--- Translator's notes ---

First, a little background: Gen is an old school carpenter who talks in beranmee chou - tokyoite prole slang dating back to Edo period. His catchphrases, teyandei and beranme, used to be fighting words; but as they got replaced by more modern ones, they became quaint, even kind of cute. Their exact meanings are hard to pin down, as they're used in many different ways and contexts. I think a small breakdown is in order.

Teyandei = Nani itte yagarunda -> Nani itte yagandei -> Tteyandei

1) Don't talk rubbish
2) Get outta here
3) You wot mate??

^ Take your pick. The list is endless...

Beranme = Berabou na yatsu me -> beranme

Berabou was an ugly, devilish monster at a 1600s "misemono" exhibition. Over time it became a synonym for outrageous, extreme, outside of normal decency. Edokko types like Gen use it as an insult, so words like:

1) Bastard
2) Fiend
3) Outrageous fellow

Come to mind. Again it's hard to know which one to use, since these are after all Nintendo games, yet ideally a translation shouldn't hide the fact that these words used to mean business. Feel free to use whichever you think is most appropriate.

Lastly, to capture the laconic humor of the dialogue, I opted for a terse translation, leaving out words that would've resulted in longer, less impactful phrases. I wrote down the roomaji so you can see the difference.

A quick breakdown of the bad guy group's name, which allows for several translations:

kuro = black
moku = wood, tree, timber...
gumi = suffix for yakuza groups and such

Signs etc:

天 = ten = tempura

黒木組 = kuromokugumi = Blackwood group

愛 = ai = love

いくぜっ！ = iku ze! = Let's go!

田村 = Tamura

Girl's voice:

源さん！！ = Gen-san!!

Stage-5 Blackwood group president's residence
The president ran into his mansion!! Go teach him a lesson so he won't do shady things anymore!! This time don't let him get away!!

Ending:

Stage 4 Seabed tunnel
A tunnel leads away from the foundry's basement. Who knows where it goes? Take the train and rush in!!

Stage 5 Secret factory
The tunnel led to a secret factory. Looks like Parallel is involved. Time to man up!!

Finally made it to the laboratory. Get in through the garbage dump. Dangerous traps are everywhere. Don't lose focus!!

parareru wa kontorooru ruumu ni nigekonda. parareru wo taoshi kenkyuu wo yamesasero! makeru na gen san saigo no tatakai da!!

Stage 8 Control tower
Parallel ran into the control room. Defeat him and stop the research! Don't lose now Gen, this is the final battle!!
