My thoughts on Joshu Higashikata


When I first saw Joshu, I was like "oh this guy's gonna be the foil to Josuke" and I was kinda right. He's not totally the opposite of Josuke but he's definitely not like him. I immediately put Joshu in the corner saying "this guy is a total snob! He's rude, selfish, greedy, and kinda perverted too!" But after reading Milagro Man it made me rethink some things about his character and his intentions and ambitions.

I've been reading Araki book on Manga and ever since Part 7 I've been applying what he's said in his book to JoJo's. Taking a look at Joshu we have a insecure teenager who has a crush on a girl and is about to make something happen when suddenly this naked guy appears from the ground and take his girl away from him. On top of that he's taken into his home, takes your room, gains the favor of your father, and his younger sister is desperately in love with him. I put myself in his shoes and it made me realize that really sucks for him. And with Milagro Man I think it was a chapter that finally let Joshu loose and be himself. Away from the family and, especially, from Josuke.

The summoning of his stand Nut King Cole is an obvious sign of his growth and I can imagine it'll get better as the story progresses. Out of all of the cast in JoJolion, I am most excited to see what is to come for Joshu. Honestly I think he's got a good heart. He wants what's best for his family and he'll go to irrational strides it seems to maintain that. And with that, he's still trying to find self worth and identity. So please, if your shunning Joshu off like I did, just give him a chance. I think there's a lot in store for him.

Nut King Call is a great stand. It's potential is great because we've rarely seen him use it. I love the design. It's nuts and bolts motif is a nice touch and I think the lanky scrawny appearance is fitting for Joshu's character. I'm not sure how it's ability relates to his ambitions but I guess we'll have to see
