- LET'S GET METAPHYSICAL!
- Anime contains as many fleshed-out genres as traditional film--suspense, fantasy, sci-fi--but an arena where it truly excels and finds scores of fans is "slice-of-life", or shows that strive to depict the lives of their characters as closely to reality as possible. Everyday foibles, bizarre scenarios and youthful folly all coincide in the sort of almost-too-familiar situations that make you an anime fan in the first place.
- One of the interesting threads we've found throughout slice-of-life series' is the "meta-anime", a show-within-a-show, super tongue-in-cheek, often satirical looks at pop culture through an anime character's eyes. Otaku: They're Just Like Us! From Kujibiki Unbalance, the series the nerds of Genshiken obsessed over, to PuruPuru Pururin, the magical girl the hikikomori from Welcome to the NHK worship, with many, many in between, this month's series shines a light on these metaphysical titles that make some anime that much realer!
- A variety of short clips or episodes that we'll be included in show:
- Helvetia standard in Nichijou
- Ninomiya-kun and Sensei in Minami-ke
- Lucky Channel in Lucky star
- Hoshikuzu Witch Meruru in Oreimo
- Gekiganger III in Martian Successor Nadesico
- Action Kamen in shin chan
- Gachi rangers from Mitsudomoe
- Binky salary man in Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
- Super hero legends in Bakuman
- Detective Kun Kun in Rozen Maiden
- AND MANY MANY MORE!
- The complete list will be printed and available the day of show!
- Estimated running time is 90 minutes.
- ABOUT ANIME RESEARCH GROUP: Anime Research Group is an informal New York City-based organization that works to organize various cultural and educational events related to Japanese animation. We started as a anime club that would assemble at a member’s apartment (which still continues today), using it as a hub to watch and discuss anime and japanese culture. The group formed organically over time and within the group are artists, writers and designers that all bring a spectrum of personal interest that enriches and expands the group to where it is now.
