  3. Bashkani - An ethnonym indicating somebody born to the tribesmen of the Gondarin Kof mountain range and its surroundings.
  4. Bashko - The language of the Bashkan
  5. Koskesh - Literally ‘pussy hauler’, but carries a deeply negative connotation. Often translated as ‘pimp’.
  6. Baksh - A baksh is a set of several taefas, and originally denoted a single political block which sent a single advisor to the Shahryar's court. Now, it is simply a grouping of vaguely allied taefas.
  7. Taefa - Originally, the taefa was the group of families with whom one would migrate up into the mountains and down into the valleys depending on the time of year. Now, it's a group of families which all share a common ancestor, basically a clan.
  8. Turani Shahdom - The Turani are the clan from which the ruling dynasty hails. Thus, to most outsiders the lands of the Bashkani are unified under the Turani Shahdom.
  9. Tavan - The field which, in contemporary magical theory, provides the basis for all feats of Sakti.
  10. Sakti - Sorcery, the practice of magic.
  11. Xodan - The third person plural form of Xoda, which is variously translated as god, lord, master, owner, or patron. Refers to the collective consciousness of the kings of the Bashkani which rules over the underworld, attended by the Old Gods (Xodayan Kohan) and the Ancestors (Niyakan).
  12. Maniya - In Bashkani religious practice, the Maniya is the gestalt consciousness of all one’s ancestors, to which your consciousness is added when you die. Collectively, the Maniya form the Niyakan and attend the Xodan’s court in the underworld.
  13. Sabanyi - A great empire which the Shahryar once swore fealty to. They came as a great conquering horde of nomads, worshiping their strange god Isten, and viciously persecuted the Bashkani.
  14. Rasulvan - The people living in the lands directly to the east of the Bashkani.
  15. Garmih - One of two rooms in a traditional Zarmehani bath, the hot room. The walls and floor are heated by pipes filled with hot air.
  16. Sarma - The other of two rooms in a traditional Zarmehani bath, the cold room. Typically contains either a large soaking or swimming pool kept cold with snow.
  17. Kabahja - The changing room at the entrance to a Zarmehani bath.
  18. Zarmehani - The adjectival form of Zarmehan, which is a region to the southeast of Bashkan lands, traditionally the heartland of a series of powerful empires but currently a Votish possession.

  20. UNITS OF MEASURE
  21. Angosht - "Finger", slightly more than one inch.
  22. Dast - "Hand", five angoshtan.
  23. Bazu - "Arm", two dastan.
  24. Kaman - Literally "bow", but figuratively the distance that an arrow can fly. 1200 bazovan.
  25. Parasang - An hour's journey, five kaman.

  27. CURRENCY
  28. Bivar - "Ten Thousand", a one ounce gold coin of relative purity. Equal to 10 hezaran, which are each worth 2 pansadan, which are each worth 500 loqman. (~$400)
  29. Hezar - "Thousand", a one and a half ounce silver coin of relative purity. (~$200)
  30. Pansad - "Five Hundred", a three quarter ounce silver coin of relative purity. (~$100)
  31. Loqme - "Iota", a one ounce copper coin of relative purity. The basic unit of currency by which the value of all other coins is measured. (~$0.20)

  33. TITLES OF NOBILITY
  34. Shahryar - Means Great King in Bashko.
  35. Jenab - A form of address reserved for the Shahryar and the Bidaksh. "His Excellency".
  36. Rani - Queen. Shahryar's legal wife.
  37. Banbishn - Queen, but lower ranked than the Rani. Title given to concubines, daughters, cousins, et cetera of the Shahryar.
  38. Bidaksh - "Second in Command", a title held by the Shahryar's heir.
  39. Darigan Salar - The noble in charge of the imperial court and household.
  40. Handarzbed - Shahryar's advisor.
  41. Mardbed - Chief treasurer.
  42. Banugan - Handmaidens to the Rani and the Banbishnan.
  43. Banuk - A lady of the court, or the wife of a noble.
  44. Sepahi - Literally ‘soldier’, but also the official title of the master-at-arms in the Shahryar’s court.
  45. Sardarzadegan - The plural form of Sardarzade, lit. Descendant of Sardar.
  46. Shah - Similar to a viceroy, they're second in authority only to the Shahryar. A historical rank, as nobody in the current court holds it.
  47. Wuzurg - Nobles who either control vast swathes of land, or particularly rich territory. Typically have several azadan sworn to their service.
  48. Azad - Title for any minor landed noble that lacks any higher ranks in court.
  49. Sayb - A generic, respectful form of address for any noble when their name and title are unknown, or if they lack a title of their own.
  50. Nakjirgar - Literally "Trophy Hunter", these marksmen are empowered to hand out hunting licenses, apprehend or kill poachers, and petition the royal court for a Yazd in the event that they discover demons lurking in the woods.
