  1. This paste is about heat tolerant tomatoes.
  2.
  3. In my personal experience growing tomatoes, the following have set well in my area (which is fairly dry—often less than 30% humidity—and the temperature often gets above 100 for extended periods, in summer; the high temperature for the day is usually 89° F. or above in the summer; it can get as hot as 116° F. or so, but it only gets above 106° F. for 1-3 weeks at the most, from what I've exprienced, and not every year):
  4. • Black Plum
  5. • Early Girl (hybrid)
  6. • Galapagos Island (Solanum cheesmanii)
  7. • Husky Cherry Red (hybrid)
  8. • Red Pear
  9. • Roma
  10. • Yellow Pear
  11.
  12. However, I should note that I didn't pay attention to the temperature with Early Girl, Roma and Yellow Pear. Nevertheless, we got lots of tomatoes on them throughout the season (consistently, it seemed). Black Plum indeed does set well in the heat (and I have paid more attention to temperatures with this variety), however, and sets better in the shade than most tomatoes seem to do. Galapagos Island seems to set well in the heat, but I need to observe it more. It got some tomatoes early on (it was still reasonably warm then). I'm not sure if it's setting more or not now in the hotter temperatures.

  14. Okay, so I compiled a list of tomatoes that people have claimed have heat tolerance. The level of heat tolerance isn't specified. So, take this with a grain of salt, and do your own investigation on varieties that perk your interest. My sources include such as customer reviews on varieties at rareseeds.com and tomatoes I found via random sites on a search engine. If a tomato is under one category, that does not necessarily mean it doesn't belong in the other category, too. It's possible that some of the list that aren't labeled hybrids actually are hybrids.
