/was, regardless of whether or not it was still there. This would take a little more time than the previous two spells, but still would take no more than a single action as she focused to corrupt and desecrate the ground below the virtus forces.
  33. ((Desecrate, players handbook, level 2, simple-1 charge, casts-2000, total charges 2000, coverage: 20,000 sq ft))
  34. The spells would imbue the very ground with negative energy, dispel any use of consecrate, and negate any of the holy effects left by the crystal, allowing the Fallen troops to do battel on Virtus ground without sustaining any additional holy/light damage. The Virtus would take no damage IF they had cast Consecrate on the ground, as the two spells would cancel one another out rather than one overpowering the other. UNLESS of course, the crystal had been shifted to another plane, or if consecrate had NOT been cast on the mobile structure or ground, then the unholy aura of the spells would do damage to the virtus and boost the strengths of the Fallen.
  35. =
  36. Her final action for the round would be to once again teleport her forces from their place around her, to the back and sides of the Virtus troops. Three full legions to the rear, and two to each side, essentially surrounding the Virtus 4000 men with 7 full cohorts of Fallen. (Total 3472 . 1155 each grunts dragoons zealots and 7 officers) as well as 20 of the Deamon armors. (1175 total troops teleported)
  37. (Greater Teleport – level 7 complex requires 3 charges, casts: 1175 total charges 3525)
  38. =
  39. Here the troops would engage in one on one battle with the deamon armors moving in towards the center of the Virtus troops, hoping to to pin down those near the front lines near the now burning fields.
