  10. they are saying mojang has a general lack of knowledge of how servers work
  11. and setting up changes without fully understanding
  12. trying to make a one size fit all system
  13. The other importna thing to bear in mind this is all happening in mc as a whole, java side
  14. there is a general decline in java side
  15. it's just gotten smaller
  16. it's easy to say we're not alone
  17. we have lots of diff networks contact us
  18. lots of drama with blacklisting
  19. there's lots of rapid eula changes every 3 -4 weeks
  20. get another email from mojang
  21. we're not protected from eula by being biggest server
  22. we just don't talk about it very much
  23. we call it the hypixel defense
  24. they do a completely different implementation
  25. there's a server that did voting rewards because we did erwards
  26. well hypixel is doing rewards right? so this server started a sale to vote more
  27. and paid rewards for voting
  28. so they put these outrages voting rewards
  29. talking like 1million coins they vote
  30. and buy more tokens they vote
  31. this is where the system is broken
  32. rather than dealing with this one person screwing up
  33. mojang says hey nobody can vote
  34. instead of dealing with 1 person they deal with everyone
  35. including those doing things right
  36. and this is one of the most worrying things they said, like if we give you a booster on facebook, it's determined paying with time
  37. they are saying if you are paying with time you can't reward the user with that
  38. honest, it's not great
  39. and the currency situation
  40. and we don't want to talk about horses but
  41. the second example is um
  42. thye now no longer allow you to use a custom currency
  43. like hypixel credits
  44. credits and stuff like that so
  45. the reason credits added is for ppl to convert money to custom currency
  46. and they only work on costmetics
  47. with credits you could get beautiful awards asame as others
  48. but now they say not allowed
  49. 'alright it's okay to get rid of credits and we were already thinking to get rid because so many currencies already
  50. but it's fine
  51. say, it just shows how wrong the EULA is going
  52. instead of helping us
  53. you know what they say
  54. but this is minecraft, you can't add a new horse, you can't add another particle trail you just can't do it
  55. taths'why we made companions
  56. hey you can sell cosmetics but here's 0 tools to do it
  57. it's the standard, in Clash Royale, games like TF2, the rate of playing players is high, and the reason we need to keep it up is to pay the bills
  58. why is mc so expensive
  59. it was not designed to be on this scale and desont' work on the cloud
  60. PokeGo is on the cloud so it scales infinitely
  61. but MC doesn't
  62. you need Bungee servers etc.

  64. Mc is just not made for that

  66. it means we're stuck inside, we have to buy contracted hosting for 1 or 2 years
  67. were in a fragile position for finances
  68. and we have to deal with EULA
  69. some months we don't make money
  70. and other times we just have to make up for it

  72. people going back to school and that sutff
  73. basically the EULA is fine but it needs refinement
  74. it needs more options for us to survive
  75. if a month with no money, that means EULA is doing it
  76. a lot of time spent doing cosmetics instead of games and minigames andupdate
  77. if there was no EULA skyclash would already be out
  78. and updates to all the games
  79. but now we need to put time on cosmetics to pay the builds
  80. some of the devs have faimlies and kids and we have to make sure they are ok
  81. if we keep getting bashed on the head
  82. everything is stable everything is fine
  83. then one little server breaks something then all the networks get an email and it's a broken process
  84. they don't understand the intricacies of how servers work
  85. maybe later this year, after minecon, hopefully they change their approach
  86. they should sit down and talk with up to make it fair for the user
  87. EULA is great on paper it forces owners to make money correctly etc.
  88. but there needs to be a feedback process
  89. there is no official feedback process
  90. funny story time
  91. We got an email four months ago
  92. the email said, not going to say who but Mojang enforcement team, it said we have to reduce the speed of horses
  93. they asked us to reduce horse speed in lobby
  94. they asked to make pets not fly in lobby because they gave transporation advantages
  95. and that sort of stuff is like EHHH
  96. it shows the disconnection between EULA and servers
  97. if they talked to us and explained that lobbies transporation is cosmetic
  98. we explained it but they still insisted on change
  99. this is a bad decision and you're not taking feedback
  100. as a last note on EULA topic, important to remember Mojang is trying to do best on Users but there's really horrible scumbag networks out there selling ritual drugs and owners talking about stuff they shouldn't say
  101. this is one of treasons EULA happened
  102. there's tons with less than 1000 users that are great
  103. but EULA prevents them scaling
  104. how do u survive with 35+k players online
  105. we got lucky some ways
  106. we were first to adapt to EULA
  107. honest truth if a server came along, I don't think they could grow to 5000 player now
  108. you can't even sell sponsorships anymore
  109. brands can't do that anymore
  110. it comes down to people doing stupid stuff screwing everyone else over
  111. instead of dealing with idiots they deal with everyone
  112. not a good scenario should change

  115. **TOPIC 2: THE HYPIXEL GAME**

  118. One thing about EULA it proves that we don't control the game
  119. don't control income or what we're doing
  120. to that extent for the last year and a half
  121. I'd say for the last year and half we've been working designing and preparing and working on our own game
  122. it's quite an ambitious process
  123. at this point it works
  124. it's impressive and we've shown it to some people and everyone is on board and it makes sense for us
  125. like why would we do a game
  126. because we have a lot of creative people
  127. and their creativity is limited by mc
  128. with our own game we can control EVERYTHING
  129. engine client UI etc.
  130. well it's important to realize that the days of Java are numbered
  131. and every other day we get more networks saying what's going on what are we looking towards
  132. without revealing to much it's not just the game for us, it's for all the others too
  133. it's a game that all the networks may be interested in
  134. that various different people would be interested in
  135. to get to that point, the way we built our game was with that in mind
  136. other games are like don't touch our game etc.
  137. but for us it's a diff approach
  138. other companies want 100% control
  139. but we want to empower the community
  140. say we have 20 devs on our comunity
  141. but we release this game with all the tools
  142. we don't have 50 devs we have 50000 devs
  143. if we have this big complex thing that isn't playable then if someone makes a mod no one is playing
  144. this isn't a small budget game
  145. it's a large budget game I've been saving up for for years
  146. hypixel must be rich
  147. but i'm trailing on my money for this project
  148. it's an honor to work on this project, and 25 ppl working full time
  149. and we have designers, game designers, artists, full time music guy, animator
  150. crazy stuff
  151. we have full time people working on this
  152. even blizzard when they make new games, 50 ppl on new games, with us with 25 ppl on the game hopefully you guys will see the quality

  177. **TOPIC 4: EU NETWORK AND TRANSFER PACKET**

  183. so it's um
  184. network has a lot of challenges
  185. before we can make it happen
  186. MC doesn't owkr on Cloud system
  187. to go on an EU netrowkr
  188. it requireds more money and investment
  189. and contracted servers
  190. if we order 30 servs
  191. first of all
  192. it creates an issue if we invest money we get locked for 1 or 2 years
  193. and EU servs more expensive than US
  194. and it needs to work with data base in US
  195. it's important to understand, other servers have EU networks but that's crap
  196. it doesn't work
  197. the experience is garbage
  198. you split your community in half
  199. you think and plan it but it just doesn't work
  200. one community eats up the other
  201. but if you look at EU mineplex
  202. it's pretty much dead
  203. US is more people
  204. people just don't want to connect to another server
  205. it's unplayable too little people
  206. it's like the more games you have
  207. it'sharder to get these games going
  208. with 45+ games at low peak
  209. it's hard for players to start playing
  210. if we split the community even more
  211. it's bad
  212. our plan would be first
  213. we need to transfer back in and we need Mojang's help
  214. moving people between IPs
  215. in mc we have to use Bungees
  216. we have to move people from one bungee to another
  217. and this needs a transfer packet
  218. with this at low peak, when no games starting
  219. just dump players to the other US server
  220. you can move people around
  221. that means scales
  222. at night not many going around
  223. if there was a transfer packet
  224. it would let us switch IP addresses
  225. which you can do inside the same data center
  226. but with this we could have Chinese, Japanese, brazil, servers etc. whatever it would work
  227. we could have shared lobbies if we had transfer packet
  228. any countries would be in the lobby
  229. but joining game you go to one server
  230. the lobbies would stay in the US as who cares about where lobby is though
  231. game servers will be wherever we would want
  232. if we ever get transfer packet, interesting thing is they didn't say no...
  233. if they can't do it we can! haha
  234. they mentioned security concerns but there really is no concern
  235. onfe you're connected to our network we could show you anything anyway
  236. it doesn't matter what network chooses to show you
  237. if we could work with them Mojang network issues would be gone

  257. older game updates - make the established community happy

  262. blitz got updates last year(?)
  263. every so often iusers go up 10-15% then a few days later it goes back down
  264. updates have never invigorated the game but one exception is UHC
  265. so much time involved it turned into a new game
  266. we need to do more bold moves for updates
  267. lets think about say uhhh
  268. mega walls right
  269. a season system where all the kids there would be like season 1 for mega walls
  270. everyone is lvl 0
  271. every season everything resets
  272. that would be a BOLD move

  274. but that's kind of updates I think we should do
  275. older games use old code and it's a pain to fix
  276. sometimes I would rather just have a new game
  277. why spend one month on paintball updatse

  282. with Warlords we pushed the limit

  284. resource packs are very badly optimized
  285. every mc update breaks resource pack
  286. they change file structure in 1.11
  287. so you can't use capital letters
  288. so they took 30 hours of work to fix all the names
  289. this was just super stupid
  290. experience
  291. the way mc is just win10 edition is great, but Java version is crap at rendering 3d
  292. in WL low polygons makes FPS go down 40%
  293. simple polygon sort in code is just Not good
  294. we're gonna do if we do more rp games, there'll be less crazy stuff
  295. blocking dead or pixel painters was simple
  296. it was minimal to make game work
  297. now we have new maps and stuff

  337. we're not happy with currently MVP+ gets etc.
  338. everything has gotten worse because EULA

  340. mojang made us take away a ton of other stuff
  341. it's important to make things worth it
  342. some say ranks have no value
  343. but it's hard to make them valuable
  344. one of the ideas I had

  347. we found a way to make MVP+ choose the map to play
  348. the reason it's limited, on a technical level, if everyone picked a map
  349. it would be crazy
  350. limiting to MVP+ makes them better
  351. more valueable
  352. our most popular skywars game.. the game is too non-donor friendly
  353. it doubled our costs
  354. because so many games
  355. if you noticed in skywards, starts with 14 players
  356. ends with 2
  357. we're fine but the game itself
  358. there's no cosmetics
  359. there's nothing for ranks
  360. we want to make current ranks have more value
  361. so we're gonna give ranks map choosing etc.
  362. but we're not going to go too ham on it
  363. skywars is a pretty pure game
  364. we try and approach it by having one exclusive thing for VIP, VIP+, MVP etc.

  409. it's important for us to make it more appealing

  416. we should talk about guild fortreses
  417. they think about updates, fortress, guild futures
  418. at first we wanted to add a guild update to add more features

  420. the guild fortresses need to happen
  421. so we're working on how to introduce it
  422. and how to attach it to a gamemode
  423. need to make it a thing
  424. this gamemode/guild fortress is only going to be for guilds
  425. gonna add perks to guilds
  426. world of Warcraft guild system with bonuses for guilds was amazing
  427. the coins aren't used very much for guild yet
  428. with update they will be used
  429. imagine hey everyone gets 10% more coins beause guild
  430. we would have a bonus for 10% more coins in skywars for guild to buy

  452. a floating island and a bridge 10v10 15v15 guild
