feedback from girlfriend who used to do QA:

was able to add multiple instances of the same users to the userlist -- fixed
confusion then about the username being displayed on the left as "welcome back, Tester1" -- fixed by lowerCase

it seems important to not rely on a single source of validation, check edge cases as well and implement them in a more well-rounded validation method
