  1. Schweitzer was a bit of an outcast growing up. He always found himself unable to cope in social situations during his early childhood. Though his family was well-to-do it just didn't seem to be enough for poor little Schweitzer. All he wanted to do during his younger years was fit in with his peers.
  2.
  3. After years of trying to fit in and being rejected he gave up on trying to socialize with his peers. Instead he began to focus more on helping out in his father's shop. His father was well-known within the Izzet League, a guild charged with attending to Ravnican civic works such as water supply systems, sewers, heating systems, roadways, etc. His father saw an opportunity to supply parts, tools, and equipment to a litany of laboratories run by the Izzet League.
  4.
  5. As Schweitzer got older he became fascinated with tinkering and learning about how things worked and what things he could create. In time his father would pass on and Schweitzer took over the family business working directly for the Izzet League laboratories, keeping them stocked with heating coils, lightning rods, scales, test tubes, wiring kits, you name it.
  6.
  7. Schweitzer would spend the next 20 years in that shop. Because he worked closely with all the major laboratories within the league he was exposed to a vast variety of scientific fields and discovery. He got to work with Pyrology honing the art of manipulating fire and controlling the power of explosions. He studied with experts of storms and electricity trying to control the weather and channel electrical power. Schweitzer was even able to study alongside Continuists and Arcane Geometrists learning what they knew about temporal manipulation and counter-magic. He also got to work with metals of all kinds, including the magical metal Mizzium, one of the most durable alloys ever created.
  8.
  9. Schweitzer became somewhat of a jack of all trades. He may not have been an expert in any one field, but having been exposed to a large portion of all the major fields of study within the Izzet League he was granted a unique perspective on the sciences. He began to realize just what kind of power one could wield with a proper understanding of them.
  10.
  11. Growing up Schweitzer would often come home crying and feeling like a failure after trying unsuccessfully to fit in with other gnomes of his age. His father would often comfort him, telling him that everything will be okay and that one day he would tell Schweitzer of his true purpose that he was meant to fulfill. This always cheered young Schweitzer up thinking that he was destined for something great, but as he got older he realized that his father merely told him that to help keep his spirits up.
  12.
  13. That is until one fateful day when Schweitzer stumbled upon his father's secret. While experimenting with unstable substances Schweitzer failed to measure the right ratios of two vials and the result was an explosion that nearly destroyed half the shop, incinerating swaths of valuable inventory. But more than that it also revealed a passage Schweitzer had never seen before. A hidden entrance into a basement he didn't know existed beneath the shop.
  14.
  15. As Schweitzer ventured into the newly discovered basement he was unprepared for what he would find. There were all sorts of odd inventions and parts spread all over various counter-tops. Among the debris were random diagrams and blueprints strewn about. Nothing in this "secret lab" seemed to be very organized except for one pristine area containing some kind of prototype device and a bunch of careful organized papers and books.
  16.
  17. Page after page of descriptions and experiments. It seemed his father had made a huge discovery realizing that it might be possible to tap into some kind of invisible yet limitless source of energy. He called it "vacuum energy". Schweitzer would spend the next six months both repairing the shop and studying his father's research. His father posited that vacuum energy or “zero point energy” might be the underpinning of all magical energy and effects in the known universe.
  18.
  19. Armed with this new understanding of science and reality Schweitzer began to see his father's vision. He realized if he could harness this energy, he could learn the kind of power previously known only to the likes of sorcerers and wizards. He reasoned that he and his father might be the only creatures in existence to discover the scientific underpinnings of all magical power. Magic wielders of all types may know HOW to manipulate and control magical power, but only Schweitzer now knew where that power comes from at its source.
  20.
  21. Filled with renewed energy and motivation Schweitzer set out to harness this zero point energy. After countless hours of study and tinkering he finally managed to finish his father’s prototype for a “Zero Point Module” or ZPM. As soon as he locked the final component in place the device began to glow and hum. The first device created to harness zero point energy directly.
  22.
  23. Schweitzer wasted no time and immediately got to work on a Mizzium-lined vest that would be capable of housing the ZPM. He outfitted the vest with various other inventions he was able to derive from his father's research. Any advantageous device he could create that was portable enough, he would attach it to his new vest. The ZPM itself consists of three circular pads with lights on their faces indicating the charge level. Schweitzer has taken the liberty of sewing them right into the lower back portion of his power vest. The ZPM is capable of almost limitless amounts of ambient energy, but more powerful bursts of energy will drain one or more of the three charges the ZPM is capable of storing. Some of Schweitzer's more powerful inventions will consume these charges and the ZPM will require a period of time to recharge itself to full. Other devices are capable of running purely off the continuous ambient energy flowing from the ZPM.
  24.
  25. Schweitzer wired in a glove capable of storing and then discharging powerful bursts of energy into any weapon he might be wielding, causing it to emanate with radiant energy for a short time. The glove capacitor stores up ZPM ambient energy over time and then releases all of it over the course of about a minute, temporarily imbuing a melee weapon with radiant energy.
  26.
  27. Also wired to Schweitzer's power vest is a small phase discriminator that keeps him immune to all disease. It keeps his body in a constant out-of-phase state that prevents his body from contracting diseases of almost any kind. This discriminator runs purely off the ambient ZPM energy and is always active.
  28.
  29. Schweitzer came up with another invention, the Cerebral Transmitter helmet. Similar to the capacitor glove this helmet stores ZPM ambient energy over time and then utilizes it all at once to activate a powerful transmitter that allows Schweitzer to temporarily confuse nearby fiends and undead into attacking their own kind for a time.
  30.
  31. The last thing wired directly to Schweitzer's power vest is a Quintessential Oil Dispenser hanging from his left hip. This is a Mizzium alloy container filled with vials of alchemical oils of Schweitzer's own invention. They are capable of healing allies or curing afflictions. Indicator lights on the side indicate which vials within the container are selected. Once the right mixture of substances is selected one need only press down on the pump head to receive a small splash of Quintessential Oil concoction which can then be quickly applied to anyone in need. Vial selection is powered by voice commands. The user may simply speak the desired combination of oils and the indicator lights will adjust accordingly as well as a confirmation voice that will emanate from the device.
  32.
  33. Schweitzer also has a Sonic Tricorder device. This device is handheld and not wired directly to the power vest. It is a small foldable computing device that hangs from his right hip. The Sonic Tricorder is capable of detecting anything affected by the hallow spell as well as the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 ft and not completely behind cover. The portable power cell for this device is nowhere near as sophisticated as the ZPM and the ZPM is at capacity for the devices it can power so the Sonic Tricorder is capable of three separate uses before it will need to recharge.
  34.
  35. Utilizing these inventions Schweitzer intends to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming something more than what he was. He wants to make friends and influence people by impressing them with his technological prowess. By putting an end to evil-doers across his realm he will surely attract the adoration of the populace. He will finally have the attention and adoration he has always deserved from his peers.
