BACKGROUND : Though born in Miaoli, Jiao's mother moved her to Los Angeles when she was only 1. She was raised by her single mother, since her father had left before she was born. Her mother was fine, raised her well, but didn't want her to learn Mandarin for reasons she never found out. Halfway through high school in LA, she moved again with her mother to Korea. She finished high school there all while learning korean and her mother opened a restaurant.
When she went to college, she began learning Mandarin, even though she was told not to. You can't stop someone from learning the language of the country they most identify with. She closed herself off in college, since it made it easier to just go through. She found herself being pushed aside by people for reasons she didn't know, until she realized it was just this group of boys. She hated them. Not in a direct way like the other boys likely did (let's face it, they did steal all the girls) but because they made people loud and annoying. She made it a point to avoid them most.

PERSONALITY: Jian is like a wall. She is not quick to trust people and tends to avoid all human interaction. When interaction does happen, she's closed off and sarcastic. She has issues with emotions, meaning that she doesn't really show any on her face. When she is annoyed, she will flat out tell you, among other things. While Jiao calls in brutal honesty, others can just call it brutal. She hates how some people are automatically popular because of their genes. She won't deny that they are attractive, honestly, but she in no way likes them.
She spends a lot of her time in secluded places like the library or empty classrooms. She also spends quite a bit of time on the computer, which she seems to really "get along with". If she were in a gang, she would certainly be the hacker. She could hack into school files if she wanted to but doesn't have much interest in other people.
Jian gets stressed out a lot. She's really hard on herself and doesn't really have anyone to comfort her.

HIS PERSONALITY:
Yuta has always been considered very good-looking. He never really had much interest in girls though he likes that they throw themselves at him. He's definitely cocky which is likely why he is interested in the only girl who lowers his self-esteem.

HOW YOU ACT AROUND HIM:
Beginning: Jian's method usually works, until she notices
Middle: After a while, she begins growing sort of fond of him but doesn't show it in any way. She figures that he's the type of person to gain her trust then betray her.
The other girls notice how he talks to her a lot. They get upset and corner her once. Instead of being beaten up and saved by Yuta, she sort of beats the girls up ("oops") and doesn't mention it to anyone.
End: She finally lets herself open up and finds that she likes his company. She doesn't hate his friends much, but they certainly annoy her. She doesn't realize she grew feelings for him until (see end of HOW HE ACTS AROUND YOU).
HOW HE ACTS AROUND YOU:
Beginning: He notices that there is someone off to the side, not freaking out about something he does. He sort of admires her "self-control". During one class, he sits directly next to her and tries to talk. She ignores him until finally lifting her head and giving a rude and sarcastic comment, which only starts his crush.
Middle: He starts bugging her and following her around, sitting next to her like they are best friends. She always manages to be sarcastic and sometimes damage his ego. He doesn't get discouraged at all and gets super happy when she finally talks to him a bit more.
End: She gets closer to him and less closed off, though she still hates his friends. (some time later) Jian makes the first move regarding them kissing. Rather than most girls in books who will get worried, apologize, and run off, she gives him a "fight me" sort of smug look. Which is pretty much why he liked her in the first place.

RELATIONSHIP TRIVIA:
