- (Ultra) Sun/(Ultra) Moon was... good in SOME ways, and pretty terrible in others. ^^;
- The bad:
- • RAILROADING.
- • Ludicrous "obstacles" (yes, with sarcasm quotes) that literally force you to go to where the game wants you to go.
- • No proper exploring, because the game won't let you go where you want to go until the GAME wants you to go there. >.> You're forcefed exposition with a snow-shovel.
- • "Ride Pokémon".
- • Hau (your "rival").
- • It feels less like a game for about the first five-sixths of it, and more like an interactive movie that lets you control the battles, walk from Point A to the Point B that's marked on your Map.
- • Very few Double Battles, even in places where it would've made sense for them to happen.
- • The Rotom-Dex that won't shut up.
- • In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, Rotom-Dex became EVEN CHATTIER.
- • Basically a 2-D-only game because you can't use the system's 3-D effects in battles anymore: only in certain places, e.g. caves, or where you can peek through a crack in a wall and snap photos of pokémon.
- • The Battle Tree (post-game). But that's only 'cause I suck at "competitive"-style battling (id est: being unable to use Items to keep my entire team alive throughout the whole battle). XD
- The good:
- • They changed up the formula a bit: instead of going to Gyms to get Badges, you now battle various people on the various islands (going on what's called "the Island Challenge") for differently-Typed Z-Crystals — which allow a pokémon that's holding one to perform a super-duper strong move, similar to the moves of Gigantamaxed pokémon (but without the transformation).
- • They also mixed things up by replacing HMs with "Ride Pokémon", which was pretty cool. The story (railroading aside) is good.
- • In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, they added a beach that has a mini-game called Mantine Surfing, which is super fun (after you get through the forced tutorial).
- • Totem Pokémon.
- • Alolan forms for Pokémon.
- • The graphics are pretty nice, overall.
- • The music.
- • After you beat the not-the-Elite Four, you actually get to be the Champion and battle fools who unwisely choose to challenge you! :O
- • The "Experience All" item still exists, and can be turned off.
