  40. Parker is a thief who has an unusual code. He doesn't steal from the poor and hurt innocent people. He is asked to join four other guys on a job. They pull it off flawlessly. They tell Parker that what they got can help them set up another job which will net them much more. But Parker doesn't want to join them and asks for his share. But they need it all so they try to kill him. They dispose of his body but someone finds him--he is still alive--and takes him to the hospital. After recovering he sets out to get back at the ones who tried to kill him, another one of his codes. Despite being told that they are working for a known mobster which he was not aware of, he still wants to go after them. He learns where they are and poses as a wealthy Texan looking to buy a house. So he hires a real estate agent, Leslie Rogers to show him around. He is actually trying to find out where they're holed up. And when he finds it, he sets out on his plan to get them. But when they learn he is alive, they contact the mobster to take care of him. So the mobster sends a killer to take care of him. And Leslie also finds herself intrigued with him so she follows him.
  41. A thief with a unique code of professional ethics is double-crossed by his crew and left for dead. Assuming a new disguise and forming an unlikely alliance with a woman on the inside, he looks to hijack the score of the crew's latest heist.
  42. I have mixed feelings about &quot;Parker&quot;, even though quite often I am forgiving of an action movie&#39;s flaws. First, the good stuff about the movie. The movie looks very slick and expensive; obviously great care was put into the production values. Jason Statham once again proves himself to be an effective anti-hero that commands the screen. And while the movie isn&#39;t action-packed, the action that there is is pretty well done, being surprisingly (and effectively) brutal at times.<br/><br/>But the movie has its share of problems. The main problems I had with the movie was that not only was it slow-moving at times, at almost two hours in length it was much too long. An additional problem was that the story didn&#39;t really have any surprises - a twist or two would have helped greatly. And I was really shocked as to how actor Nick Nolte looked and sounded, enough that I wonder if he was really ill when doing this movie.<br/><br/>In the end, I was reasonably entertained - but I only paid a few dollars to watch the Blu-ray during a slow weekend. Had I paid full price to see it in a theater, I know I would have felt ripped off. Although I like Statham, and I will continue to see his movies, he really needs to do better with picking scripts. If he doesn&#39;t, I am sure that in a few years from now, he&#39;ll be alongside Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme in the direct-to-DVD industry.
  43. If Jason Statham has been stuck in one-dimensional roles, he&#39;s not going to make any breakthrough at Parker, despite having southern accent and hair at the first scene. A bit of action, more of heist thriller, Parker is overly long and awkwardly paced. Fight scenes are sparse, for those who hope for high octane skull mashing, this probably won&#39;t meet such expectation. Addition of Jennifer Lopez adds some light humorous touches, warranting her appearance more than just an eye candy.<br/><br/>Parker (Jason Statham) is a man betrayed by his teammate after completing an almost botched heist, he was shot and left to death. Unsurprisingly, he doesn&#39;t die and vows revenge instead. Most of the movie is cat-and-mouse plots as he chases them across countries in not so exciting pace. There are a couple of fights in between, although the amount feels lacking for a movie led by Jason. For these few scenes, they are done quite well. Unbarred bone breaking punches, kicks and other assortments of nearby potential weapon swinging are viscerally entertaining.<br/><br/>The rest is a bare heist plot, which really won&#39;t hold a candle compare to more cerebral crime action movies. Pacing is undeniably slow, most of the things happening on-screen, even some with both leads appearing, are somewhat lackluster. The movie has about two hours in length and frankly with this long dragging set-up, one might expect some clever scheme building up towards the end, but it is not so. Without spoiling anything, the pace is equally stale from start to finish.<br/><br/>Jason Statham bring his usual screen presence, he&#39;s a rugged, honor bound thief who keeps his principles religiously. When he threatens or hurts someone, he does so very earnestly, at that regard, he fulfills his role. However, there&#39;s little difference from other Statham&#39;s movies. Jennifer Lopez as Leslie is actually quite good. For someone who has superstar fame, she acts as poor people convincingly. There are modesty and honesty when she appears as well, making her likable to the audience, aside for her popularly known hind allure.<br/><br/>The two leading actors do their parts well, however the script and direction are mediocre. Parker is a bland movie, which has brief excitements across its lengthy run, albeit barely enough for the whole.
  44. Parker...is not a great movie....But Parker is nonetheless great fun. It is part of a welcome trend, or counter-trend, in action filmmaking, an effort to strip away the apocalyptic bloat and digital fakery that have overtaken the genre and return to its pulpy, nasty, mechanical roots.
