  1. He didn't know how long he was going to walk. He lost track of the sunrises he watched. His loaf of bread was long gone and he was tired.
  2.
  3. The forest was dark. Light flicked through the leaves, lighting the path of the starving male. Each step was small and used so much energy. The sound of his empty stomach echoed through the hundreds of trees.
  4.
  5. Finally, he felt his legs give out. Falling to his knees, the man decided that this tree was best to perish at. The sun was setting, making the forest harder to see. He slowly began to close his eyes.
  6.
  7. "Hey? Kiddo?! You okay?!"
  8.
  9. Looks like the angels came to take him.
  10. ......
  11. It was warm. The air smelled like a bakery. His skin met the feeling of wool.
  12.
  13. "Good morning, Sleeping Beauty!"
  14.
  15. His eyes opened, hearing the unfamiliar voice. He must be seeing angels. The white color of his outfit and the sunny blond hair looked too good to be earthly.
  16.
  17. "Logan! Patton! The mystery man has risen!"
  18.
  19. Wait.
  20.
  21. Two more men appeared. One was a thin male in a shirt and tie with glasses obscuring his eyes. His dark blue hair had sparkles like a night sky. The other had darker skin and freckles. He was notably chubby, even with the loose, sky blue shirt and khaki pants.
  22.
  23. "Greetings, stranger."
  24.
  25. "You okay, kiddo?" That voice. This man had to be the one who took him. "You were sleeping in the forest. I couldn't leave you there, so I brought you home."
  26.
  27. "It took a few potions to get you to breathe again."
  28.
  29. He blinked, trying to take it all in. He saved him? He was alive?
  30.
  31. "What's your name, champ?"
  32.
  33. This was real. He was found. Maybe he had the chance to start over.
  34.
  35. "I'm... Virgil."
  36. ........
  37. "... and that's why I was out there."
  38.
  39. "My word..."
  40.
  41. Three of the group sat at the table. The chubby one, Patton, was in the kitchen, preparing dinner.
  42.
  43. "It is not often someone from such a large town would leave," the star-haired Logan said, tapping his fingers on the table.
  44.
  45. "I don't know," the blond prince, Roman, mumbled. "Dark Side is not exactly the epitome of good people. He could be the Judas to our group."
  46.
  47. Virgil shook his head. "I swear. I had nothing to do with what was done there, nor the disasters. I just left on my own accord."
  48.
  49. "Hmph. Just what someone on the inside would say."
  50.
  51. "Roman."
  52.
  53. The two others turned to see Patton trying to balance four plates, two in hands, one on head, and the last one causing him to awkwardly hold them between his forearms.
  54.
  55. "Dinner's ready!" Patton said in a sing-song voice, sliding the plates from his arms and head onto the table. It was impressive to see his odd flexibility with them. "Ah-ha! Here we go!"
  56.
  57. Virgil froze up as he felt Patton rustle his hair, telling him to eat before sitting down. Finally, he had a moment to react. Looking at the plate he was handed, he fell silent, his mind tuning out the small talk of the others.
  58.
  59. It was a baked potato, some bread, and a cod. It was a humble meal, but his face shown that this was something more.
  60.
  61. And so, Virgil broke down and began to cry. Everyone stopped what they were doing to stare at his sudden display of emotion.
  62.
  63. "Virgil? You okay?"
  64.
  65. He covered his eyes and his body began to shake.
  66.
  67. "I believe you broke him, Patton," Logan whispered.
  68.
  69. "Wha... what did I do to deserve this?"
  70.
  71. The sky blue-clothed male blinked in confusion. "You kinda said you were lost and starving. I believe everyone should have, at least, a bed to sleep in and food to eat."
  72.
  73. Logan and Roman nodded, as if agreeing.
  74.
  75. "He is always like this. He would take anyone from the woods and nurse them to health."
  76.
  77. "I, for one, nearly died when he found me. Pat is a very kind soul."
  78.
  79. Patton waved at the two, chuckling at their comments. "Stop it, guys!"
  80.
  81. The star-haired man looked back at Patton, shrugging slightly, brushing that off. "It's only the truth."
  82.
  83. With the group distracted in conversation, Virgil began to eat his meal. This was more than he had after the crops died. It has been forever since he had that much-
  84.
  85. Fuck. Too fast.
  86.
  87. "Roman!"
  88.
  89. As the prince began to push up on his ribs and the others in panic, Virgil had the odd feeling of comfort.
  90. .......
  91. When was the last time he got to go to sleep on a full stomach? It was too long. Patton made sure to tuck him in before going back with the others.
  92. .........
  93. Patton slid down the ladder, shaking his hands as he let go of the sides.
  94.
  95. "Please tell me you plan to let him go," Roman asked. "The guy exudes a horrible energy."
  96.
  97. Logan shot a glare from behind his glasses. "And not know what his skillset is? For all we know, he can be a great hunter."
  98.
  99. "You have a hunter!"
  100.
  101. "Sorry, but I gotta side with Logan," Patton said,  standing beside him. "You are a good fisher, because you're fishing for praise."
  102.
  103. "Patton!"
  104.
  105. He laughed at his flustered reaction. "I understand your worry, Roman, but I think he should have the option to stay here once he's well enough."
  106.
  107. His mind thought back to him in the forest, breathing slow, heart barely beating.
  108.
  109. "Besides, I think he might need us more."
