NPC: Prof. Fir spends days on end studying in his lab. When he's not doing
that, he's out in the wild collecting data. Does he spend any time at home?


NPC: I don't get it, I thought Chauncey would like a [color of rug] rug,
it's his favorite color! He hasn't talked to me all week since I got it.
This was expensive, I don't want to have to order another!


NPC: You must be [PC], Prof. Fir's newest assistant! Chauncey has had a lot
to say about you. Nice to meet you!


NPC: Hah! I knew it! His stash is in the "Research" folder!
Ooooohh when mom and dad find out about this..!


C: This kid is sure taking his time... We've been here for ages!

S: C-chauncey..
We've been waiting two minutes, you gotta slow down..
Remember the first thing Prof. Fir told us about field research?

C: I know, but this is hardly field research! We're just waiting on this

S: Chauncey you can't be so mean to him!
We're all supposed to c-cooperate with each other
for Prof. Fir's project!

C: Well..erm..
Hi, I'm Chauncey..

S: And I'm Sierra, it's a pleasure to meet you!
We're Prof. Fir's assistants. He asked us to fetch you for
your first day on the j-job. I better tell you about the Professor's
project so you won't be a Deerling in headlights once we get to the lab!
What we'll be doing is-

C: Alright, alright!
We'll deal with that at the Lab, I want to get moving!
To get to the Lab, head south from here, and you'll see a fork in the road.
The fastest way to the Lab is East.
Now, we've introduced ourselves, and you know how to get to the Lab.

[CHAUNCEY RECIEVE SIERRA'S HAND]

S: H-huh!?
Chauncey w-wait..! What about the wild Pokemon in the grass?

C: The Pokemon in the grass in town are docile, they won't attack us.
Even [PC] knows that, now come on!

[CHAUNCEY AND SIERRA EXIT]

PC (to self): I should head to the Professor's Lab. I'd hate to get Chauncey
even MORE worked up by being late..

C: Took your time, didn't you? This way.

F: I'm glad you could make it!
All three of you, together at last! YEAH!
Oh my apologies, I forgot to introduce myself.
My name is Fir, but people nowadays call me the Pokemon Professor.
I study the Pokemon across all of the Mayla region, WOO!
You've grown so much. Last time I saw you, you barely came up to my knee!
You may not recognize me, but I'm a close friend and research partner
of your father, Prof. Crimson.
He's who inspired me to become a Pokemon Professor!
That aside, let's get to business. I've gathered the three of you here to-

C: Finally!
I heard you have gifts for us! Are they for that "Project" you told us about?

F: Calm down, Chauncey. Before I get to that, I need to set the stage for
the three of you.
Mayla is an island region with a different climate and plant life compared
to the rest of the world. Because of that, some of the Pokemon you see here
changed over the years to suit their environment.
During my research, we've seen Pokemon species that we recognize, yet are vastly different
to the same species we know from other regions. I've taken to calling these Mayla Regional
Forms, or just "Maylan", for short. You can find these Maylan Pokemon on each of the four
islands of the region! YEAH!

S: Wait, Mayla has four islands?

C: Sierra, we went over this! Did you forget already?

F: Yep, four islands!
This is where the three of you come in.
I'll be giving each of you Pokemon to journey across the region to research these
Maylan Pokemon! ...And if you're going to travel the region, you can also do
the Grand Island Challenge!
Ya' see, we do things different in Mayla. Instead of a Gym in each city, we have Kahunas,
the best trainer on each island! To get to the Kahuna, you have to beat their Captains.
Instead of 8 gyms, Pokemon Trainers here aim to complete the Grand Island Challenge, WOO!

C: That's cool, can we have our Pokemon now? I've been waiting for ages!

S: C-Chauncey! This is as important to Prof. Fir as it is to us! Don't be so rude...

F: Hahahaa!
Sierra, I've known Chauncey for longer than even you have. I'm used to how he acts
when he gets excited about something.
Actually, he's almost got the right attitude. Getting your first Pokemon is one of the biggest moments
in a Pokemon Trainer's career! WOO! YEAH!
Now..where did I put my bag...
... ...
Ah! There it is!
I have, for each of you, a Pokemon that you're not likely to see in Mayla.
Professor Birch bred these for me when I lived in the Johto region, and I've taken
care of them for precisely this moment.
Whatever you do on your adventure, be sure to bond with your Pokemon. These will be
your Partner for the journey you three have ahead of you..
[PC], why don't you choose first?

C: WHAT? I've been with you way longer than [PC] has! Why does he get to choose first!?

S: Teeheehee!
Maybe the Professor is getting back at you for being so i-impatient. It's a virtue,
remember?

F: Not quite, Sierra.
Chauncey is right, you two have been with me for a lot longer than [PC] has. I don't
want to play favorites, so I'm letting [PC] go first. Since he's my longest serving
assistant, Chauncey will go last.

C: Hrmph..

So [PC], who will you choose?

[CHOOSE STARTER]

S: Ooh, this Chikorita is so cuuuute! I choose you!

C: I guess that leaves me with Totodile. At least it's strong against your
Cyndaquil, [PC]!

[IF TOTODILE]

S: Ooh, this Cyndaquil is so cuuuute! I choose you!

C: I guess that leaves me with Chikorita. At least it's strong against your
Totodile, [PC]!

[IF CHIKORITA]

S: Ooh, this Totodile is so cuuuute! I choose you!

C: I guess that leaves me with Cyndaquil. At least it's strong against your
Chikorita, [PC]!

F: Now that the three of you have chosen your Partners,
I would like the three of you to have a Trainer Kit. It has all the basic needs
a young trainer starting out could want! WOO!

[RECIEVE POKEDEX, POKEBALLS, POTION]

S: Ohmygod! Thank you, thank you, th-thank you!

C: Wow, Professor, you weren't kidding about our gifts being amazing!
I'm sorry for getting so impatient with you...and thanks.

F: You're all very welcome. Now, your task will be to fill this Pokedex with
all of the Pokemon you can find across the islands. It will automatically record some
data just by seeing a Pokemon, but to get all of the information I want to know, you need to catch it too.
Make sure to pay attention to the Pokemon you find, to see if they're Maylan. Make sure to get data on all of the Maylan
Pokemon you find!
I know that you know what the species in other regions look like, I taught you.

C: How does [PC] know, then?

F: He/She may not look it, but he's/she's just as much of an expert as you and Sierra
are. His father, Prof. Crimson, taught him everything that I taught you two.
That should be everything! Now, I want you the three of you to meet me in Tuku Village.
There's someone amazing that you three need to meet! YEAH!

C: Is it your wife again? We met her last month, and I doubt you can convince [PC]
that she's a beauty, either.

F: What was that..?

C: N-nothing!
Sierra, I think heading to Tuku V-Village right now would be a great idea...
Wouldn't you a-agree?

S: Hmm..I guess so.
After all, Yuki Town has an amazing library that I want to check o-

C: Alright! I'll race ya' there!

[CHAUNCEY EXIT]

S: Chauncey, w-wait for me!

[SIERRA EXIT]

F: Haha! Much as I scold them, those two never cease to give me a chuckle.
They know their way around this island.
Head East out of town and you'll find Tuku Village at the end of Route 1.
We'll be waiting for you! WOO!

NPC: Before Prof. Fir came to this region, Prof. Birch would come here
on a yearly basis to give new Trainers their first Pokemon!

NPC: I wish I was old enough to own a Pokemon..


NPC: I can see the other islands from here!


NPC: The Outskirts of Sau'to are prime fishing ground.
Now, leave me alone! I'll catch that golden Magikarp if it's the last thing I do...

NPC: Fun fact! Kahuna Suiren(note: honestly I'd change the name, since it's taken by Lana)
is the younger sister of Caitlin.

The rare Pokemon down there are pretty strong. Tell ya' what, when you've
become champion of Mayla, you'll have my permission to go down there.

NPC: The library here is absolutely amazing! They have everything..

Berries can be very useful in Pokemon battles.
You should give them a try, especially in tough battles. They could save your hide!

have a Mythical Pokemon that protects the island? What was it they call them..?
Erm.. Um.. Oh yeah, they're kn-known as "Guardian Deities"!
Well anyway, how's the Pokedex coming? Any new Pokemon?

Speaking of Pokemon, how about we have our very first Pokemon battle?
You'll probably win... I-I'm not that good, yet...
