- Hello,
- Here's a copy of the chat transcript you requested:
- Initial Question: I have a dilemma and am in a bad mood.
- So I have purchased 200$ worth of physical amazon gift cards and applied them to my account. Then I went to amazon.com to purchase 3 additional giftcards using prepaid visa cards that I had.
- There was no realistic way for me to know that the gift cards I purchased from amazon.com are incompatible with my balance as I live in Canada and the only thing you guys could do was give me a refund. So now the prepaid visa card company says I have to wait 10 business days for you to release the money so I can use it to make the exact same purchase, only using amazon.ca? Seriously?
- 01:36 PM PDT FirstSupport B(Amazon): Hello, my name is FirstSupport B. I'm here to help you today.
- 01:37 PM PDT goodiesohhi: Hello
- 01:37 PM PDT FirstSupport B: I'm reviewing your comments. Please give me a minute.
- 01:39 PM PDT FirstSupport B: I apologize for the inconvenience. Our international websites operates independently.
- An Amazon.ca Gift Card can only be redeemed on the website where it was issued.
- 01:39 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I am aware
- 01:40 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and was issued a refund
- when is it gonna happen?
- 01:41 PM PDT FirstSupport B: Could you please confirm your order number?
- 01:42 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I will locate it
- 01:42 PM PDT FirstSupport B: Sure. Take your time.
- 01:42 PM PDT goodiesohhi: ------------------------ (blanked out)
- and
- -------------------------------------
- 01:43 PM PDT FirstSupport B: This needs to be handled by Amazon.com Customer Service. Can you please hold while I transfer you? One of their agents will assist you shortly.
- 01:43 PM PDT 2ndSupport(Amazon): Hello, my name is 2ndSupport. Please give me a moment to review the previous correspondence.
- 01:44 PM PDT 2ndSupport: Hi goodiesohhi
- 01:45 PM PDT 2ndSupport: I understand your concern regarding your order
- Upon checking I see that the order is refunded to your credit card
- Monday, May 27, 2019 1:25 PM (PDT)
- $64.00
- 01:45 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I contacted
- the company
- 01:46 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and they have told me that you havent released the money yet
- 01:46 PM PDT 2ndSupport: It will reflect in your account in 3 to 5 business days
- 01:46 PM PDT goodiesohhi: sure
- so I wait those days
- then come back here
- 01:46 PM PDT 2ndSupport: yes goodiesohhi
- 01:46 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and do this over?
- I have a few concerns
- 01:47 PM PDT 2ndSupport: yes you need not worry on it , it will reflect in your account
- 01:47 PM PDT goodiesohhi: If I am Canadian? shouldn't your company make it realstically clear
- that what I am purchasing
- won't be usable with my balance?
- or is every consumer supposed to read your fine print
- 01:48 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and when I am delayed by 3-5 business days. There is nothing you can do?
- 01:48 PM PDT 2ndSupport: let me check on it
- 01:48 PM PDT goodiesohhi: how am I realistically supposed to know that because I typed amazon.com instead of amazon.ca
- I can not use my money. to buy the exact same thing I wanted to buy the first time
- and now have to wait up to a week.
- 01:49 PM PDT goodiesohhi: do you see my frustration here?
- When I type amazon on google. I get amazon.com
- click buy gift card
- and I cant use it?
- How am I supposed to know that? Wherre do you make it clear.
- 01:50 PM PDT goodiesohhi: its not amazon.us
- its amazon.com
- .COM
- does that automatically mean american?
- no. Com means company
- 01:51 PM PDT 2ndSupport: I am sorry for the trouble you faced goodiesohhi
- 01:51 PM PDT goodiesohhi: this is anti-consumer
- 01:52 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I have to wait
- a week
- to purchase something
- because I typed .com instead of .ca
- and there is nothing you can do?
- 01:54 PM PDT 2ndSupport: How do you want me to help you in this
- 01:54 PM PDT goodiesohhi: How is your average consumer, new to amazon and wanting to make their first gift card reload, going to know that typing amazon.com instead of amazon.ca will be unable to use their new funds with their actual funds.
- get me someone who can release MY money?
- 01:55 PM PDT 2ndSupport: ok I shall do that for you
- 01:56 PM PDT 3rdSupport(Amazon): Hello, my name is 3rdSupport. Please give me a moment to review the previous correspondence.
- 01:56 PM PDT goodiesohhi: yes
- its a long rant
- 01:59 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I understand you purchased some gift cards on Amazon for the intend to use them for Amazon.ca purchase but couldn't. Am I right?
- 02:00 PM PDT goodiesohhi: correct.
- you understand why its frustrating that now I must wait up to a week to purchase something I have wanted for a long time
- 02:01 PM PDT goodiesohhi: simply because I went with the first google result.
- and that amazon has no reasonable protection from this happening
- 02:02 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I totally get your frustration in this matter. I'd like to apologize for the mishap.
- 02:02 PM PDT goodiesohhi: well that would be a first
- Ive been calling the credit card company, chatting here back and forth trying to figure out where my money is
- 02:03 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and in utter shock that such a large and respected company will let this happen.
- 02:05 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I understand the inconvenience you had to go through to wait for the refund. Google results are loosely based upon the exploring frequency of the site. And since Amazon.com caters to North America as well as the rest of the world, it comes up first
- 02:05 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I understand
- and since it caters to north america
- which I live in
- 02:06 PM PDT goodiesohhi: Tell me one thing. How was I realistically able to avoid this. Where along my path of trying to reload funds on amazon supposed to come across this information to protect myself?
- 02:08 PM PDT 3rdSupport: Since you're living in North America, the result could've been filtered based on location as well. So, if you wish to purchase anything on Amazon.ca or Canada, you'll need to change the link a little bit to be redirected to the correct site. Changing the location in the computer would be a hassle.
- 02:09 PM PDT goodiesohhi: my computer has tracking off so I get amazon.com
- and this is besides the point.
- 02:10 PM PDT goodiesohhi: how is it consumer friendly to cause such inconvenience to a consumer simply because they were on .com instead of .ca
- 02:11 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and then do nothing about it
- is there no way for you guys to just release my money so that I can. sigh. change .com to .ca and do the exact same thing?
- 02:12 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I have to wait a week because I used your site wrong do to the fact that I was never given information on how to use it?
- 02:13 PM PDT 3rdSupport: The refund has been initiated already and since a CC was used, it will take 3-5 business days to reflect in the statement. This time frame is dependent on the policies set by the bank/credit card company itself
- 02:13 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I called the credit card company and they said the merchant can release the money
- 02:13 PM PDT 3rdSupport: It has been released. It's going back to the payment method used
- 02:14 PM PDT goodiesohhi: and I have to wait a week
- and there's nothing you can do to compensate me
- for the time amazon has cost me
- if this was my fault
- I wouldn;t be complaining
- 02:15 PM PDT goodiesohhi: but there is no realistic way I could have foreseen this. Since neither sites mention on the purchasing pages that amazon.com and .ca work as separate entities when your account balance is concerned
- and that you're not gonna be able to spend your money.
- 02:16 PM PDT goodiesohhi: am I supposed to read the fine print and the multiple page long legal documents to make a purchase?
- this is completely anti-consumer
- 02:16 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I understand that and I regret this. To compensate, I can issue a $10 promotional certificate but that too will be used only on Amazon.com
- 02:16 PM PDT goodiesohhi: this is a joke right
- 02:17 PM PDT goodiesohhi: wait
- you're serious
- after this long diatride of me being unable to use amazon.com funds
- 02:18 PM PDT 3rdSupport: Besides this, there's nothing else can be done about this. Refund is already under way and we can not take any actions on our other site
- 02:18 PM PDT goodiesohhi: so much for amazon prime
- good first impression
- 02:19 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I'm sorry if I haven; been the most polite
- its just that. I find it BAFFLING
- 02:20 PM PDT goodiesohhi: that I have to just live with the fact I typed .com instead of .ca
- and am unable to make a purchase.
- and although your service does nothing on your end to make sure this doesn't happen.
- 02:21 PM PDT goodiesohhi: there is nothing you can do for me except give me 10 dollars that I can't use for the EXACT same reason this situation is about.
- 02:23 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I understand the frustration in this matter and I'd love to speed up the refund process to release the amount but since it has been set by the bank policy, I can not do anything about it. However, I'll take your feedback about the website usability to prevent this mishap in the future.
- 02:24 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I will write a very long corporate letter
- 02:25 PM PDT goodiesohhi: so how long do I have to wait?
- the credit card company says it may be up to 10 days
- 02:26 PM PDT 3rdSupport: For future reference, the Amazon logo on the top left corner has no extension. This means you're currently in Amazon.com. All other sites have the extension according to their location.
- 02:26 PM PDT goodiesohhi: but how am I supposed to know
- that amazon.com and .ca dont have the same balance?
- Im using one account, anyone would assume their ONE account doesnt have multiple accounts
- 02:27 PM PDT goodiesohhi: furthermore, how am I supposed to know amazon.com funds cant be used on amazon.ca
- most sites dont work like this.
- 02:27 PM PDT 3rdSupport: When you create a Amazon account, account in all other site gets created automatically so that you don't have to create multiple accounts. So when visiting your .com account, look for the logo on the top left corner to see whether a extension is added or not.
- 02:28 PM PDT goodiesohhi: how was I supposed to know this beforehand?
- 02:28 PM PDT 3rdSupport: There's a help page on Amazon.ca as well as Amazon.com which has the limitations listed of it's usability.
- 02:28 PM PDT goodiesohhi: If I bought a STEAM gift card in germany and used it in Canada, it would simply be converted to CaD funds.
- 02:29 PM PDT goodiesohhi: yeah Im looking aat it
- doesnt tell me anything just looking at it
- 02:29 PM PDT 3rdSupport: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201936990&qid=1559165294&sr=1-1
- 02:29 PM PDT goodiesohhi: why would I have searched for that?
- 02:30 PM PDT goodiesohhi: do you search for and read the terms and conditions for every purchase you make?
- where on the card and or purchase page does it ask me to read this?
- 02:31 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I understand that but nothing else can be done about this.
- 02:32 PM PDT goodiesohhi: That's pretty lousy. Wouldn't you agree?
- 02:33 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I agree with you. If I'd been your place, I would have felt the same.
- 02:33 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I guess its time to end chat cause this isn't doing anything for me and I better start that corporate letter.
- have a good day
- 02:34 PM PDT 3rdSupport: I would have done anything I can to make things better but unfortunately, I'm limited.
- 02:34 PM PDT goodiesohhi: I understand
- 02:35 PM PDT goodiesohhi: goodbye
