- So I was taking a test today and the wind kept howling outside. I had some time, so I gave it some thought.
- I wonder why the wind howls.
- It gets our attention with screams and twigs flung at windows.
- Maybe it's trying to remind us of something.
- Maybe it's trying to remind us that it's there.
- "Look," it says, "think of me,
- "However you may feel in your buildings,
- "or whatever you may do,
- "I shall carry on, one force, constant.
- "And when you find nothing is certain,
- "Take comfort in this:
- "I am the wind, and through everything,
- "Long after you pass on, and long before you were born,
- "I keep blowing.
- "Be comforted, for though you may feel in turmoil,
- "And my shouts may seem chaotic,
- "I am more present than most.
- "Remember me, for I am the wind.
- "I am old as the Earth, but young as this gust,
- "And I, through all else,
- "Will continue."
- I wonder if the wind means to say all this,
- Or if it's just me trying to find meaning where there is none.
- Whatever the case may be,
- I wish I could talk to the wind as it speaks to me,
- and say something simple.
- "Thank you."
