  1. Trying to track down a host
  2. Hi all, I live in the south of Spain and don't run a hosting business commercially but for the last 10 years I have had a reseller account and I host various blogs and websites of friends and family.

  15. Last year one of my friends, who had his website on my reseller server, died suddenly and without warning. Very sad. Unfortunately although his family and I thought he had his domain on auto renew(with godaddy) apparently it wasn't and the domain expired. Up to this point that is normal procedure....
  16.
  17. What happened after the domain expired is an issue as someone took control of the domain and also scraped all the content. The website is live and sitting on a server of someone who posts here on this forum on a regular basis. I have tried contacting the server company via the chat system on their website (never online just send a message) I have used their email address and all other emails I can find for the owner of the company but no reply at all.
  18.
  19. The whois data for the domain is hidden so I can't contact the person who has control of the domain... I followed the paper trail from Godaddy to a hosting company called Choopa and finally ended up at the server company Global Layer where the website is sitting doing nothing and broken...
  20.
  21. The family of my friend want me to continue maintaining the website in memory and I am quite happy to do that. We can buy a new domain and I have all copies of the site on my server from when I started hosting it back in 2012.
  22.
  23. I am at a bit of a loss what to do. I don't want to get into a war with anyone about it but it does seem that the content has been taken without permission. Obviously if I go ahead and relaunch the site with a different domain we have an issue of duplicate content. I'd even be willing to buy the domain back if that was an option.
  24.
  25. There are two other websites on this particular server and I have even tried contacting them to ask who is hosting their website. No luck there either. The site of my friend is irelandbyways.com. Its not monetised in any way. Just a hobby site.

  28. ==============
  29.
  30. There are 3 domains hosted on this server.
  31. The complete listing of these is below:
  32.
  33. Domain Last Resolved Date
  34. brighterpress.com 2019-04-11
  35. irelandbyways.com 2019-04-11
  36. sushikingusa.com 2019-04-11
  37.
  38. Anyway, thanks for your time and hopefully this post will come to the attention of the owner of Global Layer (member 24x7) and maybe they can help.
  39. If your domain name expired it should be in the redemption period, depending on your domain name host a fee might be worth the investment to get it back. Have you contacting the registrar?
  40. The redemption period has ended and the new owner of the domain is not visible in whois data... The owner of the server where the site is propagating from is not answering emails... I have no way to track down the current owner of the domain...

  51.
  52. As I said, the domain is not really the issue... The problem is all the site content was scraped when the domain expired... As far as I am aware a domain expiring does not give the right to the new domain owner to copy the contents of the website....
  53. By default, the domain expiration also erases the content. It seems that someone saw that the domain was about to expire and saved the webpages. Thus, if the contents are the same, you can try emailing the abuse email at the new registrar because of copyright. The registrar is required to provide the Whois info, by the way - not always publicly, but when contacted, they need to provide it. Have you checked if the registrar is ICANN accredited?

  55. SSL Included, 99% Uptime, WordPress One-click Installer, Weekly Backups, MySQL Databases, PHP7, Email Support With POP3 and IMAP, AWStats Reporting, SiteLock Lite, RAID 10, Domain Included With Paid Plans, and more!
  56. This could be a hard situation to deal with since whois information is protected, you will not be able to find the real new owner easily.
  57. File a complaint to ICCAN might help, but the possibility to win the domain back is rare.
  58.
  59. Buy a new domain name and build it with the old data, that's the easiest way to fix it but yea it's not perfect.

  64.
  65. I am sure that the company that runs the server knows who their hosting customer is that has those three sites on 134.19.188.43 so It would be a step towards a solution if they answered emails at Global Layer
  66. Hello. It looks like the person on this forum that I need to talk to is member 24x7group, the boss of Instant Dedicated and I suppose Global Layer. If anyone knows him I'd appreciate giving him a nudge. I don't seem to have the ability to send a private message to him via the forum.
  67. I don't seem to have the ability to send a private message to him via the forum.
  68. Why Can't I Use Private Messaging?
  69.
  70. You must have at least 10 meaningful and counted posts and be registered for seven days before you can use private messaging. After you have made 10 meaningful and counted posts and registered for seven days, you must wait up to 1 hour for a cron to run that will update your account status.

  77. If anyone knows him I'd appreciate giving him a nudge. I don't seem to have the ability to send a private message to him via the forum.
  78. In your next post, put the @ sign in front of their user name (if you know it), as long as it's one word (no spaces). That will "mention" him and possibly get him in this thread.

  80. That ip belongs to a reseller of us who is using it again for VPS related services.
  81. I like to know how someone can 'take over' the domain and also delete all content of the location where it was hosted (in your words 'scraped all the content')? How is that possible?
  82.
  83. I like to know what it is that you want from us, as I am also happy on finding a solution.

  85. Hi 24x7group thats fantastic you picked up this thread. Thankyou for replying.
  86.
  87. Please read my first post for main info on the situation.
  88.
  89. The domain expired and someone picked it up. Thats fine... But the content of the website should have been deleted from the account at godaddy when the domain expired... Whoever has this domain now also has the website content and that is not right at all... I can't contact them because they are not visible on whois data.
  90.
  91. What I would like for you to do is contact your reseller and explain that they have content on this domain that should not be there and get it taken down as they are infringing copyright. I would also be willing to negociate buying the domain from them
  92.
  93. They have not deleted the website content from my server. I have all that from when I hosted the site from 2012 to October 2018 when the domain expired. At that point someone took control of the domain. Changed the nameservers and pointed them to your server where they have copies of the website files.
  94.
  95. Once again thanks for getting back to me.
  96. I am happy to see the OP was able to contact the server provider. WHT is a great place!
  97. I'll refer our reseller to this thread and will ask him to contact you. PM me your details like e-mail for example.
  98. I'm interested to see how this all plays out.
  99. I sent you messages via your online chat system at your website with my details and a few emails. The email I sent you is as follows.
  100.
  101. "I am trying to find out what has happened to my website that is now hosted on your servers. It appears that the domain irelandbyways expired due to an error at Godaddy (It was set to auto renew) but whoever now has the domain has also taken all the website content and this is infringing the copyright of my content. We want to go ahead and relaunch the website but I need to get in touch with the person who has control of the domain to settle things. I could go ahead with a new domain and relaunch (as I do have copies of my site in local machine) but I would also be open to buy the domain back as the website is just sitting on your server doing nothing with the backend broken and whilst the site on your server remains active this raises issues with google indexing and duplicate content.
  102.
  103. In the meantime I would appreciate it if the site was taken down/disabled untill we can settle these issues."
  104.
  105. Thanks for reaching out to the reseller on your server.
  106. Haven't received an email yet.... Would like to get this issue solved soon. You should have my contact details from my messages to you via your chat system on your webpage at Global Label and the emails I sent to you early last week. Thanks
  107. Just checking this thread. I actually asked you to send me a PM with your (email) details for further contact but you never did.
  108. Please message me your e-mail so I can contact you for further handling this matter.

  114. If only he could.
  115. You're a moderator. You should know I don't have the ability to PM him, that option doesn't appear next to his username cause he has too little activity on the forum.
  116.
  117.
  118. wildside has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
  119.
  120. If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove wildside from the recipient list and send the message again.
  121. As I mentioned in previous posts I don't yet have the sufficient kudos on this forum to send private messages... You do though I would presume so you could PM me?
  122.
  123. That aside, as I also mentioned before that I have sent you emails and messages to your chat system on your website. I presume that you have received them?
  124.
  125. Have you contacted your reseller to ask him why he has the website content of a domain that expired and he bought when it expired?
  126.
  127. Wait I am on 10 posts... lets have a look now...
  128.
  129. The only extra kudos I get with 10 posts is @24x7group add you to my friend list which I have done..... Did you really not receive any of my messages on your chat system at globel layer or my emails? maybe they got into your spam folder as happens a lot with legitimate emails as we all know.
  130. You're a moderator. You should know I don't have the ability to PM him
  131. Just as he can't PM you (until about an hour from now). It's why I posted "If only he could."
  132. Move over, coffee, this is a job for alcohol!
  133. As a quick update....
  134.
  135. Today I bought a new domain in order to relaunch this website correctly over the coming days. As I hosted this site since 2012 I have all the files and database to do this.
  136.
  137. I must admit I have no idea how the person that bought the domain copied the website but I suppose there is a script out there that can do this. Obviously it didnt copy all the files correctly and the migration didnt work properly because the backend of the site (WP) has a 404 error and th template is all screwed up.. Threre are also missing articles and images here and there.
  138.
  139. I am also a little concerned that I am having to do this on an open forum after repeated emails (with no reply) to the company that owns the server where the website in question is sitting.
  140. And @24x7group I just left another message on your offline chat system at global label.... Hope you get it as it contains my email and you can get back to me.
