  1. /--------------------------------------------------------------------------\
  2. | Poisons are a vital part of any shofangi's arsenal. Understanding their |
  3. | effects, how to cure those effects, and how they can supplement and aid |
  4. | your forms will increase your effectiveness in combat by a large margin.|
  5. | This scroll seeks to offer information on what creatures carry various |
  6. | poisons, their cures, what poisons are complimentary, and offer a |
  7. | suggestion as to what forms they will aid. |
  8. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  9. | ALEUTIAN |
  10. | Acquired from: Pythons, Balach Swamp |
  11. | Causes: Paranoia |
  12. | Cured by: Lucidity slush potion |
  13. | Strategy: Paranoia is best used in group combat against melders, |
  14. | causing their demense to hit their allies. Its ability to stack with |
  15. | other mental afflictions means that it can complement an ibululu |
  16. | strategy for damage, or a dulak strategy to delay curing. Not a highly |
  17. | recommended poison. |
  18. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  19. | ANATINE |
  20. | Acquired from: Adders, Oleanvir Valley |
  21. | Causes: Clumsiness |
  22. | Cured by: Lucidity slush potion |
  23. | Strategy: Clumsiness is most effective against people who do physical |
  24. | damage, namely warriors and other monks. It's ability to hamper parrying|
  25. | is a fringe benefit. Since it stacks on the lucidity slush balance, it |
  26. |can be an effective| way to hamper these classes, but there are better |
  27. |options. Possibly most effective in tandem with another monk pressuring |
  28. |lucidity balance. |
  29. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  30. | ANEROD |
  31. | Acquired from: Bats, Glomdoring chasm |
  32. | Garnet Scorpions, Scorpion Caverns |
  33. | Causes: Relapse |
  34. | Cured by: Yarrow |
  35. | Strategy: Anerod is most useful for pressuring yarrow to allow lacerates|
  36. | to remain bleeding for longer. Otherwise this poison is of extremely |
  37. | limited use for us. |
  38. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  39. | BOTULINUM |
  40. | Acquired from: Blue-Ringed Ocotpii, Inner Sea |
  41. | Causes: Vomiting |
  42. | Cured by: Purity dust |
  43. | Strategy: Botulinum can be a very effective complement to a hindering |
  44. | strategy. It will provide damage when your enemy tries to act, slow |
  45. | down their actions, and stacks on purity balance to make it easier to |
  46. | keep them paralyzed. |
  47. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  48. | CALCISE |
  49. | Acquired from: Platypii, Rivers |
  50. | Causes: Damaged leg |
  51. | Cured by: Restorative ice |
  52. | Strategy: Calcise is an effective partner with shoflai and hook. |
  53. | Combining those two modifiers, dendroxin, and stomp, you can pressure |
  54. | ice balance and keep an enemy mostly harmless for a good long while. |
  55. | This is especially useful in groups with warriors, helping them to |
  56. | build wounds and apply their afflictions. |
  57. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  58. | CHANSU |
  59. | Acquired from: Nagaradjas, Southern Mountains |
  60. | Causes: Asthma |
  61. | Cured by: Purity dust |
  62. | Strategy: Chansu is a useful poison in groups, particularly when |
  63. | paired with those who can cause afflictions that need to be cured by |
  64. | smoking. This is not a poison that is particularly useful for us on our |
  65. | own. Make sure that someone in the group is applying afflictions cured |
  66. | by smoking before utilizing this poison. |
  67. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  68. | CHARYBDON |
  69. | Acquired from: Red Scorpions, Scorpio-Astral Plane |
  70. | Causes: Random afflictions caused by other poisons |
  71. | Cured by: Varies |
  72. | Strategy: Charybdon is a strange poison. It is almost impossible to |
  73. | build a strategy around it, as it's effects can vary so wildly. The |
  74. | main advantage of charybdon is that it is hard to tell what effect it |
  75. | gives, so in groups, it is advantageous as it can cause difficulties |
  76. | with curing. That said, it is random and less useful than a |
  77. | concentrated attack. |
  78. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  79. | CONTORTRIN |
  80. | Acquired from: Queen Gravedigger, Blasted Lands |
  81. | Causes: Recklessness |
  82. | Cured by: Lucidity slush |
  83. | Strategy: Recklessness can be a very strong affliction if it's not |
  84. | taken care of. Someone so afflicted will think they are invincible and |
  85. | be unable to tell if they are damaged. In groups this is effective in |
  86. | stopping someone from healing themselves. In duels, this is less useful |
  87. | because it is harder to keep active, and is less optimal choice than |
  88. | ibululu. |
  89. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  90. | CROTAMINE |
  91. | Acquired from: Lindwyrms, Earth Plane |
  92. | Causes: Sickness |
  93. | Cured by: Purity dust |
  94. | Strategy: Sickness is a good complement to a damage kill strategy. By |
  95. | decreasing the effectiveness of the enemy's healing potions, you |
  96. | effectively increase your own damage. Good partners for this poison are |
  97. | kumaki and haemotox, which will also increase the damage you do. Other |
  98. | modifiers for a form utilizing this poison are possibly hook if used |
  99. | with stomp, bullstrength, and rake. |
  100. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  101. | DENDROXIN |
  102. | Acquired from: Eyelash Vipers Glomdoring |
  103. | Amethyst Scoprions, Scorpion Caverns |
  104. | Causes: Damaged arm |
  105. | Cured by: Restorative ice |
  106. | Strategy: Similar to, but less effective than, calcise. Dendroxin will |
  107. | also |pressure ice balance, but in doing so it will not hamper an enemy |
  108. | as much as calcise combined with hook and stomp. Combine with calcise, |
  109. | stomp, and hook in one form to apply three ice afflicitions in one |
  110. | form. Combine with shoflai or senso to delay healing. |
  111. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  112. | DULAK |
  113. | Acquired from: Gila Lizards, Skarch Desert |
  114. | Causes: Stupidity |
  115. | Cured by: Lucidity slush |
  116. | Strategy: Dulak is generally useful in a multitude of strategies and |
  117. | forms. Applying it pressures lucidity balance and makes keeping |
  118. | afflictions like sensitivity and recklessness easier. Always afflict |
  119. | with dulak first, as it can possibly prevent someone from curing any |
  120. | additional afflictions. An absolutely necessary poison for any shofangi |
  121. | to have at their disposal. |
  122. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  123. | ESCOZUL |
  124. | Acquired from: Bloated Parasites, Pisces-Astral Plane |
  125. | Causes: Powersap |
  126. | Cured by: Soothing steam |
  127. | Strategy: This poison is best used in combination with harudin to |
  128. | hinder guardians and wiccans. That said, this should be a very low |
  129. | priority strategy, as we do not have many other ways to push |
  130. | afflictions on the soothing steam balance. Possibly more useful in |
  131. | conjunction with a bard who can pressure soothing steam to leave an |
  132. | enemy unable to use power to cure. |
  133. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  134. | HADRUDIN |
  135. | Acquired from: Muhagli,Cavern of Muhanlesh |
  136. | Black Scorpions,Blasted lands |
  137. | Causes: Disloyalty |
  138. | Cured by: Soothing steam |
  139. | Strategy: Useful only against someone who is using entities to defend |
  140. | them. These include beasts, guardians, wiccans, ecology users, and |
  141. | trackers. This poison is best used in tandem with senso, and possibly |
  142. | butojo, hook, and stomp to pressure ice and steam balances at the same |
  143. | time. This should be a primary poison in duels against classes with |
  144. | entities. |
  145. |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
  146. | HAEMOTOX |
  147. Acquired from: Rattlesnakes, Hirafae Hills |
  148. Causes: Haemophilia |
  149. Cured by: Purity dust |
  150. Strategy: Hameotox is a valuable poison for shofangi because it stops |
  151. clotting. In combination with other purity dust afflictions, it can |
  152. help
  153. amplify our damage by raising our bleeding to very high levels. Combine
  154. with crotamine and you slow healing, passively increasing your damage.
  155. This combination is powerful because it also hampers an enemy from regaining
  156. mana, which can make it harder for them to clot.
  157.
  158. IBULULU
  159. Acquired from: Cobras, Skarch Desert
  160. Causes: Sensitivity
  161. Cured by: Lucidity slush
  162. Strategy: Ibululu will increase damage done to the target. In group settings
  163. this is very powerful because you are passively increasing all damage done to
  164. the target. In duels, this is a little less powerful because you are highly
  165. dependent on lucidity balance for it to stick, and shofangi have very few
  166. ways to pressure that balance. Highly recommended to own and learn how to
  167. use, but in duels purity afflictions are recommended.
  168.
  169. INYOKA
  170. Acquired from: Red Salamanders, Rivers
  171. Causes: Hallucinations
  172. Cured by: Lucidity slush
  173. Strategy: Possibly this is most useful in conjunction with grapples. The stun
  174. that occasionally occurs, on top of another hindering poison like dulak, will
  175. possibly delay a writhe and help secure an ender. Combine with bogami, hook, and
  176. stomp for greater success.
  177.
  178. MACTANS
  179. Acquired from: Black Widows, Glomdoring
  180. Onyx Scorpions, Scorpion Caverns
  181. Causes: Chills
  182. Cured by: Fire potion
  183. Strategy: The only reason to ever use mactans is in conjunction with an
  184. aquamancer trying for their freezing kill. Shivering can also throw people
  185. off their balance, but chills is very easy to cure.
  186.
  187. MANTAKAYA
  188. Acquired from: Adorath, Illwater Lake
  189. Manta Rays, Inner Sea
  190. Causes: Paralysis
  191. Cured by: Purity dust
  192. Strategy: Mantakaya is a poison that is less useful to us than many others because
  193. of kumaki. In forms without kumaki it is stil la valuable way to pressure the purity
  194. balance. Combine with any purity cure for greater effect, but do not combine in the
  195. same form as kumaki.
  196.
  197. MELLITIN
  198. Acquired from: Wasps, Glomdoring Forest
  199. Jade Scorpions, Scorpion Caverns
  200. Causes: Dysentery
  201. Cured by: Purity Dust
  202. Strategy: Useful as mainly a hindering poison if you are already using mantakaya or
  203. kumaki. A form more concentrated on hindering an opponent from escape or attack
  204. could utilize this poison very well. Concentrate on using kumaki, botulinum, and
  205. possibly stun or buck head.
  206.
  207. MORPHITE
  208. Acquired from: Dreamleeches, Water Plane
  209. Causes: Sleep
  210. Cured by: Wake, kafe, insomnia
  211. Strategy: This poison is effective at keeping someone proned and possibly useless
  212. in a fight. There are multiple hurdles to overcome however. Kafe, insomnia, and
  213. metawake all render this poison much less useful. On top of that, damage will wake up
  214. a sleeper, so any form utilizing this poison should not end in a kick. Most useful in
  215. groups where someone else can apply some other form of pressure to secure a kill.
  216.
  217. NIRICOL
  218. Acquired from: Cockatrice, Hills near Glomdoring
  219. Causes: Blindness
  220. Cured by: Faeleaf, purity dust balance
  221. Strategy: This is a fantastic poison to use to hinder an opponent. Combine with kumaki,
  222. and another purity dust affliction, hook, and stomp to apply a lot of pressure to an
  223. opponent. In groups, this can be even more effective if you pick a high-priority target and
  224. use a form along those lines, as you will be almost able to keep them out of the fight and
  225. allow allies to target other enemies.
  226.
  227. PYROTOXIN
  228. Acquired from: Fire Mantis, Fire Plane
  229. Baby Manticore, Grey Moors
  230. Causes: Burns, damage
  231. Cured by: Liniment
  232. Strategy: Very limited use for shofangi, as we have no way to utilize the burns that result.
  233. Not a recommended poison.
  234.
  235. SAXITIN
  236. Acquired from: Sea Anemone, Inner Sea
  237. Causes: Pox
  238. Cured by: Purity dust
  239. Strategy: This poison is of extremely low use compared to other purity afflictions. Not
  240. recommended.
  241.
  242. SENSO
  243. Acquired from: Stoneghasts, Earth Plane
  244. Causes: Slickness
  245. Cured by: Soothing steam
  246. Strategy: Very useful if trying to stack ice balance afflictions. A large problem with senso
  247. is that we have very few ways to pressure the soothing steam balance, and beyond keeping
  248. someone prone, we have very few reasons currently to care about slickness. That said, it is
  249. a useful poison when teamed with a warrior. For added trouble, combine with shoflai to make it
  250. much more difficult for the enemy to apply any curative salves.
  251.
  252. TETRODIN
  253. Acquired from: Tree Frogs, Serenwilde
  254. Frogs, Tolborlla
  255. Causes: Health leech
  256. Cured by: Soothing steam
  257. Strategy: Possibly of use against non-guardian enemies in conjunction with a bard and senso.
  258. This could be a strategy to apply pressure to the steam balance and allow you to stack hindering.
  259. Stomp legs, bullstrength, and hook would be essential to this strategy.
