  1. Day 5
  2.
  3. Playing vs Imperial Guard
  4.
  5. Another fun list to play and a really good opponent.
  6.
  7. He had 2 tank commanders, tank commander Pask, 2 astropaths, 3 company commanders and a Scion Prime. For his regular troops he had 4 groups of Tempestus Scions (special forces) all with plasma guns, 3 groups of guardsmen, 3 mortar teams a 3 Valkyrie Gunships. He also had a Blood Angles detatchment with 2 Smash Captains (Captains with thunderhammers and jump packs) and 3 scout squads.
  8.
  9. Mission was nexus control, deployment was Hammer and Anvil.
  10.
  11. He deployed first, keeping everything bunched up in a corner of the map. He forward deployed his scouts in annoying places and put his smash captains in deepstrike. His scions were in the gunships.
  12.
  13. I deploys super far forward, knowing that against IG I could be aggressive in board control with my high damage weapons.
  14.
  15. He has first turn but I seize the initiative on a 6 and take first. I immediately destroy one of his Valkyries with the kataphrons plasma, killing 4 of the 20 embarked dudes. My snipers manage to pick off one of his company commanders and my knight advanced halfway up the board onto his forward objective, murdering 20 guardsmen as he went. my tanks bunched up next to my command element, not wanting to overextend all my heavy hitters.
  16.
  17. His first turn he drops all his scions next to the knight and moves out of the corner. One gunship unloads 40 bolter rounds into my servitors for a mighty 2 damage total. The other hovers near my knight and whiffs all its shots. The Scions get an order to do extra damage to titanic models and reroll wounds against vehicles, both good against my knight. Despite all his buffs and rerolls, the knight lives with 10 wounds left. He fails to kill anything that turn, really slowing his points gain.
  18.
  19. Turn 2 my knight went to work. It murdered two squads of scions, used its harpoon to bring down the closest gunship, charged all his forward buffing characters and sat on the objective they were holding. I killed the other gunship with my kataphrons and consolodated the rest of my forces into the middle.
  20.
  21. His turn 2 he deepstruck both his smash captains. One went for my main blob and the other went for my knight. He managed to shoot a bunch of my kataphrons with his lemun russ commanders, but the main shooting body of my army was still in tact. He failed both charges with his smash captains and failed to kill my knight with any other melee attacks.
  22.
  23. Turn 3 I sniped out his closest smash captain and did some more stomping with my knight. I intentionally moved closer to his back lines of tanks and support characters, while also still holding the objective.
  24.
  25. Turn 3 he didnt shoot much, missed all his tank shots and whiffed his mortars. He charged my knight with his smash captain and did a huge overkill of 18 damage in one round of fighting. He was surprised when I said my knight exploded on 4’s for 3d6 range. I rolled 2 4s and then 16" on the explosion radius. In a noble sacrifice that I’ll never forget, my knight wiped out all his mortars, his assassin, his smash captain, his scion prime, all the remaining company commanders, his astropaths. It also caught one of his lemun russ’ in the explosion, stripping its last remaining wounds and making it explode, killing an infantry squad and reducing his other tank down to 8 wounds. It was glorious.
  26.
  27. After the dust had settled he decided to conceed.
  28.
  29. Score was 38-10.
