  1. All,

  3. I am working to write language to update the ASPRS LAS specification to move from using GeoTIFF keys as the only identifier of spatial reference information to the use of WKT in addition to GeoTIFF keys. One of the challenges of writing this language is that simply saying "Use OGC WKT" is not sufficient to promote interoperability between softwares expecting to utilize SRS information in LAS. The question is also about using *who's flavor* WKT. There seems to be many ways to say the same thing in the nodes of the WKT document. A quick list might include:
  4.
  5. * ESRI
  6. * GDAL/OGR/OSR
  7. * GeoTools
  8. * Oracle 9
  9. * Oracle 10
  10.
  11. So, assuming your writing language to inform tomorrow's software developers about what to use, what would you tell them with regard to dialect?
